Steubenville beat McNicholas 18-16 in Steubenville. Ill take McNicholas 24-14 over Wheelersburg in week 2 Hall of Fame Coach Saccoccia for Steubenville s a legend, plus McNicholas was up 9-7 going into the 4th quarter.

Big Red a Div 3 school this year has been to the state finals the last 2 years. Big Red is a seasoned big time football in Ohio,McNicholas seemed to hang right with them.
Re: Burg at McNichols
Here’s the write up on the game.
- McNich was balanced on O with around 150 yds rushing and 150 passing.
- Steubenville put up over 400 yards of offense; 223 in the air and 195 on the ground.
- McNich moved up to D3 this year.
- McNich is expecting to challenge for the region, partly due to the players they bring back but also since the they moved out of the D4 meat grinder (in that region) and the top D3 schools moved up to D2.
- As for who they bring back: they will be similar to last year’s team with a number of top offensive players back. Expect them to have a nice O with a suspect D.
Finally, for those coming to Cincy for the game, The Turf Club is the place to grab food pre-game. Best hamburgers in Cincy!

Re: Burg at McNichols
My opinion is a 0-4 start for Wheelersburg then to the SOC when probably 6-0 or 5-1 which was the typical schedule recordfor years, when they bumped up schedule, if Burg didnt have a movein or 2 each year they start 1-3 or 0-4, so if they would schedule down they go 10-0 or 9-1. My opinion is I would play a stronger schedule and play better competition and take my lumps and go 6-4, but playing better teams who have better skilled players and maybe knock one off on occasion. So happens this year the first 4 teams are loaded and the SOC is still the same average teams at best. To blame the Coachs on every play that you dont like is crazy. Go get a teaching degree and start your resume as a assistant Coach somewhere and then we will critique your play calling. Maybe hire all the ones calling out the Coachs here as your staff.

Burg has been scheduling Ironton and Jackson for a very long time. IHS has a winning record against them but Jackson does not; most of Jackson’s success has come of late. As for scheduling outside the area, Burg has always done that as well: MAC schools, Cabell Midland, Martin’s Ferry, etc. Also, back then, the SOC teams were better and more competitive.
In the late 80’s, Burg played Versailes (a small school powerhouse) three times in a row during the playoffs. And although Burg was 1-2 in those games, all three were very competitive and could have went either way.
Today, Burg would most likely go 0-3 against Versailles with the games not even being competitive.
So what changed? Did Versailles get bigger? Nope. Did Burg have better transfers/recruits then? No, since Burg had closed borders in the 80’s with no transfers. Only change has been in coaching styles at Burg.
So your argument about talent doesn’t hold up. And expecting Burg coaches to maintain Burg’s success is not out of line. Ed Miller was held to a very high standard, why should other coaches not be held to the same standard?

The Tigers will have plenty of opportunities for "credibility" this season. Their hopes dont rest on burg. Burg is mediocre however.packers80 wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 2:45 pmYou are discrediting your winJawnjkang98 wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 12:18 pmBurg is mediocrewobycat wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 11:56 am

Watching the Ironton game I couldn’t help but think how hard the pirates would be to stop if they lined up in the wing-t and had misdirection and never know which RB is getting the ball. Works fine in the MAC and at least this year they have the personnel to run it.

Re: Burg at McNichols
Burg had a rough game against Ironton but Ironton is truly loaded this year I would not rule out a Burg win this week they need to fire off the ball and eat the clock up.
And they have the horses to do this learn from the Ironton game and move forward.
I can see Burg winning ugly but winning with a 21-14 game.
