MVL Week 5

Hard to believe that we are the midway point of the 2024 season! Here are our week 5 games for the week. This week will paint a strong picture for the playoffs and league championship.

Tri Valley @ New Lex. TV has looked dominant and NL looked human against good competition last week.
Sheridan @ John Glenn. Huge game for JG to keep playoff hopes alive. Region 11 is too tough and they won’t have many level 2 points.
Meadowbrook @ Philo. 2 very different styles of play. Both are at 2-2 and need a win to keep playoff hopes alive.
Crooksville @ Morgan. Can Morgan get their first win of the season?
West M @ River View. West M will take out their frustration on the Black Bears.
Coshocton @ Maysville. Better question is who throws more passes in this one? Will be the shortest game of the week.

Playoff outlook

Tri Valley looks to be able to run the gauntlet and finish a perfect 10-0. IN
John Glenn NEEDS a win this week because they still have TV on their schedule. With their lack of level 2 points combined with a treacherous Region 11, 7-3 is probably out of the playoffs. IN with a Win, OUT with a loss
Sheridan is in the same scenario that JG is. They still have TV on the schedule. 7 wins would likely guarantee them in because they will accumulate more level 2s than JG, 6 wins is a very low chance. IN with a win, OUT with a loss

New Lex seemed primed for a first round home game with a weak Region 15. Big games with TV and Sheridan still on the docket. 8-2, 9-1 may be enough for 2 home games. IN
Philo needs a win this week with the 3 big dogs still looming. 4-6 is not guarantee, while 5-5 is. IN
Maysville on the outside looking in. TV, NL, WM all still on the schedule. Need to upset MB and beat Coshocton, Crooksville. OUT

West M will coast the rest of the way after a very tough weeks 2-4. They’ll finish 8-2 and probably finish in the 6-10 range, but as long as they don’t match up with Ironton or Prep will win 1-2 playoff games. IN
Meadowbrook likely needs 6 wins to get in, 5 would need help and travel to a top 2 seed. A win this week would be HUGE! They’ll get to 4 with Maysville and Coshocton and would need to find a way to beat 2 out of Philo, JG, NL, and WM. Lose and they are likely out, win and they will need to get 1 more to be in.
Coshocton needs to get 4 wins just to have a chance to get in. That means they have to upset 2 out of Maysville, NL, MB, WM AND beat River View and Crooksville. OUT
Morgan likely needs 5 wins to get in and currently have none with WM, JG, and Sheridan left. Would have to beat Crooksville, Philo, and River View then upset 2 of the other 3. OUT
River View might have the toughest schedule in the league while being one of its weakest teams. They’re 0-4 having lost to Garaway and Tuslaw while still having WM, Sheridan, TV, JG the next 4 weeks. OUT
Crooksville needs 6 wins to guarantee a playoff spot, 5 maybe. Either way, they limp into the playoffs to face a top 3 seed. With Morgan, Coshocton, and Maysville on the schedule, it’s possible. A win this week keeps their small hopes alive, while a loss has them out. OUT

Off topic - Does any of the MVLschools provide free streaming besides New Lex? WM charges. Morgan was free for basketball last year.

Drew Pasteur's website has been a fun addition to my rotation of H.S. Football Information. As the season progresses the predictions and algorithm he uses gets more sound. Obviously weeks 1-3 some teams are starting to take shape and you can see where the season could go. I feel after week 4 his stuff is starting to solidify. Any rate this is how he has the matchups.

There’s been talk for 2-3 years of JG adding bleachers out and up, as well as concessions and restrooms but every year when it comes that time nothing happens. Not sure what the deal is. Initial plan was to move the softball field but Title IX issues due to the turf outfield make a move extremely expensive.

Muskingum is very nice post-construction but has very little seating (only slightly more than current JG). The pieces are there for JG to have a nice facility, just need some upgrades.
