Week 10 : (8-1) Ironton @ (7-2) Portsmouth
Re: Week 10 : (8-1) Ironton @ (7-2) Portsmouth
Not a wise idea to poke the bear. Portsmouth and their actions at the 7 on 7 was ridiculous. If I am Portsmouth I am not coming out to play Ironton and adding more fuel to the fire. If you pay attention to this board the summer actions of Portsmouth did just that.
I think the Ironton team comes out with laser like focus and the Tigers put it on the Trojans. This Ironton team is legit and Portsmouth isn’t going to line up and shove it down their throat. One dimensional offense for Portsmouth won’t work against this defense. The way that the Ironton defense swarms to the football and tackle in space this team will be hungry.I don't think Portsmouth can slow down this Ironton offense and think they will not be able to slow down the Ironton offense getting the down hill running game with the screen game and play action pass game this Ironton offense is loaded and can score a ton of points in a hurry.
Can’t wait to watch this game I think Ironton wins this one big

Lmao you Lawrence county folks are some type of special, that’s for sure. “The actions of Portsmouth at the 7on7 were ridiculous”. So we just going to sit here and pretend the video proof of Ironton pushing & tackling as well as jawing didn’t happen? Since when do you tackle in a 7on7? Wasn’t one time, numerous plays. Do you people think oh Portsmouth decided to just throw the ball at the defender for no reason. They were made to run the field after the bs they started lmao. Circle all the dates you want, you start some poop in a 2 hand touch game but don’t expect anyone to be pissed and retaliate? Give me a break with all this extra motivation poop, this game is a rivalry, Ironton was going to come out and not let off the gas and play dirty even if Portsmouth kissed their ass like all of you on here. Give me a darn break.RJShifko wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 11:34 am Not a wise idea to poke the bear. Portsmouth and their actions at the 7 on 7 was ridiculous. I remember when this was THE GAME. Best show in town back in the day. Portsmouth has made it interesting a few times recently but not able to get over the hump. If my memory is right Portsmouth led this series until the new Ironton coaching staff came in. My Tigers will be too much, but would love to see this rivalry game be competitive.

I also remember back some 20 years that Portsmouth fans were the best group in Southern Ohio and I driving to Portsmouth to sit inSpartan stadium with the levee as a background! Levee held lots of people watching games with Trojan sayings written on the
Levee. Man those were great memories of this rivalry. If I remember right Portsmouth was the powerhouse back then of all Southern Ohio. Portsmouth 21 Ironton 16 . Upset of year!

Re: Week 10 : (8-1) Ironton @ (7-2) Portsmouth
Yep, this game used to be THE one. It’s still a fun rivalry, brings a good gate but has been very one sided recently. Portsmouth’s last win was in 2018. I think that was Pendletons first season at Ironton, Kalbs at Portsmouth too I believe. Portsmouth was down maybe 28-0 at halftime. Talyn Parker ran wild in the second half, the lights went out and Portsmouth came back to win 35-28. That win got them into the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Ever since that night it hasn’t be really that close. 2021 during the playoffs I think the final was 17-6, and last years regular season matchup was 21-6. Think both coaches have done a great job taking over both programs. Portsmouth isn’t on the same level as Ironton, but maybe one day could be. Just not enough interest in the program at Portsmouth, that goes for a lot of other sports their too unfortunately.Ohio1979 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 12:23 pm I remember when this was THE GAME. Man I sure do miss sitting on the levee down at Spartan and taking in the games. Nothing better than being a levee lizard down there lol. “Tank this” written on the levee for all to see. Great memories.Prime Time wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 12:37 pm I also remember back some 20 years that Portsmouth fans were the best group in Southern Ohio and I driving to Portsmouth to sit inSpartan stadium with the levee as a background! Where is all the old Tiger posters at , at one time they had some of best posters around. But 20-30 years ago and I hope a lot of those old Tiger and Trojan posters still kicking! Hope the weather holds up for these two great programs. Question does Coach Kalb and Trojan faithful remember getting hosed at the Tank ! I think this was one of my last games I went to while in southern Ohio on the river.

I went to almost all of Irontons 7 on 7’s, there’s a lot more tackling that goes on than you would think, fairly rough at times.BuckeyeBlood wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 12:11 pmLmao you Lawrence county folks are some type of special, that’s for sure. “The actions of Portsmouth at the 7on7 were ridiculous”. Re: Week 10 : (8-1) Ironton @ (7-2) Portsmouth
I always look forward to this game. I made several guys that are almost my friends down in Portsmouth. I cannot tell yet and have been advised that one of them especially does not like me. That’s OK though, I think he’s pretty swell.
My impression of this Tiger team is that, in my opinion, it is one of the most well-prepared Fighting Tiger teams I’ve ever seen take the field and that started on week one. They have a lot of position coaches on and I believe that they are talented and have really taught the boys well. They’re much more disciplined as well from the last few years.
I think one of the toughest games they had this year was against Pikeville. They really had to get to work to win that one. Those rednecks down there really wanted it. I think the fans were worse and more than a few of us were threatened by them at the game lol. One man who often leads the ‘TIGER’ cry was stopped by a police officer who accused him of trying to start a riot. I was proud to be an Ironton fan because I know that our fans would be far more classy and would never act like that to them. If we never go down there again, it will be too soon.
I firmly believe that when we step into Portsmouth Trojan Stadium Friday night, the Tigers have a tough row to plow as a Trojans will want this game so bad. There is a lot of stake for them. I know they’d love to have a playoff game or two to start the playoff season. A win against the Tigers would absolutely insure that happens.

Well, Who Wouldn't Love Them Fighting Tigers?!
Re: Week 10 : (8-1) Ironton @ (7-2) Portsmouth
That’s the thing for me, I know this game is a huge rivalry, I know there was some beef and stupidity from both sides over the summer, Ironton has beat up on Portsmouth recently, both have very strong, proud fan bases. With that said I sure hope Friday is about the game and doesn’t escalate outside of that. I know some Portsmouth fans that like to jaw and I’m sure Ironton will jaw back. I don’t want anyone to feel threatened or hate coming to Portsmouth. I know that is the feeling for many people across a few different sports. I hate that because I’m passionate sure, but I know where to draw the line. Some fans do not and I feel like it gives Portsmouth fans a bad reputation.kantucky wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 9:25 pm I always look forward to this game.
