Drop the Yellow Pirates and bump Jackson over to week 1. Jackson is a stand up program that doesn’t whine and cry. We’ll be fine, get away from the Yellow Pirates
I recommend you let Pendleton know that. He’s the one trying to hold onto this game.

Of course he has to deal with the reality of finances and filling a schedule, you don’t.
Why would Wheelersburg ever want to drop Ironton , that’s insane
From a dollars perspective, I agree.

However, many at Burg have the same feelings about Pendleton that Ashland and the OVC schools do. Regardless if the recruiting is true or not, many in power believe it to be so and want IHS off the schedule. Others at Burg want the game to be played, but those numbers seem to be shrinking.

Will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Ironton can’t afford to drop Burg. Ironton has no leverage and is desperate for games; especially big money making games. Pendleton is lucky that Burg hasn’t dropped Ironton at this point. That would be a big financial hit to Ironton while also contributing to their scheduling woes.

Too bad Ironton alienated Ashland. That game would be great to have at this moment. Ironton better hope Gallia and Fairland don’t make changes. Lose those two and Burg, Ironton will be hurting.
Burg fans have reached the “we got you in a tight spot on the schedule” coping point. Sad to see from a once proud fan base.
That’s reality.

Seriously, do any of you IHS fans have access to what’s going on behind the scenes?
I do. Everyone is wondering why Wheelersburg wants to change something that has gone on for 30+ years? That’s the question being asked “behind the scenes” at Ironton.

Does anyone behind the scenes at Burg know that answer?

Burg have been cowards. All they do is show up and watch their players fall and flop around on the turf 2 and 3 at a time after a play. The coaching and development have really fell off. Them burg boys aint got no fight in em and cant win ball games because their parents judge one another and others. The burg fan base TALK like they are champs but the program performs like chumps.

2017

1 - 16

37 - 7

55 - 0

92 - 7

Burg is soft as a muffin which ironically leads me to think burgs development just isnt very good at all. Burg players looked so slow & fluffy and unathletic especially on the LOS. Just really embarrassing product to field. Smh

I think burg probably matches up better with the oak hills & minfords. The teams who work really hard are kinda outta burgs range especially as underwhelming the coaching and development are at burg presently.

Ironton is a bit too much to ask of this burg program that has clearly diminished gradually over time. Burg might get maybe like a symnes valley or the Whitwell Browns. Somebody their kids matchup with a lil better so there is no more of the 3 and 4 burg players layin on the turf in pain after every other play vs Ironton going on. Lol

You don’t understand! Winning the state championship is a bad thing! Think of the 2030 schedule implications! Surely this team that has proven they’ll play anyone won’t be able to find a game! Ironton is so lucky they have Wheelersburg around to play.

As long as both teams get the same number of home games during the contract, who hosts first is irrelevant. Last year ended the old contract, next year starts the new one. Also, let’s not act like Wheelersburg filling the SOC bye week with the same team every year and opening Week 1 for another game is a bad thing for them. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship in many ways.

Rumor I heard was Wheelersburg is paying Ironton some cash to flip the hosting dates. Public schools so that info should be out there somewhere.
LOL!! Of course winning the state is an amazing accomplishment. My discussion on this thread started with IHS fans downplaying Terry’s impact. According to them, Terry’s 300 all purpose yards, 10 receptions, 3 TDs, and one int can simply be covered if Terry didn’t play. Just need a few tweaks to the game plan. LOL!!

No doubt Burg benefits from it, but IHS has a bigger scheduling issue. They have four open spots in next year’s schedule. Have been turned down by the MAC schools and Ignatius. Burg already has week 1 replaced and has a replacement for week 6 if need be.

Ironton’s physical location and alienation of local teams will make scheduling quite the challenge. HP struggles with this despite being in Columbus. Will be far worse for IHS.
Ironton does not win the state championship without Shaun Terry. Ironton very well could have played for the state championship, who knows. But they don't win it without him. No shame in that, he is the best playmaker I've ever seen in HS ball in our area. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

If the series ended tomorrow, it would no doubt be worse for Ironton, just because they have more games to fill. Having a local game that is still great competition and a massive gate is a luxury for Ironton. It would be bad to lose that luxury. However, it's a luxury for Wheelersburg too. Both programs are playing for trophies at the regional and state level. Both programs use this game to help them get there on and off the field. Both programs have every incentive to keep it going.

As for "it will be hard for Ironton to schedule," that's true. However, every top program in the state either faces the same problem or is in a league where they don't have to worry about it. There is no local MAC for Ironton to join, so they are going to have to go the other route and play a schedule that features a ton of travel. Again, many top programs around the state have to do the same thing, and Ironton has done it in the past. It is not ideal, but it is necessary if you want to play for and win state titles on a consistent basis.

The way burg players flop around on the turf 3 and 4 players at a time in pain & agony after a play vs an Ironton or a Harvest Prep, i think burg probably needs to schedule a Huntington St Joe or a Portsmouth Notre Dame. Thats more to their level of athleticism, coaching and development. Ironton is just too much to ask for burg year in and year out. The coaching and development and commitment at Ironton is just too much for burg to compete with regularly now.

Burgs more of a girls softball school. The football program & culture has taken a huge step back.

The youngsters took advantage of their high school generational teammate and got the job done. For the players, the rest is noise.

Imagine if #30 Kruse didn’t play for Liberty Center. They probably wouldn’t have scored a point against Ironton’s defense.

Correct.

But for Wheelersburg fans, since their program has only made it beyond the region 4 times in over 3 decades, making envious noise is all the fan base has left UNLESS they are into celebrating watching fluffy, slow, unathletic, poorly developed players flop around on the turf in pain after every play when they play a decent team. Kinda makes ya wonder how the development at burg declined so quickly. The skill kid they called their best and most athletic kid played like a scarecrow stuck in mud vs Ironton and Prep. And they called THAT their most gifted
Just a really sad and pathetic product. Cant believe the fan base is content with mediocre. Is the staff just burned out? Kids deserve more. I bet they wish they had a coach like Pendleton that could get them to the next level. I imagine burg is gonna start losing more kids to Ironton. Kids know the ambition and dedication when they see it and they also know the half hearted effort that is customary now in burgs program isnt going to push them to be better.

Burg dont have any fight left.

Huntington would be a good replacement. Huntington is deeper than burg. More talented and the program is more ambitous and those kids have way more of an edge and play way harder than burg kids anyway. Huntington High is also way better coached and developed & would almost always beat burg like a drum. An Ironton/Huntington game would be a lot better than watching unathletic no heart wheelersburg flop around on the turf after a play everytime they play anybody who isnt oak hill or minford.

Huntington plays in a 10 team conference. Only leaves one week they can schedule out of conference. Hard to get them to schedule out of state small school especially with the new points system in WV.

I believe Ironton’s scheduling problem is made worse by location. If Ironton was located in a metro area, there would be more teams to potentially schedule. Unfortunately they are located in an area of Ohio that is not convenient for travel.

As for other top programs, the smaller schools are nearly all in conferences that fill their schedules. The big catholic schools have difficulties, but they also have size and resources that IHS doesn’t have.

I explained why. Those at Burg view Pendleton just like Ashland does. Believe that Pendleton is recruiting and will continue to do so.

Not saying this to restart the recruiting debate, just sharing what many believe to be true.

Agree, but LC fans are not claiming they would have. Some Ironton fans actually believe IHS would have won without Terry. Just make some adjustments to the offensive game plan. LOL!!

Kaskey is a good OC, but Terry made his job a lot easier.
