Week 12 Wheelersburg (7-4) @ Union Local (9-2)
Pirates in their usual playoff peak.
Union Local lost week 10 to Barnesville but apparently starting QB was out that game. Have a nice one point win over DIII Indian Creek early in the year. Otherwise they beat a lot of bad teams.
Pirates have another long bus ride this week.
What say the keyboard experts?

I would take UL’s loss to Barnesville with a grain a salt. I watched the replay and IMO they had their worst first half of the season. If it could gone wrong, it did. UL is a solid team. Burg needs to stick with their run and mix in some play action. Secondary needs to step up in pass coverage. Barnesville had 4-5 drops that would have been big gains. If a Burg plays to their strengths, I think they win by 7 or more. Go Burg!

I'll take Burg by a touchdown . I think it will be close. The Burg Line took over last night. They are hitting their stride right now.

Burg 31-7. Their easiest path since 2017 thus far...

Can’t take anything for granted but I’m not sure about the qb being out…watching the NY game, the announcers say (they could be wrong) UL runs a two qb system and 5 (played the entire game,I think, against Barnes) is the better passer and 7 is the dual threat. The Pierzanowski kid for UL went for 210 yards or so on the ground as well so we’re facing another decent back. The Pirates completely shut the Tolliver kid down though so we’ll see!CuckooNest wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 3:19 pm Pirates in their usual playoff peak.

Interesting how things have turned in this part of the bracket, Burg by 14
Re: Week 12 Wheelersburg (7-4) @ Union Local (9-2)
Yeah not sure about QB situation, number 5 played against St.Clairsville looked fine but not so good against barnseville. I agree about Proud pirates assessment, I wouldn't read much into the barnesville/union local score. Burg should be able to run against UL.
UL offense is pretty good, I think they can chunk out some plays too. Burg needs to play sound defensively. If they do, they have a shot at the upset. Another long trip on friday.

Long bus ride their will stink
Long bus ride home with a win will not
Long bus ride home with a win will not

I would by no means if Burg wins call this game an upset. I think Burg will be the favorite in this game and a big equalizer in this game will be another one of those super long bus drives but what I don't get is I think that that Burg should get the home game since they beat the 3 seed IMO that's how it should be playedwobycat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 6:00 pm Yeah not sure about QB situation, number 5 played against St.Clairsville looked fine but not so good against barnseville. Wheelersburg comfortably. One of those 17-24 point wins that is never really in doubt.
Re: Week 12 Wheelersburg (7-4) @ Union Local (9-2)
UL is in week 12 for a reason and they're at home. Burg has to play sound, mistake free ball to get the win. Good luck pirates.

I agree. They have weapons. Their tailback is really good. They have a speedster at wideout. And a really good QB. Line is pretty solid on offensive end. Burg has to come off that bus like they did against Barnesville or they will lose.
Re: Week 12 Wheelersburg (7-4) @ Union Local (9-2)
I have to agree the way the state sets this up
Is unfair to the higher seeds in the regions. I would think the higher seeds should face the lower seeds especially if you are first or second seed in your region.
Re: Week 12 Wheelersburg (7-4) @ Union Local (9-2)
if a couple defensive backs can't cover any better than last week, it could be a long night for the Burg. And stop that holding.
Re: Week 12 Wheelersburg (7-4) @ Union Local (9-2)
So Ironton/Wheelersburg this week? That really fair to everyone?
It’s a tournament. You have to beat the best eventually. Are some paths easier than others? Sure. But whining about it won’t fix anything.
Wheelersburg wasn’t handed this path. They went on the road and beat an undefeated #3 seed. Now they steal their bracket.

Completely agree. Luck of the draw plays a role in every tournament at all levels.TigerBob wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:22 amSo Ironton/Wheelersburg this week? That really fair to everyone?

And, as you stated, every team has to keep winning to advance, and the best teams eventually cross paths.

As long as Burg plays teams with average skill kids they'll be fine. .
Once they draw an Ironton or a Prep it's basketball season.
Burg is STILL exactly who they have been. Look good against ovc type teams. Get dog walked vs the deep and talented teams.
