I love this rivalry. If Ironton thinks the Trojans are going to roll over and play dead they are very wrong. This will be a battle from the beginning to the end. I promise if the Trojans pull this out I for one will be the first to congratulate them. Sure I hope the Tigers win but I'm not a sore loser. You bet I'm a hard loser but I'm man enough to give credit where credit is due.

Portsmouth has good size and skill in the trenches. A fast, shifty qb and a couple of rb's that will fight for every inch. Our pass coverage has been exposed a few times this year and our own passing game is not a huge threat. Portsmouth will have to play up to Ironton and , establish long droves that end in scores and keep the penalties down. If we come out in the first half like we have the last 3 weeks it won't look much different than what they did to Gallia. If we play to.our fullest potential I think maybe it looks more like the Pikeville contest.

Ironton will be the favorite obviously, but I think the Trojans will play hard on senior night in this big time rivalry. Portsmouth will have a tough time defending Terry, I say don’t kick it to him at any point for starters lol. Ironton has other weapons besides Terry of course. I think the Trojans can score on the Tigers, but it’ll be tough. I hope it’s a clean game (it won’t be lol) and injury free.

The State has this rivalry starting in 1902. This is not the right date. This game was first played in the 1890s. The OHSAA has Ironton starting football in 1902 and this is also wrong. Believe me I have passed this information along to the right people but as far as I know it hasn't been changed.

Portsmouth defense is underrated. Offense line for Portsmouth is pretty solid. Ironton will pull away eventually if it’s played clean

There’s a whole thread back and forth on that fiasco, I won’t get into it because I don’t want to ruin this game thread. Both teams have a bad taste in their mouths from it. Both have been looking forward to this game. Now that you can LEGALLY tackle someone, it’s time to buckle that chin strap, put in that mount piece and lay some lumber.

Should Ironton win yes, they have more talent, depth and played the much tougher schedule. That said Portsmouth isn’t Gallia or Fairland. They are going to come out and run the ball at you over and over and be physical. Not going to roll over just because the Tigers are in town. This game will definitely be chippy and full of flags as neither team is very disciplined.

Ironton has cleaned up the penalties for most part this year. They are a lot less penalized. I was told Ironton after the scuffle stayed and coaching staff made the kids run on Peakes field while Portsmouth stayed and watched and cheered. This is the game Ironton has been waiting on. They have played better rushing attacks this year I believe ex. Clarkson North, Pikeville, Hartley all were BIG and physical. Ironton is pretty good against the run.

A fun rivalry game, I can see Portsmouth putting up 20+ points but I still anticipate Ironton wining by 20+ as well. But you never quite know with rivalry games.

Unfortunately Portsmouth has not improved much on penalties and might have actually taken a step backwards as the year drags on. It's not always something unsportsmanlike or excessive but there are a lot of dumb penalties that shouldn't be happening late in the season. I don't belive the any of the coaches for Phs are the type to scream at the kids on the sidelines so I'm not sure what is said in the locker room but it isn't working. We had a lot of penalties against South Point that negated long plays or extended SP drives. We were throwing block in the back when our ball carriers had already broken loose and getting late hits when the play had broken up in their back field. This bit us big last year against Burg in the playoffs and it will probably bite us big in this game without a dramatic change.

The Portsmouth rushing attack is quite good, but likely not on the level of those teams. That’s why I didn’t compare them to those teams, just the local other former OVC foes. Portsmouth definitely still undisciplined, hurt them last night against a not so good team. Make mistakes against a good team like Ironton and you won’t recover because they aren’t 1-8. I’ll take your word on Ironton as I’ve only seen them twice, both times online. I expect personal fouls, late hits, sideline warnings from both sides though tbh. lol

Ironton is the favorite of course but Portsmouth can hang. I think Ironton pulls away late and wins by 3 or 4 scores but I’d love a Portsmouth win. I just hope Portsmouth doesn’t have the game plan like they did at wheelersburg last year in the playoffs. They were down and ran left ran right run middle and punt every play. They will have to pass. It’s a rivalry so anything can happen.

Curious to see how Portsmouth fairs offensively. Fairland couldn’t throw at all but their defense was opportunistic to make plays. If Portsmouth qb can do similar to what Fairland did and Heiland can run hard they can keep it close. Also how does Ironton play for a full game will they have a sluggish start like Fairland or dominate start to finish?
