Re: Athens (2-0) vs Marietta (2-0)
Marietta’s front can keep them in this game. I’d also take them to be more physical than Athens. Athens will score, so Marietta has to be able to score more than they have the first two weeks. I’ll take the Tigers, though.

From what I have heard, the Tigers need to score more to have a chance in this one. 13 or 10 points isn't going to cut it in this game.

This will be the key for Marietta to win. Sustain and FINISH drives, while keeping the Athens offense off the field for as long as possible.
Re: Athens (2-0) vs Marietta (2-0)
Don't need to score a lot of points when you've got the best defense in SE Ohio.

Re: Athens (2-0) vs Marietta (2-0)
Interesting game. Logic would say Marietta needs to score more than they have, and I would agree. But I've watched a lot of Marietta-Athens games in recent history, and Marietta has physically pushed Athens around along the lines of scrimmage in most of them. I expect the Tigers to try and sustain long, punishing drives and keep the ball away from the Athens offense.
Will be diving into this one tonight as its the MOV Gridiron Game of the Week, looking forward to it.

Give me Marietta and the 24 points that Pasteur is giving them. Rooting for the Tigers of course but have a feeling Athens wins this but certainly not by that spread.

Reportedly Athens has that “unstoppable offense” back. You know, the one that had nothing to do with Burrow and the other eight or so D1 players running it. It’s been on hiatus since those players graduated but apparently it’s back. So I’d say Athens in a route.Wildcatone wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 5:43 pm Give me Marietta and the 24 points that Pasteur is giving them. Re: Athens (2-0) vs Marietta (2-0)
We'll see just how unstoppable that Athens offense really is this week against the best defense in SE Ohio. MHS has only given up 12 points. One TD on a fluke hail mary at the end of the 1st half and another in which we gifted Morgan a short field. Also completely shut down the best running back in the OVAC last week.Ground Buck wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 7:37 pmReportedly Athens has that “unstoppable offense” back. Hammer Marietta +24.

That spread up pace offense has shown its head a few times since that special group. 17(38pts a game,18(45pts a game)19(34pts a game)Ground Buck wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 7:37 pmReportedly Athens has that “unstoppable offense” back. Obviously that offense with Joe and those weapons was absolutely silly those years.
As for the game I think it depends on who gets the better start. Marietta strikes me as a team that wants to control the clock and punish you with long sustained drives. Athens while on paper looks like a running team by the stats is really a push the pace run and gun philosophy. I do think Athens actually potentially has the bodies to be in a street fight for once but still need to see it.
If Marietta finds themselves having to throw the ball I think Athens can roll them but if it’s a slugfest in the trenches I’m not sure who wins. History shows this is a close one that will be decided by a few plays.

If that offense is that good why haven’t they been using it?Brownies1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 10:37 pmThat spread up pace offense has shown its head a few times since that special group. 17(38pts a game,18(45pts a game)19(34pts a game)Ground Buck wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 7:37 pmReportedly Athens has that “unstoppable offense” back. Does Marietta High School still play their home games at Marietta College?
Re: Athens (2-0) vs Marietta (2-0)
It’s still about the Jimmys and the joes as much as it is about the X’s and O’s. Don’t quote me but if memory serves me correctly Athens had really small graduating classes from 2019 till this year. Most of these SR’s got playing time as FR and it wasn’t because they came in as studs.Old Shorts wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 2:45 pmIf that offense is that good why haven’t they been using it?Brownies1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 10:37 pmThat spread up pace offense has shown its head a few times since that special group. 17(38pts a game,18(45pts a game)19(34pts a game)Ground Buck wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 7:37 pm
