Week 4: Caldwell @ Monroe Central

Post by raindelay »

Thoughts on this one? A win here for Caldwell would most likely be big for their playoff hopes as the back half of the schedule is pretty tough.

I’m intrigued by this game. It’s hard to tell how much Monroe has improved from last year with their schedule so far. This game will tell us a lot.

Monroe has speed and size at Wr but do they have anything in the trenches?

MC's schedule has been a breeze for the 'Noles but a dangerous team thru the air. Caldwell impressed me beating Waterford by 2 TDs.
As Caldwell coach, Rucker is 3-0 vs. MC averaging 59 ppg. Monroe lost 9 of last 10 to CHS.
Important for both in Region 23. Would think a spread of 6 points one way or the other. Best game of the night IMO.

Chief Jay is up in the booth helping now and Coach Schuerman is back on the sidelines coaching the defense. I like MC in this one.

Caldwell coach still got them boys believing. I’m going with them for that reason. Can’t win if you ain’t believing but you can beat anyone on a given night if you believe.

If it’s close Caldwell wins. They’re better on the line of scrimmage. MC has the better skill kids this year with Herlan out for Caldwell. If MC gets off to a good start they could out athlete caldwell, if they don’t the experience Caldwell gained over the past year should help them pull it out. I expect it to be a great game.

Coach Calder has completely turned around a program that went 16-32 from 2018-2022. Since he’s been head coach, MC has been 10-4.

MC/Woodsfield is 48-35-3 all time vs Caldwell. I think that MC wins but gets their First team that challenges them.

MC’s opponents are 1-8 right now. MC is averaging 53 points per game while giving up an average of 6 points per game.

Caldwell’s opponents are 4-5 right now. Caldwell is averaging 29.33 points per game while giving up an average of 11.66 points per game.

He has gotten them moving in the right direction it seems. I know nothing of the job he’s doing but MC seems to really have some athletes right now after a talent dry spell. I read somewhere that Caldwell has won 9 of the last 10 in this series which is wild to me with the history of football in Woodsfield. I did a simple max preps search, they’re 10-5 between last year and this with the South Galia win last year as the only win over a team with a winning record. Friday would be a big win for MC if they could get it. I for one hope they do not! Go Skins!

Gotta go with Caldwell in this one. Caldwell has a nice line and QB. They have played well after dropping the opener to a good Trail team.

Drew Pasteur has Caldwell by 8. But he had us beating River last week by only 4, when in fact we won by 46; so I think it's too early in the season to rely on the algorithms.

Going with my heart and the Noles by 2

Yeah, that Drew Pasteur has been pretty successful in his predictions, but I like what the top pct. guys in the Wheeling paper pick.

MC by 10+
MC line is much improved and too many weapons on offense.

You may be right but i’d be surprised if the MC line is the better of the two. A year ago Caldwell dominated up front in this matchup and 4 of the 5 kids are back. Monroe’s advantage i believe lies in the skill position kids. Howell is a great athlete at QB, if they win i believe it will be because they don’t have an answer for him. I expect MLB Crock to lay the wood to him, if he responds they’ll have a great chance, if he doesn’t Caldwell will win.

Caldwell’s line is solid, but I’m hearing this is a different Monroe squad. I used to circle this game every season I played. I can remember the war chant being played the entire week at practice. Monroe is a tough place to play. Coach Rucker will have these boys ready. It’s going to come down to turnovers and execution. This game will be close without a doubt. I’m going with my gut and taking the Skins in this one 21-14. Go Skins!

Gonna go with a close one. I’ll say skins 27 Noles 21. Good luck and good health to both teams
