Top Coaches for Top Job
I’m getting a lot of messages about how Marietta can be the top job in the area and a lot of suggestions for who we should hire. So I thought I’d open it up for discussion. If you think you know a coach we should be considering post it on here. Provide your top 5 if you would like. We will consider it.

Re: Top Coaches for Top Job
Mole master, this should be your short list. Sorry if its a little long but I know several good coaches who are proven winners. In no particular order, here ya go:
1. Jack James - better hurry before he gets snapped up by GA
2. Jimmy Bell - still a free agent. A diamond in the rough.
3. Dave Tennant - Never got a fair shake at Meigs. He knows, he was D1.
4. Kevin Welch - Wing T guru
5. Wings Teaford - Grandson of the Inventor fo the Wing T. Probably a better choice than Welch.
6. You. Why wouldnt you take the job?

The premier offensive guru of Athens County. And the county's best defensive coach for the last 20 years.

Anyone on the Warren staff should be top priority. Those coaches have built a dynasty in three years winning 15 games, making the playoffs, developing D1 talent, and sending kids to college. What else do you want?

Maybe beat Athens.TigerALUM99 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:16 pm Anyone on the Warren staff should be top priority. Those coaches have built a dynasty in three years winning 15 games, making the playoffs, developing D1 talent, and sending kids to college. What else do you want?

Won 15 games in 3 years, with 2 of those 15 wins coming against teams with a winning record, made playoffs once as a 16 seed. Oh yeah someone should be beating down that door.TigerALUM99 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:16 pm Anyone on the Warren staff should be top priority. How is the fact that Marietta has become a complete dumpster fire somehow turn into an indictment on Warren football??
Re: Top Coaches for Top Job
I was going to say, last time I checked, we have a superintendent, a great AD, and a head football coach who just won the league’s COY. Things at Warren aren’t perfect by any means, but I’d say it’s a *slightly* better situation than Marietta has going on. Having good people forced out is never a good thing.bigblue52 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 4:50 pm How is the fact that Marietta has become a complete dumpster fire somehow turn into an indictment on Warren football??

I’d be surprised if Waren plays Athens this year.Tom Smyth wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 3:45 pmMaybe beat Athens.TigerALUM99 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:16 pm Anyone on the Warren staff should be top priority. They owe us a game so they will be coming to Vincent. I hope Marietta strikes up the courage to play them tooTigerALUM99 wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 9:30 pmI’d be surprised if Waren plays Athens this year.Tom Smyth wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 3:45 pmMaybe beat Athens.TigerALUM99 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:16 pm Anyone on the Warren staff should be top priority. Depends on what coach they get. If Gandee is selected, they’ll keep Athens. He’s not afraid of them. I mean Marietta has the courage to play Williamstown every year and not teams from Kentucky who barely have a pulse.bigblue52 wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:22 pmThey owe us a game so they will be coming to Vincent. I assume you’ve talked to him personally since you’ve put his name in the running?TigerALUM99 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:59 amDepends on what coach they get. I’d put his name in the running based on reputation and experience. No need to talk to him personally. Respect is earned not given.beg003 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 8:41 amI assume you’ve talked to him personally since you’ve put his name in the running?TigerALUM99 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:59 amDepends on what coach they get. Re: Top Coaches for Top Job
My big sticking point is this: if he didn’t have any interest whatsoever in the Belpre job (his alma mater), why would he be interested in the Marietta job? No connections to the district, plus their current cluster of a situation would be a nightmare for any head coach, experienced or inexperienced, to step into. They will likely have to look outside the area for their next HC imo.TigerALUM99 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 11:52 amI’d put his name in the running based on reputation and experience. Some people are good with being assistants. No dealing with parents, no admin headaches, just coaching. Just my take on it.

True. Just figured he’d be ready for the show. This day and age it’s not worth being the head guy like maybe 20 years ago.beg003 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 12:15 pmMy big sticking point is this: if he didn’t have any interest whatsoever in the Belpre job (his alma mater), why would he be interested in the Marietta job?
