D7 R27 : South Gallia (7-3) vs. Eastern (11-0)

Post by Mercerville Monster »

First matchup went in favor of the Eagles 13-12 in Mercerville just two short weeks ago and now the Rebels make the trip to Eastern. I think the Rebels were hoping for this scenario to play out in the playoffs and now it’s here.

SG really shot themselves in the foot the last go around with turnovers and credit goes to Eastern for finding a way to get it done. I will say South Gallia has done a complete 360 from the beginning of the year to now and seem to have saved their best ball for the right time of the year. Credit to the coaches and players for sticking with it and getting it figured out.

As far as this one goes, I’m hoping for as good of a game as the last one, this time with the Rebels coming out on top. I’ll take SG 28-21.

On the midweek coaches show after the SG game. Eastern's head coach said they are 21 points better than SG but didn't play to their potential. I guess we'll find out Friday.

Without those turnovers in game 1 between these two sg would’ve more than likely won by multiple touchdowns. SG wins this one by 2 scores and moves on to round 3

Hope they play to their potential Friday night then cause I know one team that is.

If Easterns offense shows up I think it will be all Eastern. They really struggled against South Gallia a couple weeks ago to get anything going offensively. I think we will see Eastern turn Manley loose and let him run the ball a lot more this game and hopefully it will open some other things up for them. Defensively they are getting better by the week especially with stoping the run. They will also have the Carver kid that transferred in from Northwest for this game. He has had to sit out all year and I’d say he’s chomping at the bit to get out there and hit somebody. He’s a big body that has speed and I heard he’s meaner than a junk yard dog! Probably see him at line backer and getting some carries as well!

35-20 Eastern. I think South Gallia is to one dimensional and Eastern just has to many weapons.

Other than SG and Miller, which Eastern Pike barely beat, their schedule has been incredibly weak. I have a feeling that either of these teams would beat Eastern Pike soundly now, and now we get to see one of these teams get to line it up against them and prove it. Good luck to the Rebels.

So you think Miller a senior heavy team and South Gallia a team we just played 2 weeks ago can beat us? If they was going to beat us it would’ve definitely been earlier in the year especially Miller who they played in week 1. What big wins does South Gallia and Miller have? I think most people have forgotten that Eastern had to reload this year. Lost our QB, RB, both WRs and had to replace 3 lineman. Also you can add that we have 3-4 freshmen on the field playing defense most of the time. Real young teams like this are the teams you don’t want to play at the end of the year. They’ve had to fight and claw back in several games annd have found a way to win. That’s impressive for a young team. They still haven’t played a complete game but they’re definitely making huge strides and the online has what really impressed me as of late. So I think you have it backwards Steely Dan. This is our QBs first real year of getting any actual playing time and it definitely showed against Miller and South Gallia but he is getting more and more comfortable in the pocket every game and they’re starting to cut him loose running the ball. Kid can run and I think South Gallia probably remembers that 4th and 8 he picked up on them with his feet in the final drive. If he comes out and plays up to his potential, makes his throws and stays calm. I don’t think South Gallia has the horses to run with us. Plus throw in the Carver kid and now Tomilson is 100% and don’t have to play with his club definitely isnt going to hurt us.

I also heard that Carver was ineligible by the OHSAA for the regular season for accepting a NIL deal with Emma’s Frosty Creme. I think the deal was he was able to receive a free footer and milk shake on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

After the game Friday night you South Gallia faithful should definitely stop by and grab a footer or veal both top notch and the best around. It might make that long miserable ride a little bit more enjoyable for you back home after we hand you that L.

Why did the Carver kid have to sit out?
He was ejected in week 10 for fighting, both guys probably should've been ejected but when you're on a team getting ready to head into the playoffs you've have to play with a cool head and walk away I don't care what the kid did to you. SG gave Eastern all it wanted and then some in the week 9 matchup and Eastern was able to fight through a lot of issues, mainly lack of offense and come through in the end. SG going into that game did have 2 weeks to prepare and was able to be at the ND and Eastern game to scout things out and that makes a big difference in HS ball. So you can say going into that game SG had a major advantage, fast forward 3 weeks later and we'll see how things fall. SG has a really good group of seniors and they're looking for quite a bit of payback and whoever walks away victorious will find themselves deeper in the playoffs than any team in their schools history. We'll see how much Eastern learned from the 1st game, let's go with Eastern at home by 7 in another dog fight team with the most fight is going to take it.

SG and EP just played in week 9 so it's not like you're talking about 2 teams that have made some kind of drastic transformation in that short time.

I think Frontier thought they were going to go into Friday nights game and throw the ball quite easily which did not happen. I’m not going to say South Gallia will shut down Easterns passing attack but there was a reason Easterns QB had a tough time with them.

Fantastic 50 regular season strength of schedule ranks
(out 104 D7 teams)
South Gallia 95

Thanks for sharing this icanpickem. Being that Region 27 is the weakest region in DVII, these numbers are not surprising at all.
