WK 3: Unioto (1-1) at Waverly (2-0)

Post by smurray »

Waverly jumps out to a 21 lead against Zane Trace and wins 28-7 to improve to 2-0. Unioto drops to 1-1 with a 21-27 loss at Amanda. Waverly with a couple key starters held out much of the 2nd half banged up. Tigers need to clean up penalties and bad snaps to be a really good football team. Who are the real Unioto Shermans?

No idea who Unioto is right now, they beat a very young and inexperienced VC team that won't go .500 and then go and get beat by AC. I know nothing about AC other than they've been down for quite a bit but they're sitting at 1-1 right now and ran all over Unioto. Waverly isn't running all over anyone this year between the RBs just not being named Hurd, a very young line and the inability to get a snap cleanly the running game is going to take some time this year if it ever gets going. Unioto has to decide if they want to be a passing team or a rushing team personally I think they're better when they lean on the run and throw it 10-12 times a game. Think it'll be closer than expected as AC could be a wakeup call for Unioto but Waverly still takes this by 2 scores, waverly just has a ton of talent on the outside and a 3 year starter at QB.

After watching Waverly Friday, they are OK. They have good skilled kids at WR and QB. The running game and line looks to be a work in progress. They ran a lot of no huddle.

I think this game will be close.

Unioto has some issues that I’m not sure are solvable. They have a young QB so there will be growing pains. Their RB and best tackler is out for the year so they have 0 RBs and the secondary has nobody who can tackle 1 on 1. Also their line is decent but their best 3 lineman have to play both sides the entire game because they have 0 line depth so they get to be dead tired by the 3rd quarter.

A secondary that can't tackle sounds like trouble against Waverly's receivers

I hope Waverly gets to work on that O-line this week. Most of all have that young man work on snaps all week. It will take a lot of practice, but he can get there if he puts the time in. #10 is Waverly best RB by far, (Kid is a beast)
He is going to be a problem for Unioto tackling. Tigers will run him for 200 yards up the middle I'm hearing this week.

Hate to hear that Unioto is hit by the injury bug. Have to think without a running game that Cutright and Hoops are going to have to continue to give you big plays in the passing game week 1 Caden was averaging 50 a catch week 2 he was putting up 30 a catch love his ability to make plays after the catch. Blake is consistent catching the ball and keeping drives going and he finds the endzone. Hope they can get together and bounce back this week with Waverly This is a huge statement game for both teams

Think this is a much bigger statement game for Unioto than Waverly. Waverly’s statement game this far was week 1. I think that will be their best opponent until wheelersburg, west won’t be a statement game I don’t think at this moment but will be a mental hurdle for the Tigers to get over. Not saying Waverly will be undefeated going into the matchup with wheelersburg but I believe that is turning into the expectation as things are starting to unfold. I think Unioto can give the Tigers trouble if they come out and play mistake free and Waverly gets complacent. This game has kinda turned into a little non conference rivalry, so won’t be surprised if this is closer than what it looks like it should be on paper.

The road team has won the last few matchups between these two (maybe the last 4?)

Unioto needs to limit turnovers and drops, as those were killers against AC. The first TO was clearly a batted down pass that was inexplicably called a fumble, but the others can’t happen. Sophomore QB without a lot of help from the running game and that’s bound to happen, but I believe Coy will just get better and better.

Unioto has to be able to run the ball to open up the passing game to have a chance, although defensively they haven’t faced a real passing game like they’ll see on Friday.

Everybody knows the Waverly offensive line would be a work in progress. Even with that, the Tigers were able to pick up 2 very nice wins out of the gate.
I believe the running game improved week 2 but that was against Zane Trace. Miami Trace was much better.
The amount of high snaps against ZT, particularly in the 2nd half, def disrupted the Tiger offense and is something Waverly MUST correct this week.

The Tiger defense has given up 1 touchdown in the 2nd half so far this season, and that was week one.
It could be a long night for Unioto if they can’t run the ball.

The visiting team has won the last 4 games - Waverly needs to break that streak!!

Going to be an uphill battle for the tanks. We have trouble defending anything right now. On offense we don’t have many ways to score if we can keep them under thirty and manage to eat clock we have a good chance to keep it respectable if we can’t then it could be a huge blowout.
