NY would have beef that they should have to play the game because if Athens lost to RV (despite the odds of RV winning) it could mean NY would get a share of the championship as head to head doesn’t determine winners. Same records just means they split the league title. Is that so hard to understand?MisterGalliaGuy2016 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 4:21 pm
Which means that NY vs Athens will decide the league anyway. So what's the issue?
That's the point.

The same running clock everyone said we would see in the first half at Pikeville? People really need to pump the brakes on this Ironton team. There are numerous weaknesses that need to be addressed before the 3rd round of the playoffs or we won’t see a Regional Championship game without a ticket.

If it would actually happen.. (Which sadly it wouldn't)

And that's why it shouldn't happen. You set a precedence that could change playoff standings. Say a 17 or 18 seed team is getting ready to play 8-0 team they know they can't beat. So they cancel, find a 4-4 team they have a better shot of beating and make the playoff because of it. Would kinda suck for the 16 seed team that didn't make it but should have. Or maybe a middle of the road team gets booted out of a home playoff game or two because someone changed their schedule mid season for nothing more than one team knows they are going to get beat. A team that cancels on a team because of not having a suitable amount of players due to injury is one thing, This would be something totally different.

1. First half malaise. They have sleepwalked through the first half in the last two games. If this continues, getting behind to a good playoff team in the first half could be fatal.
2. The run defense has become very porous and getting burned over the top, especially on 3rd and long has become a thing the last two weeks.
3. Penalty bug has hit the last two/three weeks. This has been great up to the Canada game, then it has gotten a bit troublesome.
4. Kicking game. Lots of missed P.A.T. attempts and two blocked punts against Pikeville.
Enough weaknesses? I’m not a hater, just someone who doesn’t watch through rose colored glasses.
Re: make the switch please, 8-0 Athens v 7-1 Ironton, 0-8 Gallia v 0-8 River Valley
Agreed. To add to your points, the o-line, outside of one player, can not hold up against a d-line like Prep. This has been a weak link in the past and continues to be. The d-line and linebackers can’t stop an impressive run team without pulling the safeties up into the box. If they see a team who can pass and run, it will be trouble.KMG365 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 12:28 pmWeaknesses:Bfan99 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 11:11 amNumerous weaknesses?GoBigI wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 11:05 am

They have seen impressive run teams and great Defensive Lines. I would venture to say Clarkson North and Hartley are as good of run teams they are going to see in D5. Clarkson North, Harley and Pikeville has big physical Defensive lines that are similar to Prep. Most of the games between Hartley and Prep over last 4-5 years have been tight. This is the part of the Ironton schedule where good teams tend to have off weeks. I am confident that the team who played 2nd half last week and the team who played St. Francis is the best team in D5. They are capable of beating anyone that stands in their way.
Clarkson North Canada lost 22-12 to D1 defending State Champ St. Edward yesterday. Watched the game. Clarkson north had chances to win the game but Turnovers in red zone killed them.

They haven’t seen an “impressive” team yet. Clarkson North is an okay team at best. Big doesn’t mean good, especially when big can’t bend their knees. St. Edward is WAY down this year. Massillon Washington torched Clarkson 45-6 and called the dogs off in the 2nd half. Pikeville had 2 wins and Hartley is way down. Keep telling yourself this is the greatest Ironton team in history. I saw a post a few weeks ago that asked if this Ironton team could beat ANY team in the state! They need to focus on improving their weaknesses and take one game at a time.XandOs wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 2:26 pm They have seen impressive run teams and great Defensive Lines. Hard to compare and guess because St. Ed's played with Washington until last minute of game when they broke a 40 yard TD run to win 31-21.GoBigI wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 2:40 pmThey haven’t seen an “impressive” team yet. I never said this was the best Ironton team. St. Edward for as much as they are down would still win D5 easily. They beat St. Joe Prep early in season who is a top 25 team nationally. Hartley played D3 #1 Watterson pretty tough a couple weeks ago. Hartley also just beat Bloom Carrol the other night. I think this is the most talented Ironton team Coach Pendleton has had in speed and skill. They have done pretty well to this point. Before season many ppl like yourself though 6-4 would have been a good record with the schedule. They could be looking at a missed 2 pt. Conversion from going undefeated if they take care of business next week vs a good Portsmouth team. I think you are just a hater and have some pretty unrealistic expectations. Whether you want to believe it or not. Ironton is one of the best teams in the division and the math formulas that the experts use to predict best teams and state champions say so.

Far from an Ironton fan, here, but the Massillon/Football North (Clarkson) point of reference is missing a critical detail: Massillon got to see Football North play a team that knows the game of football.
If FN played those teams in reverse order, Massillon still likely wins by a couple scores. Ironton, who knows, but at least they would’ve had the benefit of seeing FN play a really good team once instead of FN playing back-to-backs of talented yet ‘not great’ teams.

These type of games happen throughout the course of a season. Think about 2002 Ohio State. Purdue should have beat them. How do you almost lose to Purdue but then turn around and beat Miami who was considered the greatest ever at the time. Or 2014 Ohio State who lost some games early in season but by end of year they were Rolling everyone. This is the part of the schedule that’s difficult to stay up for. At end of day, they are all kids and they read the message board crap people post about this team or that team isn’t very good. They just scored 30 points on a team who was previously unbeaten. This was Fairlands Super Bowl. They played keep away worked the clock and had several good fortune plays in first half to keep it close. They were also gifted 2 Turnovers that took points off board for Ironton. The interception thrown, there was an Ironton player 10 yds behind LBs running wide open. A little touch and it’s 6 points the other way. It’s a game of inches.

Just giving you a tip 2016. Inform your players NEVER take your helmet off before going into a bench clearing scuffle/brawl or whatever that was. Also, players to injured to suit up but yet able to rush the field to run their mouths.

Because that wouldn’t make any sense for a regular season game.

Yeah that’s how I presumed they traded film. Eitel shows they only had one loss before Massillon (wk 1 vs Imhotep PA.) That’s what has me confused by the one reply.
