Probably right about this one pfloyd. He put up some big numbers this summer in the games I watched. Points weren't just coming in the paint either, mid-range and 3 ball were there as well. If he stays out of foul trouble, he will be a handful to stop.
... Your info on Cade Mock adding the perimeter game to his skill set - I really like the mid-range option for CM , I can see Cade getting an entry pass as he curls at the elbow and being a threat to score OR get to the rim off the dribble ... I'm high on this young man, as I posted he reminds me of Trent Taylor (Warren graduate) ... you're right - with his size/skill set he HAS TO BE ON FLOOR - stay out of foul trouble ... 6-7 on the bench "ain't" helping TEAM ...

Are there any 6’5 kids that won’t help their teams? Come on man.
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
... I've seen quite a few 6-5 and bigger "bodies" sitting on benches ALL around SEO ... many times it's that these BIGS are of the freshman, sophomore variety ... they dress for varsity , but don't see the floor outside of the freshman or JV game - because they aren't ready to IMPACT the game YET ... they aren't ready for the varsity speed of the game/strength of older jr or senior big men/physicality of the varsity game ... that was the intent of the thread - we saw these bigs sitting the bench - are they going to see the floor on varsity THIS season, are they ready to IMPACT the game at the varsity level ...artisgilmore wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 5:44 pm Are there any 6’5 kids that won’t help their teams? Along with Hunter Barnard, he will give SW scoring options behind Roberts and Shupert. The Ghost of Swanker wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 11:45 am I’m looking for Bryson McClintic (SW Junior) to add some buckets for the jeeps this year. Great shooter and can get to the basket on the drive at will. He can run point too
I think SW and Burg will be behind Minford now with the addition of Haggy at Minford. Don't count out Waverly, I know they lost an athletic kid this summer but they will be a force for the next few years. Anytime a team like Waverly can rebound the way they do, they will have a shot to win every game. I thought Wolfenbarker looked to fit in at West and may surprise a lot of people with that sophomore class filling some holes of last year's graduates.
Burg is extremely athletic with some very nice perimeter players.
Valley had a successful summer in terms of life without Jace Copley(you can never replace a player like him) and figuring out what that looks like. We are very young and we have roles to fill which is not a good situation to be in. We grew as a team in June ball and proved to ourselves that it can be done as we were much better at the end of the month. I liked the steps that we have taken so far but we need to get more physical to compete in the SOC III, which will prepare us for our new division 6 tournament play next year.
The 3 teams that were super impressive to me this summer in no particular order: Meigs, Minford and Chesapeake.
Next 2 were Burg and South Webster.
Biggest question mark team for me: Ironton, do all those football players play basketball? If so, they will be really good with Schreck and Layne leading the way.
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
Great input JJMD24 ... you're absolutely right - you don't replace a Jace Copley ... Valley always has athletes, once they all figure out their new roles - they will be fine in D6 - the top teams figure to be North Adams, Belpre, Symmes Valley ... I've got Valley in the top 10 in D6 in the SE District ...JJMD24 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 9:26 pmAlong with Hunter Barnard, he will give SW scoring options behind Roberts and Shupert. The Ghost of Swanker wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 11:45 am I’m looking for Bryson McClintic (SW Junior) to add some buckets for the jeeps this year. Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
Fairfield Union is probably a year away from being a major player in both the MSL and SEOhio post season BUT as I watched the Falcons of Coach Shaeffer this summer - young squad, lots of sophomores BUT a bunch of basketball players - length, ball handlers, shooters ... my impact player for FU will be sr Keegan Arnett, an undersized post player at 6-4 but a player who WANTS the ball, has good post moves inside, is strong enough to get to where he wants on the floor offensively ... KA played in the shadows of Caleb Schmelzer & Caleb Redding last season - being the 3rd option ... Arnett stepped up vs Marietta in the post in a losing effort while both Schmelzer/Redding struggled ... I like his confidence, his game - he will be the glue that holds the youngsters together while they get their feet wet in the varsity game ... FU will be a surprise team by the end of the season with solid youngsters/Arnett in the post & an excellent FU coaching staff to set the table imo ...
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
I posted on the transfer thread that Circleville picked up Kole Nungester from Teays Valley where the 6-2 guard averaged almost 11ppg/ 6 rpg/ 3 dimes per outing in his sophomore season last year ... KN played alongside fellow soph Brody Fields who avg 19 ppg ... Nungester will come to Roundtown as a hardnosed, physical guard who WILL run the show for the Tigers - a big time impact player pick up for CHS imo in the SE district MSL hardwood wars ...
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
Another impact player from the Northwest Territories - Joe Wray a transfer in to Westfall last season from Circleville, played but 11 games due to transfer rules, Wray averaged 19 ppg, 2.4 assts in half a season of action... the high scoring PG/SG will be available for the entire season in this his jr. season for the Mustangs - an almost 20 ppg scorer will make his presence known in any league - impact player imo ...
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
I like Westfall as well and think they would be right behind South Point on my list. They have a sophomore Bryan Craig that is very talented as well.
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
Does anyone anticipate Shaun Terry playing basketball this year for Ironton? I feel like his status might be up in the air with the possibility of early enrolling for spring football.
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
Have to edit this as I just realized that Westfall is now D4 and not D5.
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
val13, good question ... Ironton NEEDS his services on the hardwood but as a D1 gridiron recruit headed for Missouri - it would surprise me that he plays on the hardwood this season ... if he stays & plays - he would make/give the Tigers that 3 headed monster of a 6-3 Braden Schreck sr./ 6-3 soph Ashton Layne & Terry, throw in Judah Barnes on the perimeter adding a 3 ball threat ... if he goes? 2 heads are better than 1 but 3? that would be the trifecta of offensive balance for Ironton ... I don't know how much say Missouri has in whether Terry plays hoops or not ... if he finishes up coursework early for an early out grad & enroll for the Spring at Missouri for Spring football - makes sense I suppose ...

pfloyd: not sure if Haggy was with Minford yet at that time. But he is going to be a huge addition for Minford and I think it makes them the favorite in SOC III again over Webster. D5 Regionals is the goal for Minford this season.pfloyd wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 10:30 amart_vandelay, do you know if Drew Haggy played with the Minford big 3 at this event ? 0-4? I really liked the sophomores (now juniors) at Wheelersburg last season - Rucker/Bivens/Evans/McGraw ... Logan Adkins (6-2) was part of that class - now transferred to PHS ... Lattimore WAS a big, big, big reason for the Burg success last season - going to have some adjustment to the roles without Lattimore this season ...art_vandelay wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 11:42 pm Saw Peake went 2-2 at Midwest Live at Cedar Point a few weeks ago. Beat Dayton Chaminade-Julienne and Lima Shawnee, and lost to Fremont Ross and Tallmadge. Should be a top D5 team this year, and Ater will always have them rebounding and playing tough defense.
South Webster went 3-1; Minford 0-4; and Burg 0-4 at the same event. Real tough competition that made all these SE Ohio teams better.*
As for Wheelersburg, they will be really athletic and play solid defense as always. I wonder though where the consistent scoring is going to come from and how they will be on the boards? I got them currently 3rd behind Minford and Webster in SOC III. But Prater will get everything he can out of this team and won't be surprised if they end up playing for a District Championship again.*
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
I know I saw a couple tweets and facebook posts about his performances this spring on the AAU circuit, so I would find it hard to believe if he is playing spring basketball that he wouldn't play winter.
Re: Impact players in the 2024-25 season ... Who do you have?
I ranked Ironton in my "by division" rankings that I posted today without Shaun Terry playing on the hardwood ... I HOPE HE PLAYS! - he is an excellent player and makes Ironton as I had posted that 3 headed offensive threat - there may be more offensive talent for the Tigers but Terry, Schreck, Lane are proven scorers/defenders etc - the key word is "proven" ... without him? his quicks/scoring at the rim/defensive quicks of foot & hands - they'll feel that loss ... hence I have them down the list - but with Terry playing AAU ball in the spring - makes it at least seem like he will be sticking around for hoops in SEO - WE , the cheap seat guys, WE win with that scenario ...

The freshman PG at Gallia transferred from River Valley after his 7th grade year.pfloyd wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 4:42 pm... good stuff Bleacher92 - thank you ... Indeed he did, however this conversation was in regard to whether or not he had transferred back to River Valley.
