Waverly Tigers Football 2024

Post by smurray »

Saw the Tigers 1st 7 on 7 last Saturday against Hillsboro and Adena, and they looked pretty good. They went to Ashland University on Wednesday to participate in a 7 on 7 tournament. The Tigers faced Elida, Ashtabula Lakeside, Hillsdale and Buckeye Valley. I hear the Tigers did very well...

The offense will have alot of weapons with Mason Kelly returning for his final season at QB. A stable of excellent WR's return in Kody Swords, Mason Pollard, Mason Sparks, & Hez Nelson along with a couple good TE's, Sawyer Meyers and Lane Bear. Look for Dylan Leeth, Hunter Hauck, Cade Carroll and Sebastian Billiasano to get carries in the backfield early on. I may have missed a couple guys and got a position or 2 wrong, but that should be close. The offensive line will be young and a work in progress.

Who can fill us in on the defense and add anything to the offensive side?

First scrimmage is at Washington Court House on Saturday August 10 at 10:00a.m.

Is the ceiling 7-3 floor 4-6? Or am I off on that?

2024 Waverly Football (0-0)
8/23 A Miami Trace (0-0) LOSS
8/30 H Zane Trace (0-0) WIN
9/6 H Unioto (0-0) TOSSUP game
9/13 A Valley (0-0) WIN
9/20 A Portsmouth West (0-0) LOSS
9/27 H Oak Hill (0-0) WIN
10/4 A Minford (0-0) WIN
10/11H Wheelersburg (0-0) LOSS
10/18A Northwest (0-0) WIN
10/25H Mount Healthy (0-0) LOSS

Heard about the 1st 7 on 7 and honestly playing Hillsboro and Adena in a passing scrimmage is sort of funny really but good warmup though, played well at Ashland? That's good with Kody Swords and Mason Sparks on the outside and a senior QB Waverly should dominate in 7-7. Waverly is going to have a MAJOR problem along the LOS on both sides of the ball, couple that with having to find a new RB and the Tigers are going to struggle in the run game. As you will see above the Tigers will be a 5 or 6 win team the losses, I wrote in are just about locked in. Unioto replacing the QB is a big spot and why I say tossup game. Teams are going to make a choice they can drop 6-7 in pass coverage and probably still get pressure, or they can bring it all out and get pressure fast and stop guys from getting deep. Good news for Waverly they got switched up into region 15 is a big boost come playoff time but at 5-5 seeding could be a big problem.

Over the years Waverly has consistently produced excellent quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs. Yet they have not been similarly blessed with offensive and defensive line play.

Is this just the luck of the draw on available talent, or does Waverly's coaching philosophy favor the development of the skilled positions?

Waverly is always competitive. Just curious what it will take for the Tigers to advance their program to the point where they can regularly challenge the Burg and teams they face in the early rounds of the playoffs.

Everyone in the know knows the answer but it’s simply only talked about behind closed doors amongst those unwilling to make it happen.

Have zero idea what you’re talking about, I mean are you quoting yourself or what, and if you’re going to bring some type of politics to a football forum go play around on the political forum.

I'm referring to your quote, "Everyone in the know knows the answer but it’s simply only talked about behind closed doors amongst those unwilling to make it happen" - sounds like Harris to me. What the hell are you even saying?

And get off your superiority kick - it wasn't a political statement about anything - just a quote - don't tell me where I should post anything.

Anyone know why waverly didn’t go to the Jackson 7-7? They usually go every year and ppl expected them today.

OH MY, spoken like a person who doesn't know   . The moment you started bringing in political names you made it that point blank, you don't understand that point than I can't help you with it. Take it elsewhere

I don't know how anyone would've expected them, their schedule for 7-7 was a home one they had on the 12th and then went up to Ashland University last week on the 17th. Jackson wasn't on the schedule at any point this year, schedule I seen had them with the week off right now.

Other ppl at the 7-7 told me they were coming and no one knew why they weren’t there. Must of been a mix up between them.

Gotcha, last couple years this would've been the one they were at Jackson on so maybe they were going off of years past thinking they'd be there.

Talking over coffee is where you get the true scoop on the gridiron. As the last donut went down, I heard that the offensive line might be green and not very athletic. Obviously just an opinion, but if accurate, not what you want to line up with. Also heard their best o-lineman is coming off of surgery. What was the record last year? They said they had a senior dominated line last year? Just wondered what their ceiling might be too.

Would've thought talking over coffee about it would've given you answers to all of these questions ;)

Waverly looks solid at skill positions, but can offensive and defensive lines hold up? Looks like a 6-4 type season*

Beat WCH fairly easily, WCH simply doesn't have the skilled players to keep up with Waverly could be a long year for them.

Yeah I think Waverly will sit at that 5-6 win area yet again. The OL and DL are going to be major major, did I say MAJOR issues for this team this year, offense can score through the air if the QB can stay upright. However, unless they change things up with the running scheme they're not going to push ppl around and create running space for whoever is back there with Hurd gone. DL going to be another issue as I can really see them struggling against the run unless they sell out to stop the run and leave their DBs on an island and they're not ready for that either.
