Burg has regressed the last few years. Coaching has passed them by. Offence is terrible. You don't need a stop watch for this bunch use a hour meter. Time to pull a Portsmouth and dodge big name teams.
To be fair, Shaun Terry and Kayden Edwards going to make most defenses they play look slow. But yeah, Burg is probably over-scheduled for this year and should look to lighten future nonconference schedule (take harvest prep off for sure).
Burg should get better as year goes on, but did you see anything tonight that would lead you to believe they can compete with Ironton or Harvest Prep come playoffs? Not sure I did. But then again, I said same thing in 2021 and they knocked Ironton out of playoffs after losing to them 41-7 in regular season opener.
As for the offense, seems to be a real identity issue. All these kids predominately have run the spread since peewees. Hard to decide in one offseason that you now want to be a power running team. But given how rough the passing game has looked against real defenses, they might not have a choice.*
Beating IHS or HP? No.
As for the offense, the identity crisis is in its fourth year. And you are right, can’t just transition from spread to power eye in an offseason. Should have been a change made in the system years ago, but I digress.
They still can run out of the spread and even showed some success early on. After the long TD drive, Burg should have come back with the same approach. Instead, they decided to come out slinging the ball. Absolutely the worst decision they could have made given recent results from the last possession, time on the clock, current score, etc. Anyone with a football IQ above 5 could see what they should have done. Instead, they did the exact opposite.
Finally, did you see how Kasky eased his QB into the game? Very well played. Meanwhile, Burg has their QB scrambling around the backfield firing the ball late over the middle. That’s how they eased him into the game!
