Week 1 Monroe Central @ Belpre
Week 1 Monroe Central @ Belpre
This game kicks off Belpre's 75th season of high school football that started in 1950.
This game is the first ever game played between these two schools including the old Woodsfield High School.
The two teams had 2 common opponents last year, Caldwell and Reedsville Eastern. Both teams lost their respective games, Monroe Central 48 - 26 to Caldwell and 55 - 14 to Eastern in their second round playoff game. Belpre lost to Caldwell 49 -0 and to Eastern 49 - 6.
Last season Monroe Central finished 7-5 while Belpre was 1-9 beating Clay-Battelle of WV 31 - 13 in week 10 that snapped a losing streak of 22 games.
After 74 years of football, Belpre's record stands at 359 - 313 - 16.
Hoping for a good game and an early season Belpre win to start the season right, something we haven't done since 2014 when we defeated Fort Frye 35 - 21 to start the season.
Good luck and good health to both teams.
As always...

Monroe is better this year. They got 6-5 basketball player Allen out for the team. Tucker Howell is a good Qb as well.

Agree. Howell will be hard to contain.EasternDspy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 8:24 am Monroe is better this year. They got 6-5 basketball player Allen out for the team. Tucker Howell is a good Qb as well.
Positive note for Belpre, our team numbers are up from 17 last year to 22 this year. This will help add some depth that we desperately need as the rebuild continues.

Re: Week 1 Monroe Central @ Belpre
Was at the game. MC was much more physical and game ready than the Golden Eagles. Belpre made way too many mistakes, stupid personal fouls, penalties that were mental errors, and the turnovers, (six or seven, I lost track, including two pick sixes). Young team, they need to regroup, and get fired up. MC wanted it a lot more than Belpre. And that, was a quote from one of the Belpre players directly to me. Belpre is going to win some games this year, they just had a really tough draw week one. If MC stays healthy, I see them going 9-1 in the regular season, with the one loss to Barnesville.

I know a lot of people was trying to make JB look bad but we all knew when we saw the posts by the coaches and fans that Belpre had 35 players in the weight room it was all smoke and mirrors. Then it went to mid 20’s dressed to now 17. Jimmy would have had them to mid 20’s by now if they would have left him alone. What a shame.
I know, I was D1 fellas

Belpre had five players in street clothes, injured. How nearly 25% of the team was injured before the first game, well, I can't answer that. Let's hope they get healthy in the next couple of weeks and get some help from these guys.

On a side note. JB wouldn’t have fixed anything. Coaches at Belpre are making progress. Junior High team has 20 players and just beat TVC opponent Southern 46-8. Not bad for a program who went 3 years without fielding a full junior high team. Just give them time.. Belpre will be fine.*D1* wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 6:48 pmI know a lot of people was trying to make JB look bad but we all knew when we saw the posts by the coaches and fans that Belpre had 35 players in the weight room it was all smoke and mirrors. The JB "experiment" went on for two years too long. That has set the program back at least three years before they are truly competitive again. I have nothing but praise for the kids who had no junior high football to get them ready for HS football. They are giving it their all, and eventually, their Head Coach will get the program turned around, given time to do so. Those on the school board who endorsed and supported the JB "experiment", well, they should lose their seats on the school board and be embarrassed by what they did to the football program, and especially, the kids.UncleRico05 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:56 pmOn a side note. Thank you for the numbers. I was just going to ask before reading the thread.
Re: Week 1 Monroe Central @ Belpre
Good posts by UncleRico05 and Steely Dan. Lost years of no jr high football is hard to makeup and takes time. Decent numbers at the 7/8 grade level. They are getting good coaching there and at the varsity level. We only have 5 seniors this year so 17 coming back next year and that is a plus. We will take some lumps this year but we were better in game 1 this year vs last year. As mentioned there is a lot to clean up but they only had 1 scrimmage. Need to get healthy and learn to fight thru some of the injuries. Lets face it, football is contact and once you start hitting you will have injuries that you have to learn to play with.Steely Dan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 9:28 pmThe JB "experiment" went on for two years too long. Coaches are doing a very good job. Practices are well organized and productive.
Looking forward to watching the 7/8 graders play their first home game this Wednesday at 6:00 vs Frontier.

I get it that I ain’t so pop wit the Belpre fans. But it ain’t and never was about the fans. It’s about the boys in the hood that we call the locker room. Them boys are the reason the program is still improving. We revived a J high program that had zero players and got some out. Now they gots enough for a whole team. Just axe them boys and they tell ya. How bout give them some credit for turning the thing around. Not some ole guy that comes in to reap the benefits. Here’s to them Belpre boys in the hood who stuck it out. JB says BELIEVE!

How do you revive a JH program with 8 players? (only ONE OF THOSE KIDS ARE STILL PLAYING) Go “Believe” somewhere else.

We took it from zero to 8. But it looks like they lost 7 of them already if what you said is true. Hate to hear that. Them was some good boys. Could be really filling out the roster now if they would have keeped them on the team.UncleRico05 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 11:50 pmJBsezBELIEVE wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 3:55 pm I get it that I ain’t so pop wit the Belpre fans. If you really take pride in saying you filled a roster with 8 warm bodies, seven of who didn’t “believe” they were football players then good for you. Keep beating your chest thinking you actually did something good for Belpre football. I’m sure your Parkersburg recruits still “believe”JBsezBELIEVE wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 6:10 amWe took it from zero to 8. But it looks like they lost 7 of them already if what you said is true.
