Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
Biggest game of the year so far for both teams. Can’t underscore enough how important this game is for both teams’ playoff points. With an Athens win, they go a long way toward securing a home game Round One, and a likely undefeated regular season, as I don’t see them being challenged after this week. Warren, on the other hand, can catapult themselves up the R11 rankings with a win.
This game is good on good. Athens is dynamic offensively, while Warren has given up very little over their last 3 wins, and only 14 defensive points to Morgan in Week 2. TVC teams have fared poorly against the Warriors since 2019, losing every game in that time period. This Athens team will be the best TVC team Warren has seen since 2018 Athens. I think Warren matches up well with them. Cressey v. Martin will be a great matchup. Betting odds would probably be Warren (+6.5) and I would take them to cover that spread with the very real possibility of getting the W.

Warren will most likely need to beat Athens or Fort Frye to make the playoffs. This region is loaded.
Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
It is. It may not matter who makes it, though. I saw Watterson highlights versus Chardon and they ran Chardon off their own field. They are a serious problem. It’s them and then everyone else in the region right now. Pound for pound probably one of the best teams in the state.EasternDspy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 10:36 am Warren will most likely need to beat Athens or Fort Frye to make the playoffs. Good luck to both teams this week.
On a side note, I will be heading to Athens later this season to watch them at their place for the first time.

Definitely. Depending on how the final 4 lays out, those could easily be the two teams playing for the title in D3.Raider6309 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 6:41 pmWatterson will beat everyone in the region by a running block but all roads go through Toledo Central Catholic in D3beg003 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 10:43 am It is. This one possibly has the makings of a very good ballgame. I would still have to give the edge to the Bulldogs, especially it being a home game.
Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
If Athens doesn’t beat Warren this year they might not ever beat them. It’s starting to look like there’s some sort of voodoo going on that prevents Athens from winning this game. Can Athens break the curse and prove once and for all that they really do have some kind of magical unstoppable offense? Or will Warren continue their winning ways against there old SEOAL rivals?

Athens has won every matchup since 2012. Teams haven’t played since 2018. The talent level between the two has evened way out the last few years.*D1* wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 5:34 pm If Athens doesn’t beat Warren this year they might not ever beat them. Dang, sounds like you’re conceding all ready. I guess I should have included basketball in my post as well as the rest of the TVC teams against Warren in football. Does that help?beg003 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 5:56 pmAthens has won every matchup since 2012. Teams haven’t played since 2018. Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
Don't let this fine matchup distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.
Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
Athens should win easy. They have much better quality wins over Philo and Marietta than Warren, who only has one winning team on their schedule - .500 circleville, whom they barely beat.
Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
Not conceding a thing. Should be a good game. Just putting facts out there. Athens was on the schedule at the height of their program. I don’t recall many southeast Ohio teams beating them regularly. Not sure what basketball has to do with anything*D1* wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 6:13 pmDang, sounds like you’re conceding all ready. Prior to the season, Warren had this one marked down as a W and predicted two 8-0 teams heading into the fort Frye game. I believe they may be backpedaling on that prediction at this point. Athens should win by at least 2 scores.
With that said, Warren should be 6-2 heading into what should be the TSL title game against the Cadets. Still a great year for the warriors.

@beg003 I believe D1 has you confused as an Athens poster. Not Warren. That should clear up the confusion.

I totally get why Athens is the favorite in this game, I really do. I just remember worse Warren teams than this one beating VC teams that had TVC title hopes and the threads going something like this. I’d be surprised if this isn’t a really good game. Athens has Leo Martin, Warren has Tanner Pepper. To me, they cancel each other out. If Pero plays, that’s a difference maker. Defensively, Athens wants to play in space. They worry me anyway, but I’d be much more concerned if they were going to line it up and run right at us. Just my take, and again, I get where you’re coming from.Dundas wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 6:53 pm Prior to the season, Warren had this one marked down as a W and predicted two 8-0 teams heading into the fort Frye game. As a VC supporter, those teams that lost to Warren were good not great. They weren’t clear cut TVC favorites. (Maybe in our eyes they were) Realistically they were just solid. This Athens team should beat everyone in the TVC by at least 4 scores. That’s why I feel the way I do. I think this Warren team would be 2nd in the Ohio by 2 scores over everyone else. Athens is just that good this year, imo. Way better than any VC team over the last 3 years.beg003 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:19 pmI totally get why Athens is the favorite in this game, I really do. This is why they play the game though. Would I be shocked if this game was tight? Absolutely not. Playmakers on both sides of the ball is all you need. Turnovers, mistakes, blown coverages, could all be a factor and WILL be a factor. Warren won’t lose by 30 but if Athens plays like they have, I just see them pulling away by a 28-14 type score.

I can respect that take 100%. Will be interesting to see how both teams come out after winning by some lopsided scores the last two weeks. The speed and intensity of this game will be up several notches from the preceding weeks.Dundas wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:33 pmAs a VC supporter, those teams that lost to Warren were good not great.
