That Ironton team went on to State Finals, but only beat Burg 12-3 (with a late touchdown in 4th quarter to seal game). Burg actually outgained them in yardage if I remember right. Unless this Burg team is drastically worse than 2 years ago, I don't see this game being a blowout.*
This game will come down to turnovers and mistakes, just like nearly every game before. No doubt Ironton is better on paper, and if Burg makes too many mistakes, we could see a repeat of early 2021. Could also see the end of 2021 if Ironton makes the mistakes.

That said, Burg can help their cause by trying to slow the game down and run the ball behind their big line. If Burg gets pass happy, which they tend to do, this will lead to mistakes/turnovers. Will play to IHS’ advantage.

As always, great game to start the season!
Agree. It will be interesting to see if burgs oc will commit to a grind it out and pound it gameplan. It seems like he gets impatient.

Now as far as my Tigers go, I would also like to see them establish the run early. No excuse not to. They have some very good running backs who are fast and physical. If Ironton can establish the run and the young inexperienced burg defense has to be honest the Ironton receivers are gonna get loose and often imo.

Week 1 is always low scoring and close. Going to come down to turnovers and penalties. I say Terry gets loose for two TDs and Ironton wins 21-7.

Idk what this is about but it sounds personal and off topic. Sounds like he is saying Kaskey likes to be aggressive offensively. It doesn't sound like you are speaking on anything football related hence off topic. Pretty sure there is a rule about that. Lets keep it football. I agree. I think Ironton will likely try to be very aggressive offensively and if given the opportunity as in most rivalry games, they will not be shy about points in Ed Miller Stadium. Quite frankly the way burg fans behave on this site watching Ironton hang 30 or 40 or 50 at Ed Miller would be hilarious. Burgs fans deserve to see that for sure.

I say Ironton pulls away in the third and coasts to victory.

I will go against the grain in this thread and say Pirates take it. Burg is uniquely big on the o-line this year. The skilled kids are there and will move the ball against Ironton. Burg killed their chance of winning last year with 3 picks. QB now has full year under his belt and looks stronger and faster this year. Do not sleep on this kid, he's a true gamer. New addition of soccer player will add a wrinkle to the WR corp. He's super fast. Dunks with ease in basketball. And so far as shown he can catch and run.

Burg will need to win turnover battle, penalties, and limit Ironton big plays. If Coach K is calling the plays, he loves those type of plays and will look for opportunities.

Ironton is as equally as big as Burg if they want to be. They have 3 kids 6’5 290+

Starting OL
LT 6’0 240 3 year starter SR.
LG 6’0 240 soph.
C 5’10 260 2 year starter SR.
RG 6’5 290 2 year starter Jr
RT 6’3 260 3 year starter SR.

They have 2 kids in rotation that’s 6’5 290 that doesn’t start. The
DL also can go big and stop the run or it can go quick and get after the passer. A Lot of versatility with this team. Irontons skill kids are definitely bigger and more physical. Ironton will have 4 LBs at or over 200lbs along with 2 DBs over 190lbs. The other is Shaun Terry and Kayden Edwards.

Obviously you disagree that Burg’s OL size is of any value against IHS, so what’s your prediction for the game?

I understand that this game will be a tough one where Burg will have to win in all phases to get the victory. Ironton is essentially returning most of their team with just a few losses on each side of the ball. But I don't think it will be an easy Ironton win as predicted and I think Burg has the pieces to get it done.

The way burg fans chirp about superior coaching and culture on this site, add in having a larger enrollment AND being at home. Should be no excuses for burg. All that purported superiority should overcome anything on their schedule.

No excuses.

If I had to bet straight up on this game, I’d take IHS by a couple of scores. That said, the last four games in this series have been unpredictable. No outcome next week would surprise me.

Anderson beat Ironton tonight 24-16 in a half. I noticed Ironton held out 3-4 starters. Pretty competitive scrimmage tonight.

8 Days away!

Great scrimmage, Anderson is going to be pretty darn good. Definitely the kind of scrimmage we needed.
