Just announced: Paden City (WV) High to close
Due to the school being an EPA Superfund site, which is English means health hazards.
Students probably go to either Magnolia or Tyler Consolidated since Paden City is located in both Wetzel and Tyler counties.

Wow, sad for their students. Paden City always turned out to support their students regardless of the school activity.

Well at least Belpre can’t lose to them this year.

Didn't Paden City go like 8-2 last year and missed the WV playoffs cause their schedule was so weak?
Re: Just announced: Paden City (WV) High to close
Sounds like the EPA came out and said the school site is actually safe and there are no health risks?
Really hate to see this. Assuming this decisions stands, add Paden City to the long list of West Virginia communities that have lost their schools and with them their identity.

Yes and had they snuck in that first round game likely wouldn't have been pretty. Schools like PC will benefit from the new four class format in WV though.Down in the valley wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 6:01 pm Didn't Paden City go like 8-2 last year and missed the WV playoffs cause their schedule was so weak?

Is there a date when PCHS has an appeal hearing or is it past that? Could it remain open?

According to this article, it is a temporary closing for the upcoming school year only. Students will go to Magnolia.

Doesn't that superintendent live in another county?
PC returns 4 of 5 linemen, the fastest back in the county in Neff, plus a transfer from Martins Ferry.
They excelled in a 7-on-7 at W&J (pa) just recently. Can't believe PC community will not fight this to the bitter end.

I heard at Par-Mar yesterday the Wildcats are practicing together. And also Magnolia's school building isn't any safer to use than PCHS.
This superintendent doesn't know the fight she's in for with those Paden City people.

Where are the teachers at PCHS working this fall? Has to be rough for them as well.

The Super and BOE are feeling the pressure from the community. Check out story on WTAP-TV. Sorry don't have a link but it is on their website.

Will be following this fight. The 'City' people won't let it happen if I know those old Wildcats like I do.

They are reopening. Judge ruled in school's favor. Good for them.

So the latest - the Superintendent closed the football field, saying its "dangerous" and that teams scheduled to play there should either plan for the game to be at their home field or a neutral field. This is starting to sound personal on her end?
Re: Just announced: Paden City (WV) High to close
Yes it does. Especially making this decision so close to the season starting when the judge ruled a month ago to keep the school open.Down in the valley wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 10:33 am So the latest - the Superintendent closed the football field, saying its "dangerous" and that teams scheduled to play there should either plan for the game to be at their home field or a neutral field. How can a grass field be dangerous? Unless they are referring to the bleachers. But then you can just block them off and have people stand or bring chairs to watch the game. Also didn’t know a school superintendent was a certified building inspector. Lol. I would gather some people together to pay for an independent inspection and file an injunction if the field/bleachers were found to be safe. Definitely sounds personal by the superintendent.

Re: Just announced: Paden City (WV) High to close
And didn’t the EPA say the school building was safe. I would think they would check the surrounding grounds including the football field. I would also think the team has already been practicing on that same “dangerous” field. Just sounds fishy to me.
