Three dominant programs from both sides of the river barely able to field a team if any team at all? This is crazy.

Fairland has been to back to back final fours and four final fours in the last 9 years.. they can only get 11 out to play

My thoughts for low numbers:
1. Some players now think that if you don't play varsity, you might as well not play, if they don't make varsity they quit.
2. Parents do not buy into certain coaching styles, they will then tell players not to play or attempt to remove the coach.
3. In contrast to my first point, sometimes the numbers are there, and then coaches only focus on the top 6-7 players and treat the others as practice extras. The numbers coming out the next year will reduce if the coach takes this route.

I agree with all 3 points you make. I know first hand that coaches can definitely make or break a team, and the amount of girls that come out to play. It's all about winning, and only winning. Shame on coaches that won't play there bench when they're up 20-30 points.

Agree with the three points and I would also add travel volleyball eating into those numbers big time. The "prestige" of being on a travel team even though they take whoever is willing to pay and the travel growing to younger and younger groups is a major factor in my opinion.

Something in the water out there. Football had a bunch of kids that did not come back out and now girls basketball. I believe it was both last years freshman class.

I agree w/ number 3 on what you said. I have seen it & experienced it many even back when I played from 93-97 in a different state. It is so hard for some coaches to want to work more w/ the kids that need more help. Freshmen & sophomores shouldn't be expect to be on varsity.

Agree with all 3, more so 1&2. But another factor is Club volleyball. Club volleyball is no longer for the elite players. Most clubs have expanded to multiple teams at each grade level to CASH in while club volleyball is the "hot thing". I've seen upper classmen that aren't even in rotation (don't play) at the varsity level, make a Club team. And these girls aren't from powerhouse D1 high schools, we are talking girls from D4 high schools with average VB programs that aren't sending players to the next level.

Another factor is the physicality of girls' basketball. Talking to multiple girls over the years, I hear... "I don't like all the running" or "it's too rough"

no, i never said bad or average at volleyball at all. just that coaches tell me the girls would rather play volleyball as a club team where no running up and down the court is involved.

Marion Local got to the Elite 8 last year, so it must not be a problem for them. Coldwater’s 15 person roster is mostly upperclassmen for this season as well.

Scrimmage on 11/19 vs Fed Hock. FF lone senior is out due to a concussion. Will be starting 4 sophmores and 1 freshman. Who's gonna step up? We shall see.
