PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
As we all know, to be successful on the hardwood as a TEAM in the regular season, but even more important - in the post season - a TEAM must have a quality PG ... usually we think of a PG as the floor leader/ a floor general ... someone who initiates the offense, distributes the ball, controls the tempo of the game, can penetrate, dish the rock, get the ball in the hands of the scorers ... luckily in SEO we have the pleasure to watch some outstanding floor generals every season all of which contribute to the success of their respective teams in both the regular season and post season. 2024-25 will showcase some of the best we've seen from the Cheap Seats ... help me get the names of the best of the best PGs Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line out there ... I've looked at my 71 team list for the different divisions 1-7, tried to put together a list of who I feel are quality PGs in SEO - as with the BIGS in SEO that I listed on another thread, I'm going to throwout my list, BUT my purpose is get input from all of YOU, so I can learn the names of PGs/ players that I don't know ... we see names of players from the "top" teams (which we should! as the top teams usually have outstanding BIGS or tweener BIGS, PGs, shooting pgs, swing/power forwards that work together to make them top teams) BUT we all see quality bigs ... PGs ... players on teams that aren't the top teams ... I'm hoping that the names & teams of as many quality players, PGs get listed here so we/I can make an effort to go see/get eyes on/ report on/ give them props on this forum and around SEO as I travel to the different venues & talk to those on radio, in positions at local papers , other sport websites ...

...who should be on our 2024-25 PG watch list ? :
Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
Who are some of the "new" / "incoming" PGs in SEOhio for the 2024-25 season? as I posted we lost some excellent PGs - Who's taking their place as the floor leader?
Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
I think you'll see junior Trey Hawkins primarily handling PG duties at Marietta.
Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
I’m not sure if he will take over the actual point guard spot for Bransyn Copas, but Jayce Rothwell (Sr.) sees the floor like a point guard. He is the “do everything” man for North Adams. A very good all around hooper with an incredibly high basketball IQ.
Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
... not Seth Britton ? Britton seemed perfect for the PG position - not looking to HAVE TO get his points, sees the floor well, gets the ball in the hands of the scorers ... if Hawkins is at PG, will Britton come off the bench? or will he take on a different role for the Tigers of Coach Gardner this coming season ...
... thanks Hookshot for your input ...gives me additional info on Marietta ... How did Zaiden Wittekind look this summer ? - Wittekind will be asked to carry a lot of the offensive load with the loss of Lieras-Kelley & the big man in the middle 6-8 Alex Kendall ... not sure if the Tigers have any 6-8 size coming up - Braiden Plaugher on the JV last season, 6-4ish will probably be asked to stepup in the paint this coming season - going to have to get a feel for the varsity game quickly ... how did he look this summer?

Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
val13, I totally agree - Rothwell can play ANY position, he is outstanding ... definitely will give Coach McCormick a solid player to build around, throw in Breestin Schweikart & Carson Osborne - you have defense, 3 point scoring - the cupboard "ain't" bare for NA as those 3 are solid/double digit scorers every night - they can stretch the opposing defense , all have the quicks to get to the rim ... can forget Connor Young sr who will add even more perimeter scoring for NA ... what kind of size does Coach McCormick bring with him from the JV to the varsity?
Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
Not sure I can offer much more. I see 8 or 9 players who will be part of the rotation and Seth will be a key part of that. Wittekind was OK but did not seem to take on a major scoring load in the limited action I saw. Plaugher looked to be much more of a complete player already than in his time on JV, so I think he'll contribute. Players will need to work and earn playing time between now and December.pfloyd wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 8:39 pm... not Seth Britton ? Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
Minford adding Haggie makes them a very dangerous team. That’s 2 1,000 point scorers in the backcourt with very long shooting range ability and can handle pressure.
Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
Jason Vorhees, Minford adding a "Drew Haggy" gives then 4 legitimate double digit scorers on the floor ... when I say "legitimate" I'm not talking players "with the potential" I'm seeing 4 players - Montgomery/Haggy/Kayser/Shoemaker who WILL GET double digits in ppg , players you have to "defend" in hopes of NOT giving up double digit scoring per game ... I look at Montgomery/Haggy/Kayser as 15+ ppg each! depending on the opposition's ability to handle pressure on the perimeter - I see Montgomery/Haggy/Kayser getting 20 ppg if they play vs a team that allows them to get out in transition ... transition points will be one of those napkin stats that I will want to keep track of with this Falcon team - they will be a nightmare for opposing teams ... I still feel Glockner HAS TO be an effective offensive "weapon" 6-8 ppg - force teams to have to defend him, this will force teams to defend straight up vs the other 4 Falcon amigos ... bench strength will be an issue for Minford until it's not - until the youngsters show me it's not ... having Haggy , having 4 legitimate scorers allows for rotation of the big 4 - keeping 3 scorers on the floor all 32 minutes with that mix of 4 double digit scorers in that first 8 minutes ...the Falcons will be fun to watch !Jason Vorhees wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 7:14 am Minford adding Haggie makes them a very dangerous team. Re: PG's Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line 2024-25 :
Jackson is obviously guard heavy... but if players are rotated enough, I can see the young Dayton Kallner (soph) getting good reps at PG, and he is lightning fast.
Young, still developing, but has the ability to dial the defensive pressure up to 110%. Very few offensive players will want him guarding them.
And he can beat most defenders off the dribble without too much trouble.
Maybe not a huge shooting threat just yet, but if he can handle the ball and let Carroll/Jenkins/Seimetz/Wolford move off the ball and play a scoring role, that could be a tough mix for teams to guard.

... thanks bc for another name to watch for the Ironmen at the PG position ... not a PG , but CJ Crabtree at 6-4 was the "size" on last years roster - what kind of summer did he have , will he be a factor for the Ironmen this coming season as sophomore or will he be mainly JV & dress for varsity/used as needed ?bc181700 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 2:52 pm Jackson is obviously guard heavy... but if players are rotated enough, I can see the young Dayton Kallner (soph) getting good reps at PG, and he is lightning fast.

Crabtree was injured for most of summer b-ball, but he did have a solid Spring on the AAU court. He will play consistent minutes on varsity, and be in the normal rotation of top 7-8 players.pfloyd wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 8:53 pm... thanks bc for another name to watch for the Ironmen at the PG position ... not a PG , but CJ Crabtree at 6-4 was the "size" on last years roster - what kind of summer did he have , will he be a factor for the Ironmen this coming season as sophomore or will he be mainly JV & dress for varsity/used as needed ?bc181700 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 2:52 pm Jackson is obviously guard heavy... but if players are rotated enough, I can see the young Dayton Kallner (soph) getting good reps at PG, and he is lightning fast.

I was able to catch multiple incoming soph's in Spring ball (Crabtree, Kallner and younger Carroll), and they looked much more "mature" than the freshman season just a few months prior. Crabtree and Joel Carroll were both injured for the month of June ball, but should be fully mended soon.
All 3 of those will hopefully play JV and still get minutes on Varsity.
Side note on the "bigs" for Jackson. Jake Allen was on the bench with the team during summer ball. He played Freshman year, did not play Soph year (focuses on football, has received multiple collegiate offers already), but if he does decide to play he's a large, physical player for tough matchup games. I'm recalling 6'3" 275lbs or so... great kid, and I'm hoping he enjoys another season on the hardwood.

bc ! great information!! thank you! Did Garrett Legg (transfer from Piketon) play with the Jackson squad this summer at all ? If so, how did he look ?bc181700 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 2:44 pmCrabtree was injured for most of summer b-ball, but he did have a solid Spring on the AAU court. I do believe he's played baseball with a number of the Jackson players in the past few years, so hopefully that translates to some comfort once he joins the team on the hardwood. That core group of Jackson varsity players have played together year-round since 2nd grade. First tournament ever was at the legendary "The Complex" in West Portsmouth. My how time flies...

Incoming freshman Kage Alexander from Waverly will work his way into this conversation sooner than later. He’s already a scorer at all three levels and has varsity IQ and vision. It’s just a matter of him catching up to the physicality and speed of varsity.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching that kid a few times. I’ve never seen him on the wrong side of the ball… IMO - he’s super competitive. No attitude involved, though. There is a difference.bball06 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 4:51 pmhe’s a solid player needs to fix his attitude though.GrumpyPundit wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 12:41 amIncoming freshman Kage Alexander from Waverly will work his way into this conversation sooner than later. No issue with attitude with this young man. 3 sport athlete, contributing to the varsity football team as a freshman as well.OldHooper wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 5:27 pmI’ve had the pleasure of watching that kid a few times. Back to the “players to be added”
Jayce Rothwell - North Adams. Should be an absolute problem this year. Had a great showing throughout their runs the last few seasons. A top guard in the area.
Cam Jane - Western. He will take over as their best player this year (even with Haggie moving back to LA).
Kage Alexander - Waverly. This kid should quickly find his way in to some news feeds. Can flat out play the game.
