MaxPreps information ... let's do better please!

Post by pfloyd »

I've never been a fan of MaxPreps - ever ... it has been promoted by OHSAA to being THE site where the schools/coaches/someone assigned by each of the teams in SEOhio/state to put scores/game results ... then the seeding for the post season is determined by the MaxPrep/OHSAA rankings in each division/each region - I get that- not a fan, but I get it ... my WISH - Rosters - all schools should be required to put in the correct rosters - seems simple to me ... AND A LOT OF THE SCHOOLS DO IT!!! - thank you ... other schools put in the rosters with partial information missing #'s, year in school, heights etc. OR THE BIG complaint I have - rosters are added BUT the previous 10 years of players are still there! when the current rosters are added the OLD rosters should be deleted ... there are rosters that have 50+ players on them!!! ... if OHSAA is making MaxPreps THE site for information - do it right please ... end of rant LOL

... I might be the only one who cares about the rosters as I go to a lot of games, using rosters on my napkin stat book or maybe the radio/tv guys use the rosters to put together their rosters sheets/starters etc. ... even if I didn't do SEOPreps game rundowns , etc. I as a fan would like to know who I'm watching on each team out on the court ... most schools do not have programs with rosters anymore - not cost affective ... would love to at least be able to get a roster sheet for both teams when I go to games ... the scorekeepers around Southern/SouthEastern Ohio are very good about letting me take a pic of the rosters from the scorebooks when I ask - so it's not a BIG issue but ... I'm an old, grumpy guy, climbing down from the cheap seats with bifocals ... I try to have my napkin stat sheets ready to go before I get to games

I haven’t looked at Unioto’s yet for this season, but it’ll be fixed if it reverted for some reason. However, I had to adjust the football roster something like 8 times this fall, because the Maxpreps website itself will just add those players back. It’s very frustrating.

The one roster I looked at today did have players from at least 2018 and zero current players on it. Which was nice.

... I am now getting an error message trying to get copies of teams' schedules - putting together my "pfloyd tour" games for December ... got my preseason top 29 schedules printed out - it wouldn't give me Symmes Valley ... I'll go back in a few to see if they fixed their error ...

I'd just call the school. Always ask for secretary to email it to me whenever I need a school's schedule.

I'm right there with you Pfloyd. Very frustrating especially when it comes to their rankings and roster. In the current digital world we live in why would they not have these things figured out? I remember a time when you could get rosters of the Freshan, JV, and Varsity at the door, now? You can't even find them online and the rosters are never updated.

Athens HS wins with the biggest roster for boys varsity basketball in SEO - 77 on their varsity roster sheet ! (smh) ... I would think that the roster that is turned in to the AD with Uniform #'s, names, grade, height, etc can be uploaded to the MaxPreps site ... I will say "thank you" to the schools/teams who have done it right! I have 24 rosters (some more complete than others) out of the 72 schools in the SouthEast District from off of MaxPreps ... probably 5 schools do not have completed schedules on MaxPreps yet, 4-5 have no rosters entered at all ... I'll stop complaining , I'll just go to the scorers table and take a pic of the rosters once they are in the scorebooks ... MaxPreps has done nothing to make me like it anymore than I did before - wonder what the $$$$$ amount they get for doing the rankings/seedings/etc? - never mind, my head might explode LOL...

Feel your pain. I have the same problems up here in OCC land. We also have a few coaches who take forever to update the scores.

... I typed a response to your post LAST NIGHT! it was pretty lengthy , when I reread what I had typed it sounded like I was complaining about MaxPreps, about who's responsibility it is to "get the information" on the MaxPrep site ... then complaining more about MaxPrep given $$$$ by the OHSAA to do the RPI etc. and SHOULD be making sure that the info is there - complete/up-to-date/correct ... in the end I deleted it LOL - which happens more times than not!!! - as I have set MY standards to be "positive" ... but, I am frustrated with MaxPreps LOL ...

If the school doesn't keep its schedule and scores (& roster) up to date (in a timely manner) it should negatively affect its RPI.

... I agree TSYS ... I totally understand that it's left up to the individual schools to update all the info - which puts the problem on MaxPreps to "police" the information that is or is not updated, uploaded by the home schools ... a negative affect on the schools RPI puts the onus back on the schools to provide accurate/updated/required information ... if you have a website - MaxPreps- which supposedly has the information, is an outlet for information - it should 1) be there 2) be accurate 3) be updated ...
