I can’t see wheelersburg ever starting 0-3. I think this game will be close. I’m going Jackson but it will be close and won’t be surprised if the pirates squeeze out the win.

Essentially the only points left on the board for them to grab as I don't see them beating HP, and I don't see them getting any significant points from SOC opponents.
Back to back week 1 and 2 mercy rules straight into a week 3 must win vs a team that has had ya number is tough business for burg. When you say ya cant see burg goin 0 and 3 to start the season are ya saying that based on the burg name or the product they have on the field this year?

I have Jackson by 14. Burgs offense is lost. Jackson isnt any more dynamic than burg, but they have an identity offensively. Burg does not.

Jackson 21
Burg 6

SOC has lost so many non league games that I don’t think a 6-0 league schedule would be enough to get the Pirates a home game. Lose this one and they are staring at 10-13 seed.

I agree. As of now Fairland would be the best team in the SOC if they were in it instead of the OVC. OVC thus far, is better than the SOC overall and head to head. Not a lot of points on the table for burg after Jackson and Prep.

As bad as burg has looked, they are the best team in the SOC and would be the best team in the OVC. It’s not even close. I’ve watched Portsmouth, Rock Hill, and fairland all play.

I have not seen Waverly play but I’m assuming burg would win that match up.

As far as this game, it’s going to come down to whether burg can stop Jackson outside runs. That’s the key. I do believe the offense will get better and they will put points on the board. I think they will put 28 minimum. But if they can’t stop the run, this will come down to who has the ball at the end.

Two things. 1. I do not think burgs offense can get to 28 on jackson

2. I think Fairland vs Burg would be a toss up favoring Fairland. Burg can't score. Fairland can.

Fairland couldn’t put up as many points as Portsmouth could in the west games. Burg played Portsmouth in a scrimmage and burg was the better team in the small sample that we had. Burgs offense is better than what people think. It’s their strength. They just haven’t found what is going to work but they will. Burg isn’t just going to fall apart.

I’d be stunned if Wheelersburg scored 28 on Jackson.

Both teams were gassed against Ironton in the 1st half. The better conditioned team, and deeper bench, wins. Jackson looked quick in the first half, until Ironton's pounding wore them down.

I do not see any indicators that burgs offense is their strength. Elaborate?

I dont think you would classify burg or jacksons as athletic or fast this season, but Jackson does have an offensive identity & burg does not.

I think Burg needs to set up the pass by establishing a running game. Once they have success running the ball they need to start passing and never go back to the running game. That should help.

You can't coach a milk cow to win the Kentucky derby.

I like that. if you dont have the talent and dont recruit the talent then you arent going to be able to beat and in the case of week 1&2 even compete. Burg needs to rethink what they are doing schedule wise. no reason to schedule teams you have no chance of beating or even competing against.

There’s multiple flaws in this statement but one of the biggest is around “can’t beat teams with better talent.” I agree if you take the top D1 or D2 schools against D5 and smaller schools. Numbers and talent become issues for competing.

But that said, take a look at the top 25 ranked Ohio teams. ML and Kirtland are both on this list despite not having anywhere near the talent as other listed teams. In fact, ML and Kirtland have nothing like Ironton’s talent, but Ironton would struggle against these two teams.

Also, consider this past weekend, Coldwater went to Clinton Massie and gave them a massive butt kicking. This despite CM being the larger, more talented school; CM even gets transfers from local D1/D2 schools. Yet Coldwater beat them like a rented mule.

So what magic do these schools have to compete against far more talented teams? Why are they able to do what Burg somehow can’t? Even more important, why was Hilliard Davidson able to win in D1 using Burg’s old school style of play despite being at a massive talent disadvantage? And why does Burg avoid this style of play even though it has been proven over and over to work?

Finally, this Burg team is not as devoid of talent as many claim; I’ve seen Burg teams with much less. This junior class had been very successful coming up the ranks and was considered Burg’s next best class, yet here they are struggling. Again, what went wrong?
