Officiating!

Post by clevelandbrowns#1 »

I have several of my friends who are darn good officials that are ready to give it all up. The negativity and the blame that we all receive is ridiculous. It’s 90% the officials fault for the lack of ability, lack of being able to dribble, lack of scoring, lack of playing defense, lack of blocking out, etc…. We have less than a second on every infraction that we see to make the call. Do we all miss calls? Yes. Do we get most correct? Yes. Are we there to favor, cheat for one team or another? No. We are there to manage and enforce rules that we are given. Do we get punished for not applying rules? Yes we do. We have tournament games taken from us if we mess up. We are evaluated by coaches, AD’s, other officials, assignors, southeast district board members and state board members. Quit blaming officials for the inefficiencies of the players who are trying to play the game.
Officiating the game of basketball is about being at the right angle, being at the right spot, trusting your partners, calling in your area, knowing the rules and when to punish for breaking a rule. Is there contact in the game? Yes. Do we punish for every contact that happens? No. We are supposed to call a violation/foul if an advantage is gained by either the offense or defense by breaking a rule. We try so hard to be consistent on both ends of the floor. If it was so easy to do, you all would be there to help us call your kids/grandkids games. So many of you are destroying the game and hurting your kids for taking up for there deficiencies. Let them suffer for the consequences they have brought onto themselves.

The expectation for perfection needs to go away.

I always try to remind parents and coaches that they should expect the level of officiating to match their level of competition. You will not get NBA referees for a girls JV basketball game— sorry. The officials experienced and good enough move up to the next level, are at the next level.

Mistakes are made by officials in every sport, at every level. NBA, Premier League and NFL officials are lambasted on a weekly basis by fans, coaches, media and players... and those are the best officials in the world. You can't hold the referee on your daughter's JV basketball game to the same standard you hold an NBA official, unless I can expect to see your 15-year-old daughter throw down an above-the-rim tomahawk like LeBron.

Maybe it’s time for you to quit, if you’re 2 of the 3 that did the Minford, Burg girls game.

The games wasn't called bad you minford parents like to cry because a girl got ejected or they pushed a kid around grow up its basketball its gonna happen. Also the refs on the game are very fine refs and just because jim vastine gives them a thumb up because they did something correct does not mean there cheating STOP BEING SOFT.

Does he really think if he keeps posting these same complaints about fans every year and exposing just how soft and sensitive refs are these days it’s going to change anything? Or is he just wanting attention and a pat on the back? If he’s really as soft as his post makes him look then I’d say it IS time for him to just quit.

It is amazing how quick OHSAA overturned that ejection call. Must’ve been from those fine refs amazingly called game. 😂
