Valenth's Thoughts from Week 8

Post by Valenth »

Another great week of College Football in the Books... heres my thoughts!

1. Well.. Texas ain't #1 anymore.

After falling to Georgia at home. Texas just didn't have anything going for them in the 1st half. They showed life in the 2nd half... however it wasn't enough.

2. Close calls!

#6. Miami getting past Louisville in a shootout.
#9. Iowa State eeking by UCF.
#13. BYU getting the W in the last seconds of the game.

3. I gotta say.... I am quite impressed with Indiana!

The Hoosiers took Nebraska to the Woodshed yesterday. And now I wonder. Could Indiana be actual playoff contender? Because this is a team that is firing on ALL CYLINDERS right now!

4. Tennessee gets the best of Alabama... Again

Boy oh boy was this a Mess of a game. Penalties and Turnovers Galore. It was an all out Sloppy game. But the Volunteers pulled it out in the end.

5. The Army-Navy game later this season is gonna be a GOOD GAME!

Both of these teams are currently ranked and defeated their opponents. Be interesting to see their rankings by the time the game happens!

6. Not much from Ohio State and Penn State as they had BYE Weeks.

7. What is going on with USC?

The Trojans are on a downward spiral after losing in a close one to Maryland. Lincoln Rileys Coaching seat is heating up!

8. Not a close call...

South Carolina destroys Oklahoma...

Valenth's TOP 10!

1. Oregon +1
2. Georgia +3
3. Penn State
4. Ohio State
5. Texas - 4
6. Miami
7. Tennessee +4
8. LSU
9. Clemson +1
10. Iowa State -1

Alabama fall out of the Top 10

On the outside...

11. Notre Dame +1
12. BYU +1
13. Alabama -6

Your thoughts? Let me know!

Indiana is a curious case. I believe 30 new transfer players and a new energetic coach with a track record of doing more with less makes for a winning combination. Against Nebraska, they played with a fast, aggressive tempo and looked they were actually having fun. If the Hoosiers can keep their magic going and Ohio State fails to find its mojo, it is not inconceivable that Indy could be playing for a conference championship and playoff bye. I'm not sold on Penn State and the Buckeyes definitely have issues.

As to the rest does parity reign? Is 1 through 10 interchangeable on any given Saturday? Texas and Bama go down . Oregon did not look overly impressive at Purdue.

Some random observations.

I thought with NIL and the transfer portal, the rich would get richer, but the rules changes seem to have spread the talent instead.

The Saban retirement and the ensuing coaching carousel has definitely upset the CFB pecking order more than I thought possible.

Holy cow! For once I nailed the AP Top 10 on the Dot!

But Alabama fell much further than I thought which means the marriage of Alabama and the AP might finally be over.

But what a marriage it was. Alabama's and Saban's dominance going back to 2009 was unparalleled. Don't count Bama out yet. They still have talent even without Saban.

Don't forget about the forewarning that Indiana's new coach gave everyone back in December when he was first hired!

Indiana is rolling right now - who will be the first to slow them down? They host Washington this week on College Gameday

Good thoughts after week 8!

When coaches make statements like that... most of the time they don't age that well. What teams with a Stout Defense has Indiana actually played?

They will this week. Huskies have the 8th ranked defense in the country. See how good that Hoosier offense is.
