SOC Football
SOC Football
Is the SOC (both divisions combined) the worst conference in the state of Ohio at this point?
There's the BURG....then there's everyone else!

Re: SOC Football
Based on what?? Do you have detailed knowledge of every conference in Ohio?? I sure as heck don't, so no way to answer this question especially in week 2.

Re: SOC Football
I don't know if they are the worst conference in the state but they are pretty bad shape right now.
Burg 0-2
west 0-2
valley 0-2
Minford 0-2
Oak hill 1-1
northwest 1-1
Waverly 2-0
sitting at 4-10 is a rough start for sure for them.
The smaller conference is slightly better on the win side but not great.
Question is can Waverly continue to win ?
Can West and Valley and Minford turn it around ?
Can Wheelersburg not lose confidence and get to 5-5 and make a run in the playoffs.
Oak Hill and Northwest will strive to hit .500 I believe.
Not down grading any team but the SOC isn't looking great right now

Re: SOC Football
Not many teams around here would have won the games Wheelersburg lost, so their 0-2 start is very deceiving.
Waverly 2-0 with 2 pretty good wins. Week 3 will give us a better picture of Waverly and Wheelersburg.
We can agree, the rest of the SOC 2 appears to be down.
But to say it’s the worst league in Ohio may be a stretch.

No,
It’s not the worst conference in the state. You also have to look at the last 20 years as a comparison because every school in this conference may have had their best runs during that stretch:
Wheelersburg: 3 State Semifinal Appearances and a State Championship
Minford: An SOC2 Championship and more playoff appearances than any other time in their football history
Valley: Multiple SOC2 Championships and a State Semifinal Appearance
West: Multiple Playoff Appearances and SOC2 Championships
Waverly: same as West with arguably some of the best receivers in school history
Northwest: Multiple SOC1 Championships and making their first playoff appearance and winning their first ever playoff game
Oak Hill: Multiple SOC1 Championships, making multiple playoff appearances, and going 10-0.
Again, this going back 20 years. Not every conference goes through such a massive upswing almost simultaneously at each school. There’s going to be backsliding from such dominance. The SOC2 is on a downturn but to call them the worst conference in Ohio is a very serious stretch. Many of these schools would compete this year with the majority of quite a few conferences in the area, including the TVC-Ohio, TVC-Hocking, SHAC, SVC, OVC, just to name a few.

Re: SOC Football
Unless you are the MAC, rural small town high school football runs in cycles, and the SOC is not exempt. For small rural schools it is always a numbers game with the pool of available talent. Even The Burg.
Perhaps we might be better off looking at how far the SOC and SEO has come in the last 30+ years. Better facilities and on average, better coaching and training.

It’s only game 3. Valley has lost to 2 OVC teams. Minford has lost to 2 OVC teams. West has lost to 2 OVC teams. I’m not sure but it appears most are of Scioto County is having a down year. It’s all relative and cyclical.

Re: SOC Football
A teams record after 2 games doesn't define how good a league is.
I would put Burg up against anyone in any conference around here. Ironton may win state and Cincinnati Mc is top team in state as well.
Waverly just beat FAC front runner with Miami Trace.

Re: SOC Football
not sure about state wide, but this is for sure the worst the SOC has been the last 25 years (at least).
