Well with Woodward also being the AD, who gonna tell him what to do?
Woodward’s earned right to be there as long as he wants in my opinion, but agreed, time for him to make some changes to his staff.*
Let’s start with the fact that Woodward is a great guy. Truly respect him as a man and what he has done for Wheelersburg.
As AD, he obviously has a lot of power, but he also has a budget that is dependent on football revenues. That revenue will take a hit if the program continues to decline making his job difficult.
The football program is not in a great place, not just because of the losses. It’s what we are seeing on the field: lack of discipline, lack of conditioning, no offensive identity, lack of enthusiasm, etc. This is simply not Burg football, and Woodward is responsible for what we see.
Burg lost to 3 great teams. What are you even talking about
Three great teams? Ironton is a great team this year, the others are good teams. Wait until the playoffs are over, and let’s come back to this specific point.
As for your question, allow me to explain:
Let’s just take Burg versus Jackson. Overall, Burg leads the series 15-12. That might sound good, but Burg has lost the last five games. So prior to 2019, Jackson had only won seven times in 22 games against Burg. Since, they are 5-0.
And if you look at those five games, the first thing you see is that Burg lost four of them by less than one score. Four close losses! And when you look even deeper, you see how many mistakes Burg made in those losses. Wasn’t as simple as “Jackson just beat them.” Burg contributed to their own demise by making more mistakes than Jackson in every single one of these games.
Extrapolate that to some of the losses to IHS and HP (over the same time period) and you see a Burg team that has become very good at beating themselves through turnovers, penalties, poor play calling, poor time management, lack of half time adjustments, etc.
Burg is not a disciplined team. Burg is not a well-conditioned team. Burg has no offensive identity. In summary, Burg has typically not looked like a well coached team over the past five seasons. This is not Burg football. Clearly a decline in performance.
Also, it’s time to come to the realization that Burg could go 5-5 and even miss the playoffs. They should sweep the SOC, but with this O, it’s difficult to be too confident.
