Week 9 : (0-8) Gallia @ (7-1) Ironton

I mean, when you get the brakes beat off of you and want to make a fuss that someone didn’t play a league game, I think you have bigger problems.BlizzardMan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:32 pmYeah because of a freakin pandemic. I don’t think this really compares. You think Wellston is cool just letting them have the league title while skipping out on a league game?

Even worse, NY is in second. My mistake. That’s a big week 10 matchup. They would probably have a beef if they lost but Athens played one less league game. Gotta play them all.

You’re missing the point. It doesn’t matter. You play league games for a reason. Those teams agree to play each other, the same amount of times in all seasons. There are contracts involved. It a what it is.OVC wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:51 pmI mean, when you get the brakes beat off of you and want to make a fuss that someone didn’t play a league game, I think you have bigger problems.BlizzardMan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:32 pmYeah because of a freakin pandemic. So hypothetically speaking, if River Valley cancels, and Ironton and Gallia also gets canceled and Ironton calls Athens, Athens should just stay home and turn the game down, even though it gives them an opportunity to get better?BlizzardMan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:57 pmYou’re missing the point. You’re not understanding. RV can’t just “cancel”. They forfeit. It doesn’t matter what I think they should or shouldn’t do.OVC wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:59 pmSo hypothetically speaking, if River Valley cancels, and Ironton and Gallia also gets canceled and Ironton calls Athens, Athens should just stay home and turn the game down, even though it gives them an opportunity to get better?BlizzardMan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 1:57 pmYou’re missing the point. Not much to say here, just hope there won’t be additional injuries to either team. Was at the little league games earlier and they still are working on the home side. Hope it can be repaired in time.

A lot of what you are saying end up being classified as canceled games. Look at Green- their game with South Gallia is classified as a cancel, not a forfeitBlizzardMan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 2:13 pmYou’re not understanding. RV can’t just “cancel”. They forfeit. But I’m guessing they didn’t just cancel for no reason and schedule another non conference team. They had a reason. You can’t just cancel because you want and schedule another another non-conference game.OVC wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 2:38 pmA lot of what you are saying end up being classified as canceled games. No predictions, but I’m leaning towards taking Ironton in this one
Re: Week 9 : (0-8) Gallia @ (7-1) Ironton
This is reminiscent of Ironton hosting Logan in 1981. Logan came in 0-fer and Ironton lost a defensive starter late in the game due to a blown knee running the ball with the 2’s near the end. Get the lead and let the subs play the rest of the game to protect the starters for week 10 and beyond.

Also, those saying it is a forfeit not to play, not so fast my friend. According to OHSAA bylaws, regular season games that are not played are considered a no contest and do not count in the win-loss record. So, should River Valley decide to cancel, by OHSAA BYLAWS, it is a no contest and, Athens would have the option to seek another game.
As for Ironton’s situation, this is their Senior Night and the homecoming court is supposed to walk due postponing it the night the Stadium was damaged because of the storm. Lots at stake should Gallia Academy decide to cancel.

You are 85% correct. There is a little-known wrinkle, however, in the framework. (It’s little-known because it is so RARELY pursued.)KMG365 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 3:41 pm Also, those saying it is a forfeit not to play, not so fast my friend. The OHSAA has said that in Breach of Contract situations, the canceled upon team is entitled the opportunity to bring forward a dispute to the OHSAA if the satisfaction of damages on the contract break cannot be mutually resolved by the two schools. Usually this is a matter of replacing lost gate revenue. However, there is a provision that allows canceled-upon schools to state they would prefer a forfeit win instead of a ‘no contest.’
The OHSAA makes the final decision on disputes brought forward. I’m aware of a situation in 2021 where Beau Rugg ruled that, yes, the canceled-upon school who brought forward the dispute is entitled to the forfeit win they seek.

Ironton vs Gallia Academy is on and will be played at Tanks Memorial Stadium. Sounds like the stadium is good to go.
