Hartley’s wins have come against teams with a combined record of 4-14. They are not the best private school in Columbus this year like in past years. It is also laughable when people say we have the strongest schedule because the computer points are based off of teams you beat and who they beat. Obviously, that isn’t true as well because you are #4 in the region… THE REGION. This isn’t even the whole division. Who is above you?? Prep, Columbus Academy and wait for it… FAIRLAND!!! You may want to act like you are the IMG of Ohio but Halloween isn’t for a few weeks away.
Fair enough. Fairland is better than Ironton. Let’s make a friendly wager. Name your price. I’ll take Ironton next Friday. You can take Fairland. The better team playing at home. Easy money for you.
I’m not the one who brought up the SOS and rankings. Do I believe Fairland will beat Ironton?? Doubtful. My point is that you don’t have the strongest schedule in the division. You aren’t the best small school in Ohio either. I can assure you if, and that a BIG IF, Ironton makes it to Canton then I will be there to cheer them on. Can you give me the same assurance that you or your fellow fans or coaches will not give every excuse as to why it isn’t your fault when you lose the next game?? You lose because that particular team is just better on that particular night. Just be thankful that Kirkland and Coldwater is in D6, this has helped your path a bit. Call and schedule them next year because I bet you won’t!!

Hartley is no longer a quality win? ROFL
Hartley is just 3-3 so no they aren’t a quality win. Try again! You would also like to say Midland is a quality win since they are a large WV school BUT they haven’t won a game. Both teams have a new coach. Just throwing out a name of a HS doesn’t mean that particular school has a good team for that particular season. Prep has an open week this week but here you are going to a 1-4 small school in Kentucky. Prep has shown they are scared of anyone with their schedule.

how bout the fact I have the living memory of when Hartley would repeatedly whip both Burg and Ironton's butts with massive belts for all of Ohio to see? Many of those years, the Hawks had a couple of losses in pocket when they came down Route 23.

But they're not a quality win, now!

Buddy if you’re asking me to predict what the entire town of Ironton will do, not sure that’s a prediction I can make. We have a bunch of dumb rednecks here, who knows what they’ll say. Here’s what I can say.

Ironton’s schedule is amongst the toughest in D5. Not sure if it’s the toughest, but who cares really. It’s tough enough to prepare them for the playoffs.

Harbin points cannot be used to measure strength of schedule. A win over Northwest is worth more Harbin points than a loss to Moeller. Hell a bye week is worth more Harbin points than a loss to Moeller. Which game would make your schedule tougher? Not the one that gives you the most points.

If Ironton loses in the playoffs, I will say it’s because the other team deserved to win that game on that night.

Marion Local holds the small school belt until proven otherwise. They might hold the all schools belt soon!

I would call Kirtland and Coldwater to schedule them but I don’t have the authority to do it. They would be fun road trips though!

If Ironton does make it to Canton, I will be there rooting for them too. Thanks for that!

No ones acting like IMG, there isn’t a school in Ohio that would come close.

As long as terry is on the field, irotnon will be the favorite to win every game they play in D5. He makes calling plays for ironton coaches too easy. You cant stack the box because you have to have outside support for his jet sweeps. Which opens up easy zone reads. Schreck just needs to read it well.

They have a luxury that most dont have. The key to beating irotnon is to run the ball and hope you don’t have to punt. A team like liberty center could give ironton some trouble. Prep doesn’t have the discipline to beat ironton. Barnesville or burg would be more of an upset threat to ironton i think. Both are running teams and better coached.

Ironton has the #1 strength of schedule in D5. Wheelersburg and Midland has drug that down. They have blown everyone out but Clarkson North who no one in D5 would even schedule let alone beat. Jealousy and hatred is an awful thing in the land of Milk and Honey. Liberty center has played no one good. Liberty Center hasn’t even played a Hartley. Who just about beat the #1 D3 team this past week in Bishop Watterson
#1 strength of schedule? Ironton is currently #11 in D5 computer points so not sure that SOS is legit. Also not sure why you called out Liberty Center, but they have more computer points than IHS.

As for “no one in D5 would schedule Clarkson North”, you do realize Harvest Prep scheduled Pick Central? Also scheduled Sandusky Perkins and Cincinnati LaSalle? That’s quite the schedule!

With regards to Hartley, yes they came within 15 points of Watterson, but also lost by 31 points to Ursuline. They even gave up 28 points to 1-5 Elyria Catholic. Will probably finish below .500.

So yes, Ironton has a very good team and a great shot at state, but they aren’t the only team playing tough schedules. Definitely do not appear to have the toughest schedule even in D5.
Who would you say has played a tougher schedule?

Team A
@ D4 Coventry
v. D5 Sandy Valley
@ D3 Marlington
@ D4 Northwest
v. D4 Orville
@ D4 Canton South

Team B
@ D1 Pickerington North
v. D1 St. Joseph’s Prep (PA)
v. D3 Boyle County (KY)
v. D1 Elder
v. D2 Massillon Washington
v. D4 Cleveland Glenville

Now, anyone who knows anything about high school football would say Team B. I’d venture to say that every team on Team B’s schedule would beat every team on Team A’s schedule by 4 to 7 touchdowns on a bad day.

Team A is Akron Manchester. 11.75 Harbin points.
Team B is Lakewood St. Edward. 11.03 Harbin points.

Harbin points don’t measure strength of schedule. If you played the top 10 teams in the state and lost each game by 7, you’d have 0.00 Harbin points even though you’d be playing the toughest schedule possible. You’d be a good team, likely to be 6-0 vs. Team A’s schedule so far. But your Harbin points wouldn’t reflect that. Computer rankings would.

At the end of the day, Ironton will be in the playoffs and will have the chance to prove themselves against the best. So it’s all talk until then.
What you said is true except there is one major flaw in your argument: Ironton has only lost one game and is still #11 in D5 for computer points.

Take HP and IHS. Both have the exact same record 5-1, but HP is #1 in the region while Ironton is #4. Looking at their computer points, the teams HP has beaten have won more than the teams IHS has beaten; and by a significant gap.

In a situation like this, it is a good measure of schedule strength.

Harvest Prep is 5-1 against a really tough schedule. It’s been tougher than Ironton’s so far I would think. But Ironton will finish with more points. Which doesn’t mean much in terms of schedule strength, Harvest Prep still plays LaSalle while Ironton plays nobody on that level. Even if Prep wins, Ironton will still likely top them in the Harbin.

What you stated above about HP’s schedule so far is my point, but Pasteur has their SOS #6 in D5. 🤦‍♂️

As for them finishing behind IHS, it really depends on beating LaSalle. HP wins that game, they will finish #1 in the region. Especially if Pick Center finishes well. Ironton doesn’t have a Pick Central or LaSalle on the schedule.

Ironton’s wins over Fairland and Portsmouth would keep them ahead of Prep even if Prep beats LaSalle.

But overall we are splitting hairs. Both teams have played a tough schedule. Both teams have a chance to win enough games to settle it on the field. Those points will matter way more than Harbin points.

That we can agree on. Will definitely come down to those two teams. IHS should be the favorite. HP has the athletes to complete but not always the most disciplined team.

Maybe you should worry about Burg winning out and not about who has the tougher schedule.
West is no push over neither is Waverly.
Ironton needs to win it all this year I will admit that and if they do they may win it for the next couple of years.
Yes Terry is special but this is not a one horse pony show this is a very deep Ironton team and the best is yet to come.
And Ironton will continue to work to play the best teams win or lose they will try to play the best.
Love it or hate it.
It is what it is The Burg Ironton game is great money game but if you believe rumors Burg wants to quit the series I don't believe that till it happens.
If it does then I wish them nothing but the best but ducking a team that is less than 20 minutes away because they are to strong in the same division is truly sad.

Talk about jumping all over the place. LOL!!

First, gotta love an IHS fan who comments on Burg threads yet basically tells me to quit posting on an Ironton thread.

Second, this is not about love/hate. Was just discussing SOS and the validity of Drew Pasteur’s rankings versus computer points.

No one is attacking Ironton, so no need to get offended. All good :)

I’m very surprised many think Ironton goes on a trip to Pikeville and hammers them. Pikeville is a very good team with one outstanding kid. Not saying Ironton doesn’t win but that’s a long trip to a team that’s used to playing the big boys and seems to improve as the season goes on every year .

I was looking at Pikevilles schedule and every team they’ve played outside of George Roger’s Clark has been to or won a state title in the last few years. I don’t know where GRC ranks in Ohio but they show around 1600-1700 kids 9-12 so probably would be a d1.

Up until this year ironton was one of the most penalized teams that I have ever seen ever. .Granted so far this year they have been much better but I'm not convinced that this is a permanent thing just yet

May not be, but what we’ve seen so far is a much more disciplined team than in the past. Will see if that holds through the playoffs.
