Post by SportsGrandDad »

Congrats to the Lady Bulldogs for hitting the century mark!

Coach K has built something special in The Plains. What an amazing accomplishment.

Scoring 100 vs a team who only can muster 8 points-hopefully won’t be a Pyrrhic victory against a comparable team.

Not sure this should be a proud moment for Athens. Unless your bottom 5 players scored 50

Is that because he only down to 9 players and doesn't have a JV team? In 3 years if he doesn't improve, he be just like way Meigs' coach has ruin their program

As a Bulldog supporter, I hope he will be here for many years to come. Now that the kids have bought into his system over the past two seasons, you are seeing the results.

Don't think it's his coaching as much as the talent Athens has

Don't get me wrong, I do not mean to take anything away from the players. But to be fair, you have to give him a credit for developing it. He just has them playing a style of basketball that you normally don't see at the high school level.

Go Bulldogs!

Sorry to offend with my previous (deleted) post. Just trying to say that I do believe they look back on it after a couple of days and wish it would have been handled differently. Just my opinion.

With the mess, the current AHS AD has made with girls sports, I doubt any girls sports will continue to grow. Why would any top female athletes play for a school that dissent value girls sports? Athens borders at least six other school districts that would welcome them with open arms.

To bad the under hit. The line was 108.5, which is why athens kept trying to score!

Thats not true...you dont see that style in the Ohio Division...You need to watch Hocking games if you dont normally see it because its everywhere in that league.

Haven't seen any Hocking games Trampoline, so I can't say. It just seems like in watching the Bulldog games this year, he is playing chess and the opponents' coaches are playing checkers. No teams have come close to having any answers this year and most of last year.

Things will get tougher as they move deeper in the tournament in March, no doubt.

Don't want to disparage those coaches but I will say this. They are coaching what they have. By that I mean Athens beat a very banged up Warren team, two .500 teams (2-2 and 3-3) and three lower half of the Ohio division schools. They do get Alex tomorrow and they will play Waterford and Fed Hock from the Hocking and Marietta. Other than that the schedule isn't overly difficult which I can understand as they are trying to build the program back up. But lets not start screaming from the rooftops after a decent start. And it seems they have forgotten where they were a few years ago by putting 100 up against a team that is struggling. Again, I have to think there is something more there but it is what it is at this point.

It may be a different style of basketball than what Athens is accustomed to, but this Athens team doesn't win the TVC hocking championship this season or probably any season in the last 20 years. I think Waterford beats them by 15+ next week and Fed Hock (currently 3rd in the TVC Hocking) beats them when they play as well. Athens vs Marietta=Blowout city! They are a decent team with some good 3 pt shooters, but I dont think the 2-2-1 press (That Minford killed in the 2nd half) scares too many good teams. This group will def win some games but I don't see a long tourney run, ESP being one of the smaller D3 teams.
I think D3 is one of the biggest beneficiaes of the expanded divisions and there are some good programs in D3 ready to breakout. The old system had these same teams playing schools with an enrollment of 1200+ girls. Now if we could figure out how to get the State semi-finals and Finals in the same location on the same weekend.....

As far as beating a team by 90+, its just a bad look, from the coaching staff down to the players. They should feel embarrassed they did that to another group of girls.

I'm going to have to disagree. I don't see this Athens team losing a game in the regular season. But that's why they play the game, and we will find out soon enough!!

As far as being embarrassed about beating an opponent decisively, I trust that Bulldog's Coach K has a plan for everything and he warned everyone that there would be haters, but he is keeping his team's eye on the ultimate prize. He is a well-respected developer of a program from the bottom to the top and has numerous coaching awards to his credit to prove it and I look forward to watching all of the games as the season unfolds. It's going to be a fun ride!!

Going with the Spider on this one. Athens doesn't beat Waterford (assuming everything is okay there) and Federal Hocking will be in a better position when we play them. I think the Lancers take that one. But they better keep an eye on the Ohio first because the Alexander game tonight could be interesting. Is Athens the favorite? Yes. But you never know.
