You’re not wrong.

Burg fall sports state rankings:
- Volleyball: #2 in state
- Boys Soccer: #5 in state
- Girls soccer: #12 in state
- Football: not ranked

Things have definitely changed in Burg.

Life is what you make of it. Plenty of good jobs in the area. Maybe not like it used to be and maybe have to have a duel income but still a good place to live and raise a family
What are the good jobs in the area, and what companies are currently hiring? Life is what you make of it. I agree the rural areas are a good place to raise a young family. I'm not so sure I'd want my kids going to school where drugs are prevalent.
Hospitals, colleges, paper mill, kenworth, A-plant, state jobs, township jobs union trades
Sadly, jobs are quite limited in SEO.

Around Cincy, a high school graduate with zero skills can land a job in a factory, distribution center, food processing, etc making $25+ an hour starting. Have 18-19 year olds making, with overtime, $60k to $70k a year. And again, that’s with zero skills.

And demand for skilled workers is even more lucrative. Take hospitals: demand for nurses and therapists in SEO doesn’t even compare to Cincy area, and given that, the pay is much higher.

I know for a fact at least in the medical field pay is pretty good in the area because they have to in order to get people to come to the area

Sadly, I think people have just accepted mediocrity in the football program. To many yrs of losing to the same teams. Considered a win now if we just keep games competitive against good teams. No one expects wins against those teams any longer. Will be hard to breakout of this type mentality

Doctors? Yes. Other medical positions? No. Although specialists (doctors) in this area do well. Many do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. Some even only accept cash, no insurance whatsoever.

My wife works in the medical field, and has worked back home and now works in Cincy. She makes significantly more here. And during Covid, she was making about 3-4x what those back home were making.

Supply of medical professionals (nurses, therapists, etc) in this area cannot keep up with demand.

I'm no ironton fan but i think most would agree they now without question have the premier program in southern ohio. Pendleton has owned the Burg. I have never seen anyone suggest he's a great coach and we can question how players end up there and what they might be doing in the offseason to be so much more prepared than their opponents early in the season but he has built a machine with a lot of enthusiasm from within his program and the fan base. They will go as far as their talent will take them. If it comes down to coaching, they will lose. Which is why they usually get embarrassed somewhere along the line. The Burgs at a crossroads. Stay status Quo and continue to fade into mediocrity or make the changes necessary and get back to beating good teams. I dont care who you are, start 1-3 with 2 running clocks put on you, you will lose all energy and enthusiasm in your program for that season. Do it 4-5 yrs straight, it will be very difficult to get back.

Welcome to “Burg is heading to irrelevance” club. Members of this club have been predicting Burg’s demise for decades. Of course it never comes to pass, but the club members keep up their doom and gloom :)

Burg takes care of business again. I’ve seen rest of SOC teams, and I don’t see any of them being with 3 touchdowns of Burg. One-dimensional offenses are not going to beat them.

If playoff seedings go right, do not be surprised to see Burg playing for a Regional Championship just like last season.*

Oh I don’t like the current results, but Burg isn’t going anywhere. Their program does not depend on recruits or a coach that’s willing to bend/break the rules. It’s the culture and people within the community that makes Burg so successful in so many areas. And that’s not changing.
