HP actually rested 14 starters last night to make this game close. Okay I made that up, but it fits in with the rest of this thread as a bunch of inaccurate information. Seems like Burg has improved, as I doubt HP has gotten worse. I think a 6-4 Burg team in the playoffs is very dangerous.

Burg played to their strengths. If they can do that, they have a chance to upset someone in playoffs, especially if they get some of the kids they lost. Two starters won’t be back.

Very proud of the Pirates! You are gonna be alright. Run the table the rest of the way and get into the playoffs. Then, anything can happen.

Great showing by the Pirates. The talk of their demise was foolish, or wishful thinking.

Prep looked shakey to me a cpl weeks ago vs Ashland. Didnt get to see this game but i predicted a 14 point game so it being close didnt surprise me. Prep has moments ( especially on offense) for whatever reason, where they seem to get outta rhythm and make mistakes. Its been with em all season. Didnt get to see or listen to any of it tho cause i seen no stream or radio broadcast in this forum for that game which really surprised me. One of burgs biggest games too. Seems like the burg fan base has kinda cooled on their 2024 team on this forum. Thats unfortunate especially after observing how supportive the Fighting Tiger fans are for their kids. Those burg kids deserve a more excited fan base for sure. Feels like the seops faction of the burg fan base is more passionate about talking about Ironton. Lol. That is unfortunate also. Good win for burg. The soc is a cakewalk so they should work their way up to being a .500 team and maybe 6 and 4 after 10 weeks.

Congrats on confirming my suspicion that Ironton is better than Harvest Prep this season. Go win a playoff game or two so my Tigers can hang another running clock on ya. Lol

The demise of Burg has been near since Miller left, according to some. It is foolish and wishful thinking.

That said, Burg’s current O performance remains a trouble spot. Defense did incredible holding HP to 12 points; their lowest point output this year. But the O wasn’t able to capitalize and put up the least amount of points in a game that HP has given up all year.

Woodward needs to take a serious look this off-season as to why the O continues to haunt Burg football. And if someone says “lack of athletes”, go back to last week’s game and check out the one handed grabs by two different Burg receivers. They have the athletic talent that should be more productive on offense.

Not a bad showing at all for Burg last night. After McNich game, I had some real questions about leadership on that team. But starting with the Jackson game, they showed that the effort is still there, especially on defense.

As RBH pointed out, offense still an obvious issue in big games. They scored 7 against Ironton; 3 against McNich; 17 against Jackson; and 6 against HP. That just not enough production in big games. I really thought the defense would be the issue for them before the season!

At end of day though, Burg going to finish 6-4 (as most in the know predicted) and win another SOC championship. Could/should there be some changes? Maybe to the offense/offensive staff, but other than that, not much has changed in Burg. Ironton just being on a whole different level this season got some Burg fans’ expectations out of whack. Sometimes you just gotta tip your cap to the opponent*

Making a great catch doesn’t make you an athlete. Burg has no one on offense that scares anyone. They may be able to make plays against the valleys, nw’s and I’m sure oakhill this week but not against good teams. They can’t make anyone miss in open field, can’t turn on the speed to get the edge, they just don’t have playmakers. When running the offense they seem determined to run, you need a few playmakers.

I'd pick Burg over Fairland or Barnesville records aside. Barnesville is taylor made for Burg. But vs Ironton Prep or Columbus Academy? Nah.

Actually the catch Evans made is a textbook example of athleticism. Grip strength, jumping ability, coordination, and dexterity…. All traits associated with being athletic. And not many could make that catch like he did.

Now I admit that Burg doesn’t have IHS talent, but that’s always been the case. No team D5 and lower has athletes like Ironton. No one.

That said, Burg had the athletes to keep HP at their lowest scoring game this year, so it would make sense that those athletes should be good enough to score more than 6 points.

But you did nail it with regards to the offense Burg runs. It is absolutely the wrong offense for their personnel. They stuck with the run against HP and gave themselves a chance to win. Too bad these kids haven’t been developed as a heavy run offense. Coaches are too in love with the spread which doesn’t work against better athletes.

Burg is not outta the weeds. They could easily drop one they are not suppose to. Its important for them to really lock in the rest of the way. One more drop & its 5 & 5 or worse. Careful what ya wish for. Root for health & focus. Avoid a 1st round week 11 at Tanks at all costs. Would not be pretty.
