They were on ESPN when they played CAPE back in the 80's or was it the early 90's? Hmmm
So, to the original post, kids want to go to Ironto because they were on National TV 35 years ago! Got it!

You asked a question and I gave you an answer. Ironton has a proud tradition of football. The very stadium that they play in was constructed for the professional team, the Ironton Tanks. They play on the field that is named after who was the winningest coach at the time of his retirement, Lutz Field named after Bob Lutz .

For five decades now Ironton continues to distinguish themselves in the prep program. Mediocrity will not be accepted in Ironton and that is displayed in the way that they went out and acquired a coach who would be so devoted to the program as Pendleton is. No small amount of boys will undoubtably earn scholarships the next decade.

When coach Pendleton arrived in Ironton he demanded the best out of the boys and they responded in like. Just his second year at the helm and now Ironton has been to Canton to play in the state championship game. What young man wouldn't want to be part of of such a program who is serious about their football career?

Finally, maybe the question you should have ask instead of the one you did, is why more boys haven't came into the program yet? Maybe it's just because they like to get an early start on their basketball?
Kids will be motivated one of two ways. They will either want to be a part of it or a part of defeating it. Either way, presently the lights in this particular area are the brightest in Ironton. Kids are gonna be motivated by it.

Congrats on a state title Tigers! Might as well make room for it! Also, the reminiscing of the Lutz days can finally be done too.
You were saying? You wouldn’t have beaten MSML in D6 either. Hope the room you made for the trophy was for silver. D6 with us and MSML was tougher than all of D5. Learn about football

I can respect that. Hopefully we get a rematch again this year. I know it’s the game most everyone wants to see. Good luck to your Tigers in the playoffs and stay healthy

Funny, I had to read what I wrote five years ago a couple times before I remembered writing it. Five years later and it just keeps rolling. A lot of scholarships have been handed out too

Very strange you'd go searching for a topic 5 years old, especially one where Ironton gets rail railroaded with a running clock in the state championship game. Kirtland barely had the guys to be DV but dominated it in their short time up there, amazing how they just kept it rolling

Absolutely it will and why not. The coach exposes the kids and they get d1 coaches at the school to visit. They have bought into the program. They do a lot more then just show up to practice. I read Carrico’s post about how hard it is and people don’t see the work involved. I’m not a ironton person but other schools need to look at what’s going on and learn to set up socials for the kids and get exposure. The transfer excuse has ran its course and it’s to the point now kids know and want to go there. I’m from Portsmouth and I’ll take everyone of those kids and gladly take a state title.

Well, I'm sure it would be if I done that, I don't know why the topic popped back up again but recently, there is was (Maybe Mattash put it up?) Anyways, out of curiosity I read a few pages of the thread and seen my post. So, to answer your declaration, I didn't go searching for the post

I feel confident that Kirkland probably recruits in one way or the other.

Given that Kirtland is rocking all of a 3 for CB numbers you would be VERY incorrect, compare that to 23 this year for Ironton. Nice try though to feel confident but when you can actually look up the numbers to discredit that feeling pretty easy to see not the case.

Besides a low CB, Kirtland housing is not cheap relative to the areas around them. Families aren’t going to sell their homes to move to a higher priced area just to play D6 football. Especially given that Kirtland doesn’t produce D1 players.

Also, if your kid is truly a stud, going to one of the many D1/D2 programs in the area would make way more sense. Kirtland is a nobody to St Ed, St Ignatius, Mentor, etc.

Kirtland and the MAC schools do not recruit if for no other reason than it would do them no good. MAC schools don’t have anywhere to pull talent, and the players worth recruiting in the Cleveland area are not going to Kirtland.
