Ironton Hall of Fame
Ironton Hall of Fame
What has happened to that honor. A lot of x athletes from Ironton should be on there. To many young ones on there at first.Should have been the older ones first.
Re: Ironton Hall of Fame
The priorities are just not in I-town. There is talk from the talking heads about taking Bob Lutz’s name off the field and put Pendelton’s. He is no Bob Lutz and never will be but that is where their mindset is these days.

I don't know why people like to post nonsense on here. There is no talk of taking Lutz name off of anything, they are tearing down the stadium down to build a new one, and if Pendleton is there another 10 years I'd be surprised, let alone 30. You think he keeps all these contacts with theses college teams just for the kids.
Now look. You all sucked me into this crap

Re: Ironton Hall of Fame
I have talked with some of those on the nominating committee and tried to get a few guys that have been left off the list of candidates. My complaint is the players from Irontons 1935 team is woefully overlooked
George McAfee is in the NFL Hall of fame in Canton. He is also on the Ironton Hall of Fame. What about his brother Wes who played college football at Duke and drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. We had a thread on here about if Terry from Ironton is better than Jermon
Jackson. Well what about Hobe Royal who also played on this team. He scored every way possible on this team. He ran punts and kickoffs back for TDs. He had a pick six. He not only scored TDs by rushing but caught passes also. On top of all that he even threw passes for TDs. All it takes is go to the genealogy department of the library and look up the stats in old newspaper articles.
Yes it might take a little bit of research but not doing it is very unjust by the committee. Maybe one day it will change but I doubt it.
Re: Ironton Hall of Fame
I dont think the HOF commiittee makes it a priority. Very little time and energy is put into it. There are many that have not been mentioned for the HOF., Jimmy Morris, Heath Brownstead great running back. Gabe Lewis. All great football players for Ironton to just mention a few. As far as basketball goes guys like Dickie James, Dean Fitzpatrick, Charlie Kitchen be left off the list. Charlie was one of the best if not the best to play hoops at Ironton. The committee needs to give notice to players that should have been in the HOF long ago.

Re: Ironton Hall of Fame
The athletes you have mentioned are all deserving of the Hall of Fame. First of all there are more sports at Ironton than football and basketball. Before I leave those how about basketball. I've seen a lot that goes back to Ralph Snead. Dennis Gagai, Brig Waginger and Zack Carter all played on State final teams. Dennis and Brig played on a team that went 26 and 0 and wasnt beat until the finals of the State.Jumper45 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 3:23 pm I dont think the HOF commiittee makes it a priority. We have had 3 State Championships in golf. How many of those guys are in the Hall. Others that I can think of that are very worthy is Jim Mains, Roger Zornes and Amy Hughes.
Re: Ironton Hall of Fame
Roger Zornes and Amy Hughes were at Ironton like 3-4 years each. Great coaches but I’d focus on players before coaches.

Re: Ironton Hall of Fame
Then do we throw out Bob Lutz, Mike Bircham and Richard Gallgher I don't think so. Roger Zornes his last year was 26 and 1. Amy Hughes took our girls to the final four. One of her girls are in the Hall. Mandy Boykin. The names I threw out there were just suggestion. Wes McAfee played college ball at Duke and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was George's brother. And how about John McAfee who played at Ohio State. Another of the McAfee brothers. The Ironton tradition didn't start in 1972.
