MVL Week 8

Post by MVLfan »

Just 3 weeks remain in the regular season. Here’s a look at this week games and playoff outlook for each team.

Tri Valley @ Philo. Had Philo beaten Sheridan last week, this would have had a bigger build up as the big school championship, but we’ll have to wait another week for that. TV by 4 scores
Sheridan @ Morgan. Generals roll.
John Glenn @ River View. John Glenn unleashes their frustrations on the hapless Black Bears who have given up 48+ in every game.
Maysville @ West Muskingum. West M rolls. They have outscored opponents 83-0 since losing to NL week 4.
Meadowbrook @ New Lexington. Could be an offensive shootout this week. Will come down to who can get a couple stops. New Lex by 2 scores.
Crooksville @ Coshocton. Crooksville needs a win to have playoff hopes. Coshocton nearly upset West M last week. I think Coshocton gets their first win of the year.

PLAYOFF OUTLOOK
D3
TV has 2 big weeks ahead with Philo and Sheridan. Aside from Clinton Massie, they have scored 30+ in every game. Presuming nobody gets banged up and the Scotties aren’t looking ahead to next weeks game, they will move to 8-0. TV will be a top 3 seed in Region 11. IN
Sheridan has really turned their season around since starting 1-2. They are still on the bubble and will be playing for their playoff lives week 10 against New Lex. They’ll beat Morgan, likely lose to TV, and 6-4 probably isn’t enough to get in. A win week 10 would get them away from the top 2 seeds. CONTROLS DESTINY
John Glenn stubbed their toes weeks 5-6 and ruined their chance. It looks the only way they can get in is to win out, but with TV still on their schedule, that’s not happening. OUT

D4
New Lexington has 2 big games left with Meadowbrook and Sheridan. They look to have clinched a top 8 seed in the weak Region 15. With playoffs locked in, I’m sure goal number 1 is to finally get the Sheridan monkey off their back in week 10. IN
Philo likely finishes the year 6-4 and finishes somewhere in the 7-11 range. They’ll be a problem for someone in the first round and could likely get an upset. If they somehow slip up to JG, they could be looking at a bottom 3 seed and potentially travel to Indian Valley or St Clairsville, or possibly a week 2 rematch with NL. IN
Maysville still has a lot to play for. If they can beat Meadowbrook AND Crooksville weeks 9-10, they could sneak into R15. It seems unlikely, but Clarkey always finds a way to motivate his guys. OUT

D5
West M has clinched a playoff birth and likely a home game. They are going to be a 6-11 seed and just like Philo, be a problem for anyone they see. Region 19 is wide open, as long as you don’t see Prep or Ironton. The way the numbers look, those 2 could be in the same side of the bracket. West could make it to the regional final as a 6 seed. IN
Meadowbrook controls their own destiny. 5-5 might be good enough, but 6-4 would guarantee them a spot to the dance. The issue is they have both NL and WM left and has to beat 1. They can score on anyone, but can they stop either of them. CONTROL DESTINY
Crooksville’s chances took a hit because of some other region teams. They need to win out against Coshocton, NL, and Maysville just to have a tiny chance of getting in and taking on Ironton. OUT
Coshocton nearly got MB last week. They can, best case, win 2 of their last 3 games and finish with some steam. OUT
Morgan is going to be trying to get through this week so they can get their first and only win in week 9 against RV. OUT
River View has scored 6 total points on the year and has given up 56 or more in every game but 1. Same as last week, they need to find a way to get some positive in these last 3 weeks to keep their kids from leaving or not coming back out. OUT

LOCKS: TV, NL, PH, WM
CONTROL DESTINY: SH, MB
OUT: JG, MAY, CR, COS, MOR, RV

I’d say we finish with 5 teams in and 7 out, with Sheridan being the 5th.

Bad first half doomed my Cvile upset pick. New Lex running game was assume. Now for the big one (TV vs Sheridan).
