Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
It’s simple really. Let’s get into this. PHS up with 30 seconds to go. Don’t play prevent. You have stopped a high octane offense most of the night and now you are playing not to lose. U let us drive the ball 70 yards in under 30 seconds. Thanks for helping us make the 1st place in the region. Don’t forget the no called fumble on Portsmouth last drive. Terrible call but none the less the OVC stays in Lawrence County. Keep crying Trojans. We can hear you all the way down here in Rome township!!!!
Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
I think the BS pass interference moved the ball 70 yards. Get it right. Last time I checked, if my shoulder hits the field, I’m down, so how would that be a fumble? I hope we run into you during the playoffs. Drew Skaggs & company won’t be able to help then.Dragon551990 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 1:08 am It’s simple really. Let’s get into this. Not only bad calls but a lot of no calls. They need to do better. That being said both side had to play the game within what the refs called. This is what I do know! Chase Higland is a Beast. The way he came out in the second half and put his team on his back and carried them down the field was something to watch. He has a heart of a lion. The other thing I know is Fairland Won that Game. Way to keep playing boys!

Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
If only it were that simple. I won’t even say you’re wrong, because you’re not. Had Portsmouth made the stops they aren’t put in that tough spot. With that said they didn’t, credit to the Fairland wideouts because they made the plays on what was actually pretty good coverage. But there’s no way around it that the play should’ve been blown dead on a forward pass. It hit the ground, whistle blows and it’s over. The whistle didn’t blow though, they let the play keep going and Portsmouth entered the field. Had no outcome on the game out all, but the flag because of that makes sense. Doesn’t make sense to not blow the whistle on an incomplete pass though. You can celebrate the win, it was a hard fought win, wasn’t really earned fairly though. The OVC is staying in Lawrence county, maybe with some black and white stripes attached to it now with a hint of green. All that ugly orange is gone now though lol. If only things were simple kid, if only.Dragon551990 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 1:08 am It’s simple really. Let’s get into this. PHS up with 30 seconds to go. Don’t play prevent. I also want to say this thread could’ve gone off the rails and didn’t. Kudos to everyone on here. Lots of opinions and emotions but level heads prevailed. Everyone so far has kept it respectful and I think that’s big from both schools. Nobody likes to lose, somebody had to in this game. On the scoreboard it was Portsmouth, but I feel like everyone not in a black and white striped shirt lost.

There is an official shortage because of fans and coaches. People who officiate games that played or with years of experience of officiating are scarce. What you have now is guys doing mostly for the money. This is the result of people constantly running good officiating off.

The officiating was really bad, both ways all night. A majority of the game it was in the Trojans favor. It did get worse thru the night tho and benefited Heiland is a stud. Hes gone for nearly 1000 yards in his last 3 games vs fairland. Keegan Smith had the play of the night on the hailmary. Kid catches anything thrown at him.

Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
How can you say that when Portsmouth has 15 penalties on their home field? It wasn’t in their favor lol. Sure the false starts are obvious but some were 50/50 calls and they sure did call them. But these guys mainly the same guy couldn’t wait to throw a flag on Portsmouth. I seen him reach numerous times to his belt like he was going to throw more. He was too busy throwing flags to find his whistle on that 2 point conversion lolStolenTalents12 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 6:50 am The officiating was really bad, both ways all night. Again, that’s on the school’s and who they hire. And, not sure I’d call this a big game.

It was quite literally the OVC title game. I’m not sure it gets any bigger than that lol.Dgowdy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 7:38 amWrestlingFootball wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 1:38 amWell they need to change things up when they know it’s a big game coming up.

Massive game lol, for the OVC, that win guarantees Portsmouth a home playoff game, Fairland was looking for revenge from that playoff loss last year. I’m not sure it could’ve been any bigger.unclequis wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 7:52 amIt was quite literally the OVC title game. Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
Well quite a mess to finish out the game, I didn't watch the entire game so no idea how it was throughout. On the Portsmouth final drive that was 100% a fumble by the QB that the official ruled down and ball was recovered by Fairland no ifs ands or buts about that one easy blown call. Final drive for Fairland that was PI on the DB he makes contact with the WR while he was in the air and never attempts to locate the ball easy call there. From 30 yards out with 1 play to go why didn't Portsmouth just put 7-8 guys between the 5 and the goal line?? Moving on to the 2 point conversion the 1st attempt should've been blown dead as that was a forward pitch and incomplete pass. Sideline warning, now someone watching or was there would have to help out was Portsmouth assessed a sideline warning earlier in the game? As that's not associated with a yardage penalty until the 2nd time and last I checked I didn't think sideline warning were assessed until after a play there's no replay of down.

Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
Feel terrible for our Trojans that the supposed victory was ripped away from them. There should not have been a 2nd two point conversion......no justification for giving the Dragons a second chance. Any objective person who saw the end of the game knows what I'm talking about.
Shame the game ended in that way, because it actually was a well played game throughout by both teams.......both of whom will see the playoffs.
Very impressed with how the Portsmouth O-line took charge in the 2nd half, with Chase Heiland and Nik Copley grinding out runs, and Landon Malone making a clutch catch on the Trojans' go ahead drive.
The Fairland QB is very good......throws a nice catchable pass and the receiver that caught the TD to make the score 21-20 outfought the PHS defenders for the ball.

Hate seeing any game affected by the officials, but this was for the OVC championship! Agreed with what other have said though, at least it was bad both ways.
Hopefully these two meet up again in the playoffs as it’s clear Portsmouth and Fairland are pretty close in terms of talent.*

Agree 100% it was definitely a fumble and Pass interference.greygoose wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 9:28 am Well quite a mess to finish out the game, I didn't watch the entire game so no idea how it was throughout. Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
100%, the 2nd two point conversion attempt should've never happened. This absolutely cost the Trojans the OVC title and a major hit to the playoff seeding. A win against Fairland and Rock Hill would've easily solidified a home game if not a possible top 4 spot.trojandave wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 11:00 am Feel terrible for our Trojans that the supposed victory was ripped away from them. Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
So this might rub the Portsmouth faithful a little but there is a video from the wide angle floating around social media showing the flag. So the side judge called it and he was 100% correct in the call. A kid came on to the field on a live play. He doesn’t determine any play outside of his area. He’s not going to determine whether the ball should have been dead or not.
Having said that, a seasoned official may have turned to the kid quickly and said get off the field. I think the kid would have. He was just celebrating. The biggest gaffe was allowing the play to continue from the ref and ump. I also think the referee crew could have picked up the flag after a conference to discuss the play and say that the penalty did not count because the play was actually dead after the forward pass.
The fumble was bang-bang. I can see it being missed. That’s why college and nfl plays get reversed after replay.

Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
The refs made a bad call and thought wall fumbled the ball instead of pitching it forward. Play should have been blown dead. But it wasn’t so you have to keep playing and you can’t run on the field until the final whistle has blown. Both teams had to play through a lot of bad calls/ no calls all game. Fairland Deserved the win, they earned this win. But man that number 2 for Portsmouth deserved a win too. Wow what a player.
Re: 5-1 Portsmouth vs 6-0 Fairland
Was it the right call without the play being blown dead yes, should the play have been blown dead also yes. Could things have been changed after a conference also yes. These things can sadly and are sadly all be true at once. I’ll tell you what though, if Portsmouth can clean up the penalties and play hard defense like last night they’ll be just fine. Time to move on to Rock Hill. Congrats Fairland
