As for kids leaving, that’s not new. I’ve said this over and over when the transfer debate comes up. Burg has always lost more than they have gained in transfers. Happens not only in football but other sports. Burg’s simply not for everyone.
Kids that played significant minutes/Started last year left for Green???
Another left for Portsmouth? A handful has enrolled at Valley?
Burg fans talking like 6-4 could be the ceiling, And you think this is normal for Wheelersburg?
The biggest issue I hear is the lack of College recruiting exposure the program provides. Parents are starting to see it. There’s not been much separation on field between Ironton athletes and Wheelersburg last 5 years but Ironton kids are getting the opportunity at much more accelerated pace. Wheelersburg Softball has figured it out and is doing what Ironton does in football.
That’s not normal.

Coldwater has had a 5 or so in last 15 years. Marion Local has had 3-4 play D1. One started at ND a few years back. Minster had a kid at UK and one at Tennessee. St. Henry has sent many kids D1. The MAC also produces a lot of D1 Baseball kids. Kirtland has had 2-3 play major college football. One at Pittsburgh and one at Kent State since The Kirtland dominance has started. Playing D1 has A LOT to do with measurables. Ex. Height, Weight, Speed, Vertical. All the schools above have great athletes but many are just too small to play at that level or just lack one of those traits. I’ve watched the Ironton Vs Wheelersburg game last couple years and there wasn’t a big gap in talent. Agree the difference is ironton will go get players where they are very weak and they have that one player who is obviously the best on the field like a terry or carico who can make the plays you need in close games. 2017 Wheelersburg? All that talent and not one kid played D1. The LB on that team. Can’t remember his name but looked 6’2 220. Maybe not the fastest kid but great instincts and could thump. Bluntly speaking, if anyone other than Rucker seeing regular snaps at QB for Burg this season, 5-5 is squarely on the table.
yabba: heard there was a lot more to the Sanderlin transfer than just sports. As RBH said, Burg is a tight-knit community and not for everyone. Ironton is a much more transfer-friendly environment for outsiders.*

That’s true about AAU ball as it was last year as well.XandOs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:18 amWas told the same thing from a realistic burg fan. They said they are having problems with some of the kids in the program not showing up to anything because of Basketball/Baseball obligations this summer. Was told coaching staff is becoming frustrated with the situation. The burg fan said the starting QB would likely be the Freshman QB who started JV last year.yabbadabbadoo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 7:10 am
I\d heard that too. Reliable source had told me that Rucker really doesn't want to be QB and really wants to focus on basketball.
Maybe he was told he is a D1 prospect like Ater told Kenny Sanderlin a few years back.
Some asst coaches think the sophomore could replace Rucker but that’s wishful thinking given Rucker’s experience.

Kids leaving for other schools. Kids wanting to leave, Kids not playing, rumors of a lack of control of the program, QB battle brewing. Lack of kids getting looks from college programs. Low participation #s in weight room due to kids specializing. Just the tip of the iceberg
All of these have been floating around for several months.

Lack of college recruiting… name a time in the past 50 years when Burg had loads of D1 athletes. Maybe the late 1980’s? Burg kids don’t get a great deal of football recruitment. Maybe to smaller schools, but that’s about it.
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Who are the five from Coldwater that went D1? As for the ML kid, he never started at ND even though he was on arguably the best ML team (and best small school team in Ohio) of all time. Now the OL from Minford started at Notre Dame!XandOs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:56 amColdwater has had a 5 or so in last 15 years. Marion Local has had 3-4 play D1. Kirtland sent one kid to Kent State; don’t know of any to Pittsburgh; and this over 15+ years? In the past 10+ years, Kirtland and the MAC combined have probably sent 1-2 players to a power 5 college program. None have ever started during that time frame. If you go back far enough, I’m sure you’ll find a player here and there, but since ML and Coldwater started their dominance, few have went major college football.
Finally, if you couldn’t see the physical difference between 2022 Ironton and Burg, you need glasses!

As for Ironton players, they have the physical traits to be successful but just not prepared to compete at the next level by their coaches. Carrico is a prime example. Kid is a stud, but a Ironton didn’t do him any favors. He would have been much better off transferring to a D1 school in Ohio or going IMG. He could have focused on just playing linebacker while competing against better competition. Would have prepared him for OSU.

Don’t you claim to live in The Natti. I would bet my last dollar you don’t even know Pendleton. Jealousy tends to come in many forms. Funny you sit and talk about a guy who has owned the program you root for. I’ve also heard from people who’s went through his program that it was the toughest thing they’ve ever done. They compare it to military boot camp . I also bet if you talk to Carrico personally. He would tell you he owes a lot of his success to Coach Pendleton.RBH23 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 10:51 amDon’t know the other coaches, but Pendleton would be a disaster.XandOs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 10:43 amLet’s just say hypothetically. Masters isn’t an example I’d be using lol. He was a product of the west side that moved to Burg, while living in Franklin Furnace. So Burg got him from West, he should’ve been at Green, then Ironton got him when he couldn’t cut it at Burg as QB still while he should’ve technically been at Green. But that’s what renting a fake apartment gets you in Ironton. Lol
