Well there is a custodian in Southern Ohio who is in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Fast Pitch Hall of Fame.

Gave you an example to say it is possible but you sure are set on a certain coach or yourself as head coach. Enjoy your own tap water.

Well from reading these posts, I tend to lean more what BFT is saying. Portsmouth it would seem needs a expierence Head Coach either from past or current Coaching ranks that maybe has ties to Portsmouth. One that has proven track record and can get all the talent out in a school. Does qualifications for that job state a teaching position, no educational background or just work within a school system with no background in teaching. Each school district probably has there own set of rules or is it kinda state governed. But anyways good luck on the new Basketball Coach at Portsmouth.

Aaron Smith is no longer a custodian in the PCSD. He has a teaching job where he tends to students with special needs.

Thank goodness we had Aaron to coach the kids in summer ball, because there was no other alternative at the time.

It was good for the coach to chime in on what was really happening , he explained things that some on here were just guessing about .

Just an overall, unfortunate situation. Just got done reading that $6 million is missing. While yes, Trojan Dave said it is the administration’s job to hire a good coach, at the same time, you’ve got to be smart. You are not going to go to the blackjack table when you are already deep in the hole. I get why the administration couldn’t create a position for the coach. Then again, this is the fiscal conservative in me.

I have to preface my statement with this, Coach Lisath instilled initiated and created a band of brothers that didn’t truly exist in the previous season and regardless of what I decide for my basketball future I am thankful for the bond that we all have continued to share even in his absence this off season and summer. We have really rode for and inspired one another and it’s been great. I will probably be crucified for my opinion. I’m not even sure I should speak on this but as a member of the basketball team I will say the sudden and kind of suppressed resignation of coach has left my brothers and I devastated. One of the first conversations coach had with us during official practice was about respect. He told us if we never disrespected him, he would never disrespect us. That statement may not mean alot to you all but I was unsure if I wanted to continue to play basketball under the previous leadership but my parents were convinced to give the new coach a shot. So I did. I’m glad I did. When your teammates are being called stupid mf or being told they are dumb af for not understanding or executing the play that opening statement from coach was a breath of fresh air. Some people along with previous staff didn’t believe we were capable of going .500 not to mention winning a sectional and returning to Athens. Coach Lisath found and activated something in each of us that made us want to not only learn but learn to win. He tapped into us all and taught us how to win even down to the freshman team that did not win a game for like 2 years. I know you all looking from the outside in have your opinion on who should be the next head coach and as students and players we have ours too. Coach Greene has said he’s not interested and that is the choice my brothers and I had our fingers crossed for. I’ll yell you why. Through the course of the season some staff members took it upon themselves to to degrade, curse and belittle my brothers and I especially when Coach Lisath wasn’t around. Greene never once raised his voice in rage or spoke to us in a condescending manner even when some of the team was being disobedient in Coach Lisath’s absence. Greene simply stopped play or pulled the culprit to the side and spoke with them. He never set out to embarrass or belittle me when I didn’t get the job done. The edifying spirit he possessed on the sideline is one I will always hold near to me and I would hope that whoever the next coach is they would extend a hand to place him on staff if the next head coach is not Coach Greene himself. What some of you don’t know is that if it were not for Coach Greene Coach Gordon and Coach Bailey we may not have had any development in the offseason or even a team this summer. When others weren’t willing to let us in the gym and even went so far as to roll the rims up lock up the basketballs and other equipment while on vacation to keep us out of the gym. These three showed up for us. Shout out to Jon for always getting through. Anytime we called one of those three they answered and made things happen. If it meant they had to purchase new balls or take us to the LC to get shots up they did that. Thank you Coach Lisath for introducing my brothers and I to these great men of Christ in your short time here in Portsmouth. I will forever be grateful for this band of brothers and the edifying moments the past season allowed us to share. Once A Trojan Always A Trojan.

You are a funny guy. Ate up my man. But he is no longer the custodian, but now all the facebook roar is about his concession stand working abilities. :? Portsmouth people are a doozy sometimes. Maybe the hiring committee should take into consideration the feelings of the young men who would be on the team when making their selection. I’ve heard a few rumored applicants, on in particular whose resume would totally trump any of Coach Lisath’s remaining former staff, and he is still capable of playing competitive basketball at a high level, however he is currently coaching elsewhere so I won’t mention his name. Whoever we hire has to be capable of bringing out the very best in these young athletes and not settling for them just showing up. Summer basketball was atrocious. We also need a coach who won’t be ducking smoke, by taking the more competitive teams off the schedule. If you know you know.

Why no love for Coach Smith? Should we read between the lines?

I read it to, that was my thoughts after reading it also, no mention of Coach Smith.Very interesting post from young man that shows they care deeply and named the men they looked up to. Coach Green sounds like the choice from the Trojans. Some of his post was kind of concerning about previous interactions also. Hope the Trojans find the right fit for all involved.

I have read many posts on this site over the years. One concern I have is that, at times, people have written things that are their opinion (which is certainly acceptable), but have written as if it were fact. Often times opinions and facts are NOT the same.

My hope is that when posts are made, please distinguish your comments as being fact or opinion. Opinions can often be interpreted by readers as fact, and thus can be damaging to an individual or team without cause.

And one additional thing I have noticed. When things are written that were thought to be fact were shown in actuality to be false, please be man or woman enough to correct your post.

The above, by the way, is my opinion!

Coach Smith has every bit of the ability and knowledge to coach this team if give the chance, he will also bring in people with the knowledge and experience to help him along the way . Another thing with coach Smith he will be in it for the long haul , he is already a teacher at the school and has been employed by the school for a few years and has no plans of leaving the school or the district no time soon.

I've been a member of this site since it started and I can tell you ,if you want to find any truth on here you have to read between the lines to try to figure out what's going on and who's doing the posting, every school has that one poster you know will give you facts ,for Portsmouth you can rely on Trojan dave to post only facts that he knows,if he doesn't know it's factual he will point it out.

I will always support whoever the new coach is no matter WHO it is , because I'm a fan that wants to see the program win , you have to give any new coach a chance

Thanks, biggdowgg, for the compliment. I do indeed try to stick with the facts, and if I include opinions, then I try to back those up with facts. I rarely if ever post anything on here that doesn't have some level of fact that has been researched and double or triple checked for accuracy. Before I hit the submit button, I make sure that what I've written is what I want to say truthfully.

BerooO53: Good post overall, but I have to wonder like others why Coach Aaron Smith was not mentioned by name. He coached the team in June when Jeff Lisath didn't, and if it weren't for Aaron, there would have been no summer basketball scrimmages or shootouts. Your implication about a coach belittling you without naming that person leads me to believe you're referring to Aaron Smith.

Did you take issue face to face with this unnamed coach who belittled and cursed you? That would have been the best way to discuss the problem. I would have to think that some resolution could have been reached. By the way, I was at quite a few open gyms in which Aaron Smith was there, so it's not like he was in absentia during summer basketball. He coached the team at the Shawnee State shootout, he coached the team in the Northwest scrimmage, and coached the team at Rio Grande. So he was present with the team on numerous occasions. The gym doors were open quite often.

You are very correct about the efforts of Joe Greene, Jerald Gordon, and Thomas Bailey. They have gone well above the call of duty to make summer basketball more beneficial for the players. I know firsthand that those 3 gentlemen are not only good coaches, but good people as well, however, no mention or credit to Aaron Smith, who deserves some recognition. Also want to mention Coach Kevin Monroe, who was present on many occasions.

Looking forward to this coming season, and I want to see you, the team, and the new coach succeed. Just remember this please.......don't ever let a coach discourage you from playing the game you love just because he may have a personality that might rub you the wrong way. In life, you'll encounter a boss someday that you don't like, but I hope you won't give up that $50,000 salary just because you don't like him.

Trojan Dave is correct. One may disagree with his opinion, but his opinions do have factual basis.

Trojan Dave bleeds red and blue for sure.

Very interested to see how this process will unfold. I do not know who has applied but I suspect with changes in administration across the Trojan empire, it will be interesting: New AD, Principal and Supt.
If my opinion mattered, I think the easy and deserved choice would be Aaron Smith. Nothing to take away from Coach Green, I like him.
