I certainly know who is going to quote this and poke holes in it but I do not care. This is a coaching staff who has been there and won that. Do they have their moments making questionable decisions certainly every staff does but they thrive in moments like these. Getting the most out of their team and not playing down to their opponent. While they did take some on the chin early in the year I had no doubt that Burg would get it together come playoff time tonight showed it taking one of the longest bus rides in the state for a playoff game

Agreed…I was too down on Burg after the McNick game, but started realizing it after watching what Burg did to Northwest, Valley, and then playing HP tough on road. They have started leaning on their big OL/running game and put Rucker in a better position to succeed.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:53 pmwobycat wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:49 pmI honestly thought this was Barnesvilles weakest team out of the three. Fully expect Burg to be playing in Regional Final against Ironton or HP, and have absolutely no pressure on them whatsoever.*

Re: Burg vs Barnesville
Question for people who predict Wheelersburg’s demise every year: are you guys surprised when the coyote doesn’t catch the roadrunner?
Re: Burg vs Barnesville
I said burg would win. I watched the game. I'm sure burg's defense had a lot to do with it - but Barnesville looked awful on offense. They were very unpolished in everything they did - as if they don't practice offense at all. Every pass looked shaky from the snap - the QB dropping, never really setting up, no discernable QB footwork, and then just launching it somewhere. Again, props to the burg defense. But, although folks say SE Ohio is relatively weak, I gotta wonder about the caliber of ball in that area of the state. *And what about that QB's stance under center ?? I've NEVER seen that.
The burgers couldn't have asked for an easier bracket.

Re: Burg vs Barnesville
That’s what try to tell people who say our area is bad football all around when we do have some respectable programs in Burg, Jackson, Ironton, some years Waverly, West, even to a degree Portsmouth and Fairland. Outside of Stuebenville most of the teams in the Ohio Valley are not very good either. (I’m sure there are some decent programs I am not thinking of)LockHerUp wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:27 am I said burg would win. I watched the game. Don't know what I was thinking picking Barnesville other than that city is closer to me than 'Burg.
Saw highlights and let me say those Wheelersburg linemen look grain-fed. Big, physical, very deserving. Congrats.

Re: Burg vs Barnesville
Just a quick answer to this post. Barnesville absolutely played their worst game of the year last night!!! I think Wheelersburg had gotten into the rocks heads ! They have had maybe 3-4 dropped passes all year and had many more than that last night! The burg is always tough every year so a close game was expected!!LockHerUp wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:27 am I said burg would win. I watched the game. Kudos to the coaches for changing the offense to focus more on the run. Putting Rucker in shotgun and forcing him to pass to win was not a good strategy; didn’t work well last night either.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 11:56 pmAgreed…I was too down on Burg after the McNick game, but started realizing it after watching what Burg did to Northwest, Valley, and then playing HP tough on road. Now to have a shot against the better teams, Burg needs to run some play action from under center on early downs. Hope to see that next. Especially when the teams bring their safeties up.
Re: Burg vs Barnesville
Claiming Burg has no talent or the program is in decline is just stupid. These claims have been made all the way back to the Miller days…GrumpyPundit wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 7:38 am Question for people who predict Wheelersburg’s demise every year: are you guys surprised when the coyote doesn’t catch the roadrunner?
Problem this team had early on was their offensive strategy. Was too pass heavy which was clearly not successful. Burg needs to always be a run first team, and use play action to keep the D honest.
Developing their run game this year will pay massive dividends next with nearly the entire offense coming back.
Re: Burg vs Barnesville
Most hs teams should be run heavy. Control the touches of better teams and rely on D to get stops, and flip the field. Besides, when the kicker can knock down 46 yrd fgs as though they were a 2 foot putt, you are almost always within scoring position.RBH23 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 11:18 amClaiming Burg has no talent or the program is in decline is just stupid. Re: Burg vs Barnesville
There was a reason for that. Burg absolutely owned that line of scrimmage last night both on defense and offense. I think Barnesville coaches weren’t expecting that. You could tell how flustered the coaches were trying to get their plays in. There was also some nice coverage by the pirates outside of free safety getting beat a couple of times.Purplesage wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 11:07 amJust a quick answer to this post. Re: Burg vs Barnesville
Good winby Burg. Barnesville was a deer in the head lights all night i think they were very surprised just how good Burg is because of their record looks not so good and the best thing Barnesville needs to do is strengthen their schedule
