Why can't burgs HC figure out how to beat Ironton, Jackson and Prep? Is it coaching that is lacking or is it talent?
With regards to Ironton, they have done a fantastic job bringing in additional talent. Without said talent, the results would be substantially different.
Who cares. Thats called using all tools available. Why aren't all the other schools doing the same? Guess they are ok with mediocrity .
I think Pendleton is smart for doing this. Have said that many times.

Only mentioned it to answer the question as to why Pendleton is 4-2 against Burg.

I'm just wondering why Woodard cant get past Ironton, Jackson and Prep. The combined W/L vs the 3 over the last few years is abysmal. Kinda seems like he is surviving off the fumes of 2017 now.

Better the fumes of 2017 than the fumes of 1989.

I still think Burg defense going to struggle early in season against a tough non-conference schedule. A lot of new faces on that side of the ball. Pressure will be on Rucker and the offense to put up points in shootouts starting Week 1*

If you look at the last 4-5 yrs it would suggest burg isn’t winning any shootouts against good football teams. O has been very avg post holden and worse than that against the big 3. Could be time to change the O totally if they want to compete against the big dogs. If they are content beating up on the soc, winning a playoff game or 2 and losing to ironton, Jackson, prep every yr then by all means stick with what your doing
Fielding avg teams since 2019

Does Wheelersburg play in any underwear football tournaments over the summer?

I don't see Burg going worse than 7-3 maybe even 8-2 if they get the offense going early. They generally improve as the year goes on a tough early schedule will prepare them for the SOC and a playoff run

Agree.

The early schedule will definitely be tough. Ironton is loaded, Jackson is bringing back a lot, and HP should be good again this year.

Also, just read McNich has moved up to D3 and is considered a dark-horse win the regional title. However, some of the top D3 teams in that region did move up to D2, hence why they might have a chance.

McNich will have the skill players to put up points. Will come down to their line play which Burg has exploited the past two years.

McNicholas has a huge game week 1 against Stuebenville that will be a good barometer as Steubenville nearly made it to Canton last year

Some burg fans have sorta indicated they want qb1 to be dual threat. Lets hope he is in the weight room cause he did NOT look strong or durable. And im not sold on his arm at all. Ironton has two QBs who are better to utilize. Burgs qb1 would be 3rd string at Ironton.

Burgs QB 1 was a sophomore last year. A lot can change physically with these kids from sophomore to junior year.

Irontons young QB Edwards is younger and already more dynamic. Burg is in for a tough season imo.

If so, why wasn’t he starting last year ahead of Thacker, the kid who threw for less than 30 yards against Burg? Let me repeat: less than 30 yards passing against Burg! If Edwards is so great now, surely he was better than 30 yards passing a year ago.

Maybe want to wait until he actually starts at QB in a varsity game before making any grandiose claims. The game is a lot different in front of a crowd with a defense coming at you.

Don’t like to get hit when he was younger

Pendletons Tigers have been to more title games in 7 seasons as Irontons HC than Burg has been to in program history. Lmao.

.nah he is better. Irontons qb1 and 1b or 2 are both better. Its not close. That burg qb1 isnt sure of himself. Isnt overtly athletic and his arm is so so. He isnt bad or awful by any means. But he is easily 3rd string in Irontons qb room this season.

Based on what? Not even making it to the regional finals last year while being backup to a QB that threw for 27 yards against Burg? Last year, Burg’s QB had a better year than these two QBs you speak of.

Again, have at least some varsity results to compare.

Plus throw in the fact you take away the long TD run by Terry and they only score 10 points and then the fact that Burg held up their end of the bargain in the playoffs for a rematch where ironton couldn't beat HP either.
