Rio Grande Football Coaching Change
Rio Grande Football Coaching Change
I just saw that Quincy Wilson is out at Rio Grande already. They have named his replacement: the DC Thurston now takes over.
How was Rio doing recruiting the southern Ohio area this fall?
Does anyone know what happened this coaching change happened quick and now the program hasn’t even started their first official season yet and they had to change their head coach.
I do think it is cool to have the program at Rio Grande curious if it recruits Southern Ohio kids well

Never want to speculate, but this quote doesn't sound too promising.
Rio Athletics says regarding Wilson, they will not be providing details on the decision to “respect the privacy of all parties involved.” Wilson was named head coach in June, two months after Rio announced a relaunch of their football program and the addition of a marching band program

I heard Rio has been set up with an info station at some Jackson home games.
I also saw on X that Rio offered 5 kids from Beaver Eastern last weekend.

Really hope the program does well. Could be a great landing spot for so many local kids looking for a chance to play college football and not wanting to be too far from home.
Playing games at Jackson to start will be nice until they get their own stadium set up

My first thoughts were that he either took a different job, or that he did something to make them mutually agree to part ways

Not the news you want to hear before Rio's program has even played their first game. With offseason starting in January, new coach gotta hit the ground running. With that said, it will be a loooooooong process before Rio can expect to field a competitive team.*

Rumor around campus is he was found out to have been sleeping with the Rio girls softball team and teachers at the elementary school and he's married.

If this is all true, it is very sad the moral compass we have in this country right now.

Quincy was supposed to be spreading the seeds of a football program.
Re: Rio Grande Football Coaching Change
It sounds like Rio handled it appropriately. At least they didn't try to play footsies with the dude
Re: Rio Grande Football Coaching Change
You obviously don’t know the size of NAIA and NCAA DII and III schools who play football. But okToddster25 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 9:25 pm Way too small a campus for football

And if folks think Rio can compete in NAIA with local talent, they will be disappointed.

Can they sustain a program with primarily local talent? Probably not.

Don't speak til you know what you're talking about. Go watch an NAIA or D2 game.Toddster25 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 9:25 pm Way too small a campus for football

Yeah because sleeping around just became a thing within the last 10 years. Not saying it’s right but let’s be real here.
