Week 5: Portsmouth (3-1) @ Coal Grove (3-1)
Battle of 3-1 teams that both lost to Greenup Ky. This imo is a battle for who will finish second in the OVC behind Fairland. Very similar teams. Play defense and run the ball. Between the 2 I think Portsmouth has shown they can throw the ball but not all that well. Battle of 2 good RB’s. CG coming off a blowout win over Chesapeake, Portsmouth coming off a spanking they handed to Gallia. Everyone’s thoughts?

I'm going with the Grove in this one.
It could be a shootout with neither one of them tackling well.

Game could be done in under 90 minutes for how much running will be done

Winner of this sets up the championship game as the underdog vs fairland.

I don’t think coal grove is a threat to throw the ball and Portsmouth’s run defense is not bad. I think Portsmouth takes it in a close game but I hope the Trojans shut them out so we don’t have to hear that cannon go off. But it’s usually a high scoring game.

Coal Groves line play really stood out last week. I know it’s usually a high scoring affair with Portsmouth. I think whoever commits the least mistakes wins.

Portsmouth by 14-21.
Fairland & Portsmouth are by far the two best then there’s a major drop off.
Coal Grove is much better than the bottom 4 but don’t believe they are close to the top two.

I think Portsmouth wins this game somewhere in the area of 42-28. I don’t think Coal Grove will be able to shut down Heiland. I think the Portsmouth defense will be able to make the plays and control the LOS.

I hope to see the Scioto County team bring home the W

This should be a tight game. Cheering for the Lawrence County team in this one.

Portsmouth in a shootout and will still continue to drop in region 19. I checked today and they are 14th.

Just about the time that I think that I've decided who I think will win this game, I then change my mind again. Oh well, let's just hope that both teams have an injury free game.
Re: Week 5: Portsmouth (3-1) @ Coal Grove (3-1)
I think Portsmouth is the better team, but not by a ton. Very similar teams, run the ball and stop the run. I look for Portsmouth to maybe try and throw the ball a bit and test that Coal Grove secondary.

I’m no mathematician but I think when you beat teams with wins you move up, especially if they have more points than youBeergogglebluez wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:48 pm Portsmouth in a shootout and will still continue to drop in region 19. I checked today and they are 14th.

that was me being sarcastic a bit. The teams we beat have a combined record of 2-10 and won’t get much help from south point and peake. Need to beat fairland. I just want to see a home game one time.HamPorter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 3:47 pmI’m no mathematician but I think when you beat teams with wins you move up, especially if they have more points than youBeergogglebluez wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:48 pm Portsmouth in a shootout and will still continue to drop in region 19. Valley moved the ball through the air against coal grove a few weeks ago. Look for that to be the defining factor
