Valley had a big hold on a Waughtel run that cost a first down. They still had time. Waughtel had struggled the last few weeks and I thought they did a great job of taking care of him. Without the hold I believe Valley wins the game. It was a tough break.greygoose wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:25 am Man, this sounds like one of those what if games for Valley. I was shocked when I heard 27-21 and I started listening on that final drive there's no way I would've thought Valley had a chance especially without McNeil. Sounds like they might've stuck to the game plan for a little too long on that final drive and started cutting it close on time though but hats off to them on a hard-fought game. For Waverly I don't know what to think it's really looking more and more like the Miami Trace game was nothing more than a fluke and right now there's no way they could play with MT. Luckily they got them in week 1 but Waverly just has a lot of issues across the board, they've got to stop trying to throw it deep sooo much especially when the QB doesn't have any time to throw it. Young in the trenches so OL and DL play was going to struggle all year long and no running game to support the offense. Good Luck to both teams going forward.

Valley will be fine. Once they figure out how to win by eliminating miscues, penalties, etc..., the Ws will come. No one wants the team to win more than the kids busting their butt's off year round, and coaches putting in mega time to make it happen. The staff is young coaching at the HS level. There is a learning curve for all! Whining, crying, demeaning and belittling anyone associated with the program will not fix what ails.
Re: Waverly at Valley
Valley football has been down for almost 10 years. If a coach came in and made significant improvements, and I saw the same effort being given by the kids that I do now, then I absolutely would support a different coach.Hoopster98 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 5:44 am Valley just can’t get over the hump. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but my question is… if this was a coach from the outside would they support him like they do Coach Crabtree? Some people get really defensive when you talk about the staff and is that because they are close friends with the staff? Just wondering if they would get defensive over someone else?
I have said this before, Valley has numbers but we have no depth. Go back and watch the film. Coal Grove score 3TDs immediately after we made subs.
Everyone gripes about the last offensive series against Portsmouth. They ran the ball on first down to set up a FG, so they could take two shots at the end zone on 2nd and 3rd. We had a false start on second down. The next two plays Valley had less than 2 seconds to throw the ball. Waughtel was running for his life, and we took two huge sacks.
No play call would have worked in those situations. So to further answer your question. If another coach would have made the same calls, and we would have executed just as poorly, I wouldn’t be blaming the play calling.

I do agree he has program going in right direction. Valley simply isn’t the valley it used to be due to previous years of bad numbers. I was just stating it seems when someone makes a comment about coaching his buddies on here get defensive.
Re: Waverly at Valley
The ones that you say are defending the staff have every right to do so. If you know any of the staff personally, you’d know they are very approachable and will talk to you about specifics on what and why….
That’s why the ones defending him do so.
I don’t have control over your computer or phone. Nobody is stopping you or anyone else from saying what you see or think. That’s what these sites are here for. But I or anyone else also has the right to state what we believe.
When I see the blame game start, I just try to say what I see or hear afterwards.
As you say, you understand that this program is “going in the right direction” you understand the “previous years of bad numbers”
If you understand these things, then good for you.
There will be better games ahead.

I just listened to Coach on the sportsline and some people should feel foolish with their comments. That was a tremendous interview.

I’m not saying anything bad about the staff and never once said you couldn’t defend him. Valley is in good hands with Coach Crabtree as the head man. If Valley was winning and he made those same calls then nobody would be complaining. People do have the right to state their opinion about staff without others getting defensive. I once made a statement about the valley defense giving up a lot of points and not making adjustments. All I got was the d coordinator is a good person and works hard. That’s good and all but that doesn’t always translate to being a good d coordinator.

On sportsline yesterday Coach Crabtree said he had a significant knee injury and would miss a lot of time. On the Wheelersburg thread someone saw him in a brace yesterday. Does not sound very good.twoboys-02 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 2:34 pm Has anyone heard anything about McNeil. How long is he out for
