Just for clarity’s sake, Trae Williams ran for over 2200 yards and had 44 rushing touchdowns. Yes, they threw a lot, but they could’ve run it 50 times a game with him and Burrow and still been really, really good. Ironton is on another level, but Athens was all-time good in a great football state. Would like to be able to see Terry on that Athens offense, though.Bleeding Red wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 6:20 amI think this Ironton team is much more balanced than that Athens team offensively.

Re: Ironton vs. St.Francis of NY.
I think ironton is just that good this year. St Francis is good but ironton was better. St francis would beat most teams in our area but since ironton beat them they were terrible. I’m not a ironton fan I’m a Portsmouth fan but the hate Ironton gets is ridiculous. They replaced bad teams and beefed the schedule and people still have stuff to say. Transfers who cares it’s 2024 that’s the way it is sadly. Tell the coaches to help recruit these kids and maybe they will stay but they are on social media and see the college visits, the gridiron classic and get to meet kids from different states and play them that’s pretty rad. They are fun to watch and hope we give them the first loss of the year week 10. The terry kid is unreal btw.

For a team like Moeller 5K probably is but a drop in the bucket but for certain schools that's a nice pay day. I know for a particular team playing in it next year it's really big.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 10:19 pmThat doesn’t seem like much, but some of these schools are always looking for games; for Moeller, the drive to SEO is one of their shorter trips. Plus, $5k is better than zero.greygoose wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 10:09 pmDon’t know if larger schools get more or not but I know of a team that was offered 5K this yearRBH23 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:13 pm
Ironton is very good, but they aren’t beating Moeller. That’s physically a different animal, especially in the trenches. And although Ironton has serious speed, it’s nothing special compared to what Moeller sees nearly every week. Their schedule is extremely tough for a top tier D1 school!
As for the Ironton classic, I’m impressed that Ironton gets teams to this. Herbstreit did something similar but with truly the best teams in the country. Wasn’t able to keep it going financially. So to get teams to travel long distances to southeastern Ohio (not a place many even know exists) is quite the accomplishment. Would be interesting to see the dollars each team gets.

Re: Ironton vs. St.Francis of NY.
I think we all know the answer to that. Ironton is one of the best offenses in the state, regardless of division. Not taking anything away from them at all, but that Athens offense was the best high school offense I’ve ever seen. Having a No. 1 overall pick and Heisman winner running the show is hard to compare to. 2014 Athens is the highest scoring single season offense in OHSAA history for a reason. And yes, their regular season schedule was easy. But they put 50+ on GOOD teams in the D3 playoffs.artisgilmore wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 12:22 pmDid Athens win state that year?beg003 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 9:49 amJust for clarity’s sake, Trae Williams ran for over 2200 yards and had 44 rushing touchdowns. Terry would’ve been the most explosive receiver on either team, though. And Ironton defensively is probably better. That said, I’d love to see Ironton win the whole thing. They’re going to be a handful and then some for just about everyone. Terry would play for anybody in the state at WR. He’s the definition of a game-breaker.

Re: Ironton vs. St.Francis of NY.
I think it is poignant to point out that nobody is comparing 2024 Ironton to 2024 "superior coaching and culture" "homegrown" burg. Instead they have to compare them to burrow and Athens during their run.
And going forward the Ironton/burg comparison is ridiculous. These two programs have completely different trajectories and burg can never ever be anything but lil sis. Lets move on from that comparison. They aint like us and never will be.
Ps. The blackout Uni's were FIRE!!!
Ironton is playing a lot cleaner this season and have patience & balance on offense.
Ironton defense are ball hawks.
Ironton HITS as Cus D'amato said.. "with bad intentions."

I asked my buddy connected with Moeller about this. He said Moeller football is a break even business. They don’t own their own stadium and must pay rent for their home games. Also get nothing from parking, concessions, etc. Lots of fundraising for anything the program needs. This is what o thought but wanted to confirm.
So the $5k is not a lot but probably better than what they get for many of their games.

Very strange move. He played against Cabell-Midland last week and considering he transferred from Huntington to Ironton I am surprised he would have left the team

100% and I’m guessing that’s most teams. Here’s my question with the Ironton classic and maybe they’re in league play when do we get to see a MAC schoolRBH23 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 2:12 pmVery curious about the financials…

Rumor is he said he would rather get the ball 30 times a game and lose than get the ball 5-6 times a game and win. Heard he wasn’t happy with his playing timeJeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 2:19 pm

Re: Ironton vs. St.Francis of NY.
I heard Moeller and the NC school were offered 10K each. Also heard two other schools were offered last minute to relocate their game to the 4:30 slot for 5K each, but the home team refused. darn shame because a young man put himself into the OHSAA record books that game on Friday. That would’ve been fun to see in Ironton.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 2:12 pmVery curious about the financials…

Re: Ironton vs. St.Francis of NY.
MAC only play one or two non conference games and they wouldn’t give up a home game for that. Ironton would have to play them home and home for them to schedule.greygoose wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 4:18 pm100% and I’m guessing that’s most teams. To each their own. This is proof that even if Ironton gets transfers it isn’t all what it’s chalked up to be.

Re: Ironton vs. St.Francis of NY.
Also was THE ONLY transfer on the team this season. Ironton has punked every team in the area. Even got burg crying and wanting to drop em. Props to Jackson for never whining and playing Ironton and making no excuses win or lose. Programs like Wheelersburg could learn a lot from Jackson about having heart and guts. Burgs program is not built on those things though and it shows this season. The transfer excuse is a nice way to say we don't like being outworked by Ironton. Bitter pill that seo is gonna have to swallow. Ironton Coach wants to win games and prepare young men for an opportunity beyond Ironton, Ohio. Burgs coach wants to still be invited to whatever daddy ball country club is popular in the land of milk and honey. Burg needs a football coach & instead has a politician.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 5:01 pmBigSpoon wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 4:47 pmRumor is he said he would rather get the ball 30 times a game and lose than get the ball 5-6 times a game and win.
