Athens coach should be ashamed of himself! No team deserves to lose like that and no team needs to win like that.
I do not care who was in. You run the clock. There’s no shot clock. If you win that big then you can control the ball for the game... Things like this have an impact far beyond the scoreboard.... Rumor has it, the coach promised them Starbucks if they scored 100... Shameful!

I would have to think that is rumor and nothing more. It would be hard to believe that a coach went into a game with the intent to score 100 and, in effect, humiliate teenage girls on the other team. I think if that were the case you would see some action from the Athens administration. Again, my guess is things got out of control and they got caught up in the moment and probably the coach, the players and the parents all regret it and are embarrassed by it. Maybe we shouldn't be reading more into it than what might actually be true. JMO

If I am wrong about the Athens situation, then I will gladly eat crow. And if you are saying that you are certain there is nothing to the other situation, then I will be dead as far as I am concerned. Spiderjon has not said that, and I trust him since he is close to the program. Maybe you are too. I would just like to see three or more SEO teams get to state with the new 7 divisions. I think DV is a lock and I thought DVII was a lock. I am obviously rooting for Federal Hocking in DVI and very much rooting for Unioto in DIII. Don’t want to hijack this thread but I will avoid your teams as much as possible moving forward as I assume you may have someone involved in the situation. Sorry to offend.

I’ve seen both Meigs and Athens boys teams. I’m pretty sure Meigs could return the favor when the boys play. I hope they don’t. Coaches sometimes lose track of why they are in the leadership positions they are.

The program's accomplishments at Athens are undeniable with the success of the girls track and cross country, girls basketball team and some TVC titles. He deserves credit for his guidance and has the full support of our superintendent. He has a really difficult job with impossibly long hours and I hope we can keep him from being lured away for bigger opportunities.

Guess he forgot about AD costing girls VB 10 games, not showing up at girls CC state championship when Athens won its first girls title, or maybe the report of repeatedly ignoring complaints of racist and homophobic attacks on members of both the boys and girls soccer teams.
Not arranging for a bus to take the 2023 AHS softball team to their district game and only approving a release time that gave the team only 45 minutes to get to The game, or the lack of oversight of venue upgrades, including a new fence for the softball field that left a lighting pole exposed in the outfield; arranging for the new tennis courts to be painted on the AHS girls team’s Senior Night, forcing the team to walk up to the old courts to play their match after having the ceremony next to the new courts. Sounds like an AD I would want for my granddaughter.

How does the AD get any credit for the cross country teams success? I sat at the district banquet and the Athens XC coach went on for a long time about his great assistant coaches, was the AD an assistant? Post above said AD wasn’t even at state meet???? Athens was a favorite, how can the Ad not be there?

Don't get me wrong, I do not mean to take anything away from the players. But to be fair, you have to give him a credit for developing it. He just has them playing a style of basketball that you normally don't see at the high school level.

It may be a different style of basketball than what Athens is accustomed to, but this Athens team doesn't win the TVC hocking championship this season or probably any season in the last 20 years. I think Waterford beats them by 15+ next week and Fed Hock (currently 3rd in the TVC Hocking) beats them when they play as well. Athens vs Marietta=Blowout city! They are a decent team with some good 3 pt shooters, but I dont think the 2-2-1 press (That Minford killed in the 2nd half) scares too many good teams. This group will def win some games but I don't see a long tourney run, ESP being one of the smaller D3 teams.
I think D3 is one of the biggest beneficiaes of the expanded divisions and there are some good programs in D3 ready to breakout. The old system had these same teams playing schools with an enrollment of 1200+ girls. Now if we could figure out how to get the State semi-finals and Finals in the same location on the same weekend.....

As far as beating a team by 90+, its just a bad look, from the coaching staff down to the players. They should feel embarrassed they did that to another group of girls.

I'm going to have to disagree. I don't see this Athens team losing a game in the regular season. But that's why they play the game, and we will find out soon enough!!

As far as being embarrassed about beating an opponent decisively, I trust that Bulldog's Coach K has a plan for everything and he warned everyone that there would be haters, but he is keeping his team's eye on the ultimate prize. He is a well-respected developer of a program from the bottom to the top and has numerous coaching awards to his credit to prove it and I look forward to watching all of the games as the season unfolds. It's going to be a fun ride!!

Didn't look like coach "had a plan for" Waterford tonight. Athens wasn't ready for that type of defense or quickness on offense. Waterford beat them up and down the floor and the Bulldogs were gassed by the middle of the 2nd quarter. The 2-2-1 lasted less than a quarter. The waterford JVs picked up the win also 39-15.

I come on this site and only say positive things, and to see that someone jokes about me having a mental illness or suffering from a disease that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

I choose not to get into specifics in a high school sports forum, but suffice it to say that you have no idea about the human being on the other side of these anonymous usernames and the real life struggles they may be going through.

Coach K was a successful AAU coach before the Bulldogs were able to hire him. His awards are TVC Coach of the Year and WOUB Hardwood Heroes Coach of the Year, which covers this whole area of the state.
