Let's see YOUR rankings of the Top teams in SEO for 2024-25 "By Division" ...

Post by pfloyd »

Who do YOU have as the top 5 or more if you like teams in each of the 7 divisions in the SE District for the upcoming 2024-25 season?

... obviously we can go ahead and rank all 6 in Div 3 , Logan in D2 is the lone school (how do they do the ALL SE District in Div 2 for Logan? always wondered that when Logan and Chillicothe were the lone wolf D1 schools Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line- but I digress) ... D4 imo is THE best division, most competitive division in SEO this season, outstanding from top to bottom (I'm thinking the 2024-25 Pfloyd Tour will be spending a whole lot of time in those 14 gyms this winter, from the shear fact that those 14 teams are outstanding - good games on any given night) ... Div 5 is top heavy ... anyway let's see who YOU feel are THE teams by division in the SE District rank 'em :

Div. 2 (1)

Logan

Div. 3 (6)

Chillicothe
Sheridan
Miami Trace
Marietta
Athens
Warren Local

Div. 4 (14)

Jackson
Hillsboro
Circleville
Gallia Academy
Logan Elm
Fairfield Union
Waverly
Unioto
McClain
Vinton County
Westfall
Washington Court House
New Lexington
Meigs

Div 5 (18)

River Valley
Wheelersburg
Portsmouth
Ironton
Piketon
Alexander
Zane Trace
Wellston
Fairland
South Point
Oak Hill
West Union
Minford
Northwest
Nelsonville York
Chesapeake
Eastern Brown
Coal Grove

Div 6 (19)

Lynchburg Clay
Lucasville Valley
Portsmouth West
Rock Hill
North Adams
Huntington
Adena
Southeastern
Ripley
Crooksville
Peebles
Belpre
Waterford
Paint Valley
Eastern Reedsville
Eastern Pike
Symmes Valley
Portsmouth Clay
Federal Hocking

Div 7 (14)

Manchester
Western Pike
South Webster
Whiteoak
Fairfield Leesburg
Southern
Trimble
Portsmouth Notre Dame
South Gallia
Miller
Green
Portsmouth East
New Boston
Ironton St Joseph

... personally I've gone through all 72 teams and have the 2nd draft of my Preseason Elite 8 ranked ( changes as the summer plays out, the transfer picture comes into focus, etc.) ... I've ranked the teams by division, I'll go back and see how the best in each division matchup with the best of teams in the other 6 divisions ... so the 2nd draft will turn into 3 or 4 before the Official Pfloyd's Preseason Elite 8 ranking hits SEOPs in late October (might be earlier this season since I don't have a "day job" this year - we'll see) ...

Alright, if you don't want to "rank" them 1-? ... Which teams are the top teams in each division? I've ranked them on my notes here in Pfloyd's office BUT I'll go with just listing the top teams in each division who I feel should be considered for top 10 teams in each division - imo:

None of these are in any ranked order Intentionally anyway ...

D3:

Sheridan
Marietta
Warren

D4:

Jackson
Hillsboro
Circleville
Gallia Academy
Logan Elm
FU
Waverly
Unioto
New Lexington
Meigs

D5:

Wheelersburg
Portsmouth
Ironton
Piketon
Zane Trace
Fairland
Minford
Nelsonville York
Chesapeake
Eastern Brown

D6:

Lynchburg Clay
Portsmouth West
North Adams
Adena
Southeastern
Peebles
Belpre
Waterford
Eastern Pike
Symmes Valley

D7:

Manchester
Western Pike
South Webster
Whiteoak
Fairfield Leesburg
Southern
Trimble
Portsmouth Notre Dame
South Gallia
New Boston

... again these are NOT in ANY "ranked" order !!! ... I really want to see YOUR take on which teams are the best in each division , I've narrowed down the field - which is open for discussion as well ... I just listed off of the divisional team list in SEO ... I WILL provide MY Preseason Ranking by division later in the summer as the "transfer" portal closes, more info comes in about each team, etc.

People are sleeping on the Titans. From what I've heard they had a good summer. 3 out of 5 starters are back (LB, AB, MP). The Davis kid stepped up this summer. Depth will be in issue for Titans but I can see them being #3 in D7 maybe #2. Replacing Thomas and Metzler will be tough but they have enough Veteran leadership to overcome that.

I feel like D6 in the Southeast might be almost a wild card. Some really good/elite teams in D5 that the teams in D6 would have to always go up against.

North Adams loses copas the player and copas the coach but they return 3 good seniors that won’t let expectations slip. I think Lucasville Valley is missing from your list of D6 Pfloyd. I remember them having a strong soon to be sophomore class there. They will be a tough group.

Overall D6 could be very interesting in my opinion.

Agreed on Valley. Their junior and sophomore classes both won the Scioto County championship in junior high, so they should be a tough out in D6. Loss of Vice to Northwest hurts, and rebounding/interior defense seems to be their biggest question marks. I could see them finishing anywhere from 4th to 6th in SOC III, but still having the talent to get to D6 Regionals.*

2. Leesburg Fairfield
3. Portsmouth Notre Dame
4. Southern
5. Portsmouth East
6. New Boston

This list is based off what I saw last year and this summer. I haven't gotten to see all the teams, so my list is a 50/50 guess on some of the teams. I think all the D3 teams are good with Warren being #1 when they are 100% healthy. D6 has a lot of parity this upcoming year.

Yes, I haven’t seen half the teams and are simply guesses on my part other than South Webster being the overwhelming favorite in D7.

Did Larkin Friend graduate? Losing that triple double puts a bigger separation at the top of D7 by a mile. Just my opinion.

D4:

1.) Meigs
2.) New Lexington
3.) Logan Elm
4.) Unioto
5.) Hillsboro

Don’t sleep on Logan Elm being the best of this bunch by years end. They have a stud and good shooters and athletes around him.

D5:

1.) Minford
2.) Chesapeake
3.) Eastern Brown
4a.) Ironton
4b.) Wheelersburg
4C.) Zane Trace

This seems to be the hardest division. Only 2 of these teams will win the district. Minford has the most talent especially with the Haggy move in, but they’ve won one game in the district in nearly 20 years. Eastern Brown is better than people think, they returned a lot and had a sophomore move in that will help also — not to mention a legendary coach.

D6:

1.) North Adams
2.) Symmes Valley
3.) Lucasville Valley
4.) Peebles
5.) Eastern Pike

This seems to be the weakest division with not much separation and no elite teams. Valley won’t have the best record because the SOC3 is loaded this year, but they are young and will only get better as the season goes on. They’re not a team anyone will want to see come tournament time. Symmes also very dangerous because they have a stud at guard.

D7:

1.) South Webster
2.) Notre Dame
3.) Manchester
4.) Fairfield Leesburg
5.) could argue a lot of teams here

SW the clear favorite but Notre Dame’s starting 5 is still really solid. Manchester is better than people think IMO. Leesburg will need the young Friend to take a large step but they still have the 6’5” guy in the middle and are well coached. They will be dangerous enough to pull some upsets.

Cozart has a life time contract at Athens. He is a fantastic coach. A true winner who loves the Bulldogs. Year number 10?
