QB - Even. Schreck is a very underrated Qb but so is Rucker
RB - Even. Burg gonna look different at RB this year. A lot more muscle mass back there than years past. Ironton has good backs too.
WR - Ironton. With Terry can’t deny that
O line - Burg. Huge and seasoned. Ironton line not deep enough
Defense
D line. - Burg. Always coached well and has the right guys in there. Ironton will miss Patterson
LB - Ironton. Returns more seasoned guys
DB - Ironton slight edge. Their ability to cover is really impressive.
Special teams: even. Burg ain’t kicking to Terry. They ain’t stupid
Coaching- Burg. I can’t evaluate Pendleton until he has only Ironton kids.

Offense
QB - Even. Schreck is a very underrated Qb but so is Rucker
RB - Ironton. Not even close. Williams, Carmon, Graves and Copas. Loaded backfield that’s as good or better than Ironton has had under Pendleton. Wheelersburg will be young and experienced although I expect them to have some talent.
WR - Ironton. By a WIDE margin. Ironton goes 6-7 Deep at this position. Wheelersburg I’m sure will have some skill but not near to level of Ironton.
O line - Even but I would lean Ironton. Returns 4 starters. Will be big and athletic upfront. 2 three year starters. A young one with D1 offers. Wheelersburg will be very good in trenches as well. But I think Ironton returns more.
Defense
D line. - Ironton. Always good. Lost Patterson but return 2 of 3 starters. Both of which have started multiple years. Will be very deep at position. Have a bevy of young guys at this position.
LB - Ironton. Returns 3 of 4 starters. Graves moves in to replace loss last year.
DB - Ironton . Their ability to cover is really impressive. BIG advantage. Return entire DB unit
Special teams: even. Burg ain’t kicking to Terry. They ain’t stupid
Both kicking games will be good. Schreck will be punter for Ironton.
Coaching- IRONTON. Pendleton 4-2 against burg. 113-46 total score

Not sure those numbers are right. I believe 119-76 with 70 of those coming in two games; Ironton outscored Burg 70-12 in those two games.XandOs wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 6:54 pm Offense

He’s been to some camps this Summer, he’s doing really good. He’ll be a Junior this year and definitely has a strong leg.
Re: Ironton - Burg debate
Just watched podcast this morning interviewing Coach Woodward from Wheelersburg. He talks about the transfer from Northwest having an impact in the backfield. Is this transfer talk because it’s Wheelesburg or recruiting talk? 74 kids out at Burg. 14 seniors . Good numbers. Ironton is typically somewhere around 60 kids. Ironton will have a bigger senior class maybe pushing 20.

Larger enrollment
"Superior coaching and culture."
And recruiting.
4th best winning % in state
No excuse for burg to be 1 -9 vs Ironton jackson and prep combined over the last three seasons but yet here we are.
No excuses week 1. Its a home game for "homegrown" burg also.
No excuses. #CoachFumes

I thought someone posted that Ironton’s senior class was going to be over 20 this year. Is that not the case? And team projected to be around 60?XandOs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 12:14 pm Just watched podcast this morning interviewing Coach Woodward from Wheelersburg. I watched that as well. The three backs he mentioned are all juniors. Brown and Emnett were expected to get carries; Emnett’s dad was a good player. Was on the first Burg team that won in Tank stadium.
He mentioned Doss as well who will be a junior. Don’t know much about the kid other than his dad being the baseball coach at Northwestern; and the kid being a pitcher. But wondering if his addition is the reason Cunningham left?? No idea if that played a role, but four backs fighting for carries could have been a problem. Plus, how will they use Conn on offense? Only a sophomore but suppose to be a really good athlete.
As for team size, Burg could top 80 next year. 8th grade team is very good with Woodward’s son being the QB. Good chance Burg could have 20 or more in each class in 2025.

You should watch Woodward’s interview to learn something. He was asked about Burg’s goals for the year. He said they are the same every year and in this order:
- Win SOC
- Make playoffs and get first two games at home
- Win state
Difference in his thinking and yours is that to him, Ironton is just a means to an end. They mean nothing towards the first goal, may help with the second, and could be a barrier to the third; although they have not been 2 of the last 3 years.
To you, beating Burg is the ultimate goal. It appears your life evolves around that. As a Burg fan, very flattered that you consider Burg the ultimate prize. Sorry we don’t see Ironton as such.
Re: Ironton - Burg debate
Look for Ironton to have around 20 seniors and 60 total. Think the freshman class is light in numbers as only 10 played. But hearing the Junior high will have almost 50 between the two grades. From talking to kids and parents around town. Ironton will never have great big #s as the workload required by the staff is insane. They are typically doing something 335 days a year. Many kids now days don’t want to commit to that type of work and schedule. Pendletons weight program is 2nd to none as you can see it on the kids when they take the field. The players are pushed and challenged everyday.RBH23 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 1:22 pmI thought someone posted that Ironton’s senior class was going to be over 20 this year. Is that not the case? Pendleton mantra is ALLIN and he weeds out the kids in program who aren’t all in with the work required to play at Ironton. I’ve had buddies that watched practice tell me he couldnt believe how hard the kids at Ironton are pushed.
I can also assure you Ironton ultimate goal isn’t to beat Wheelersburg. That’s just a step on the path to the main goal and that’s to win state championship.
Re: Ironton - Burg debate
With the new schedule, do you think only having around 60 kids will be an issue? I know that seems an odd question given that 60 is a good number for D5, but Ironton’s schedule is going to brutal now and into the future. Lots of games going four full quarters.XandOs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 1:36 pmLook for Ironton to have around 20 seniors and 60 total. Think the freshman class is light in numbers as only 10 played. Oh I agree Pendleton is thinking bigger. Of course he wants to beat Burg just as bad as Woodward wants to beat IHS, but both have bigger goals.

Burg isnt a goal. Matter fact burg has barely performed good enough more recently to even be a rival in r19. Again 1 - 9 over the last 3 seasons vs the big 3 on their schedule. I have always seen Wheelersburg as Fairland in Irontons colors tbh. Dont get confused cause i am enterained by mocking all the gaslighting and empty narrative spoken by this sites burg fanbase.RBH23 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 2:04 pmWith the new schedule, do you think only having around 60 kids will be an issue?
