Sign Stealing
Thought I saw a thread about this previously but couldn’t find it so thought I’d start one. With all the hype last year about college teams stealing signs I’m curious if there are high school teams doing it. Legally of course. Are there any teams out there putting effort into this?

I remember back when Ralph Holder would send people over to steal signs from Jack ORoarke. That was part of why Belpre was so good back then. Holder always knew what he was about to see.

There was an SOC team that used two people with iPads to record on the sideline and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s part of what they were doing. The rule used to be you couldn’t review anything recorded during the game but those two people always went into the locker room. Not sure if the rule is the same or if they’re still doing it.

Back in the day our kids used to spotlight deer. They made some great jerky. Along with that, they may/may not have taken possession of a few stop signs but it was all in good fun.

Bill Belichick has nothing on Arch Rose. Arch stole signs using a whole system he invented. Thats why he went 10-0 and was #4 in the state. He sent Richard Gagai to everyones game and used the scientific method to decipher their signals. Then Arch invented a system to let QB Mike Bissell know what was coming so that he could call the perfect play every time. Those were the days.
That system is so good that it still works. Its why we beat Southern all the time. Every Eastern coach has access to Arch's system. They get the signals and then counter with the perfect call. The only one who wouldn't listen was Casey Coffey. That system has been really good the last few seasons against Racine. Cassady's signals are super easy.

1980-82.....the glory days of Southern basketball. We almost did it!
Re: Sign Stealing
HS football, and sports in general, isn't that important. Those willing to cheat and/or bend the rules for a "W" speaks volumes about those running the program. Way to set a great example!!
Re: Sign Stealing
The worst time in Belpre football history was when VC figured out what Belpre was doing. Once they did they made changes to prevent the sign stealing and beyond that they spread the word across the TVC and that’s when the downturn began. Ralph stepped down shortly thereafter. Hasn’t been the same since. It’s a shame that the secret got out if you’re a Belpre fan.Eagle Pappaw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 11:23 am I remember back when Ralph Holder would send people over to steal signs from Jack ORoarke. Roll forward 30 years and the table turned. We figured out everyone had our signals. That a reason we couldn’t beat nobody. Found out too late.eagle25 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 5:55 pmThe worst time in Belpre football history was when VC figured out what Belpre was doing. Arch Rose and his ability to snag signs from the sideline was the top reason why North Gallia always struggled with EasternLucky Charms wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 2:49 pm Bill Belichick has nothing on Arch Rose. Right. That gave Arch time to steal signs and then signal to Mike what was happening. Arch made Mike look like a guru.Undefeated_Eagle wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 6:53 pmMike Bissell called his own playsLucky Charms wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 2:49 pm Bill Belichick has nothing on Arch Rose.
