Re: Could Ironton be competitive with any team in the state?
Not sure you get how good the MAC is. It’s easier for teams to win state than it is to win the MAC. Example: Versailles has won D5 state title since joining the MAC, but they have not won the conference.
Next week, Versailles, one of the top D5 schools, will get steamrolled by Marion Local. Coldwater, who will finish second in the MAC, beat Valley View 38-0 and Clinton Massie 31-15 (that game was 28-0 at the half).
The MAC schools and Kirtland are some of the best small town football teams in the country.

ML is probably a top 10-15 small school in the country. They'd give 90% of Ohio programs a lot of trouble.

Tigers will roll Versailles if they play in the playoffs.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 2:43 pmNot sure you get how good the MAC is. It’s easier for teams to win state than it is to win the MAC. Example: Versailles has won D5 state title since joining the MAC, but they have not won the conference.

If they can make it out of the region then we will see. If harvest prep can’t throw the ball at all they have no chance vs Versaillesartisgilmore wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 3:07 pmTigers will roll Versailles if they play in the playoffs.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 2:43 pmNot sure you get how good the MAC is. Prep isn’t going to double your guy either they will just play zero and come after your qb. I’ve seen ironton this year but not prep, I would put ironton top 5 in d5 but ima put prep above them till I see them win

Perkins beat prep.Ironton beats Perkins by 2 touchdowns.

And Perkins would beat Ironton by 100.artisgilmore wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 3:37 pmPerkins beat prep.Ironton beats Perkins by 2 touchdowns.
See, anyone can just make up stuff. But was is the rationale for your claim? If you say “Ironton’s schedule”, that would be a dubious claim given that Perkins has more computer points than IHS.

Any team? No.
Are they the best in D-5? Maybe, I wish them the best and hope we find out.

You’d be surprised how many d5 teams compete and beat D1 and D2 teams in Ohio.artisgilmore wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 1:47 pm Don’t like comparing scores, but Ursuline lost to Walsh Jesuit by 2. Jesuit in the power rankings are 5th in the state. We beat Hartley a little worse than Ursuline. And yes Jesuit I think is D1.Don’t let divisions confuse you.

Yes, but not the top D1/D2 teams.wobycat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:12 pmYou’d be surprised how many d5 teams compete and beat D1 and D2 teams in Ohio.artisgilmore wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 1:47 pm Don’t like comparing scores, but Ursuline lost to Walsh Jesuit by 2. Re: Could Ironton be competitive with any team in the state?
This year they could beat ML.
As far as playing Moeller and St Eds & teams like Toledo Central idk. That's a lot to ask. I'd love to see this years team play ML, Kirtland, Coldwater....Prep. Barnesville......etc. etc. This years defense & O line are better than any season under Pendleton thus far imo. They have gotten better at things they needed to get better at. And they are very good otherwise. And there is STILL potential for better. It's a high ceiling in D5 this season. All about execution. The talent is there.
Re: Could Ironton be competitive with any team in the state?
I have seen Ironton. I don’t think you appreciate how incredible the MAC is in football.artisgilmore wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 5:12 pm If you haven’t seen Ironton play,I understand your skepticism.
Let me give you an example: Hartley played Coldwater in 2013 for the state title. Coldwater won 24-7.
However, in the MAC conference, Coldwater had two losses including a 47-14 blowout loss to ML.
If Hartley played in the MAC, they would have zero chance of winning the conference even though they still would have won D4 state title in 2016. Football is just at a different level in that part of the state.

Ironton would probably finish 3rd in the MAC this season. Hartley would be in the lower half.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 6:04 pmI have seen Ironton. Re: Could Ironton be competitive with any team in the state?
Ironton is legit. Would win the MAC. But they will have to struggle to win the championship even though they are the favorites in my opinion
Re: Could Ironton be competitive with any team in the state?
We could go around and around over this. No way to prove it.
That said, consider this:
- Versailles is currently ranked #5 in D5
- Versailles is #2 in their region, and the favorite to win it.
- Versailles has five conference games to go. Will get crushed by ML and most likely lose to Coldwater. At best, will finish 3rd in the MAC.
- Any of their remaining conference games could be loses. Possible for them to finish 5-5.
- Even if they don’t win another regular season game, they will still be a favorite to win their region!
That’s how insane that conference is.
