Bridgeport and Fairmont senior have mostly standard set schedules every year and dont have to deviate much or travel much. They wont be interested. Also thats a 3 and a half hour trip. Bridegeport & Senior fans hardly even like the trip to Charleston. If Ironton is gonna schedule wv teams its gonna be an MSAC team or an Eastern Panhandle team like Martinsburg or Spring Mills or Hampshire etc etc. The Panhandle teams travel.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:58 pmfielddaddy wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 7:21 am Problem is a lot of those big WV teams like Huntington looks at Ironton as a lose lose situation.
Huntingtons coach already said that and Im sure many others have the same attitude.
Racelsnd would have been a great matchup being so close but from what I heard Raceland is thinking Ironton maybe too much for them.
Playing schools that is Ironton’s size will be hard to find.
Maybe Portsmouth and Fairland and Jackson will be willing to stay on Ironton’s schedule for future games as for Wheelersburg if Ironton puts another running clock on them in a beatdown I see them dropping Ironton.
I see Ironton having to travel and playing larger teams and the Ironton faithful is supporting of this overall.
A few don’t like it but that is the cost of winning championships.
Ironton knew what was going to happen when they left the OVC area teams don’t want to play Ironton due to the fact they can’t compete on the same level.
The road will be long and hard but the results will lead to another championship for Ironton.
Also with WV going to 4 classes the incentive so schedule a team like Ironton who would be class A is not going to help them as far as playoff seeding. However in AAAA all teams make it so there is that. As another poster states Bridgeport or Fairmont Senior aren’t bad options either for picking up teams from WV. Ironton will more than likely need some Cincinnati schools or Columbus area to beef up the schedule

Those are even longer hauls so I doubt any of those schools would be willing to travel to Ironton. Plus I think they would walk all over Hedgesville, Spring Mills and Martinsburg would be punching above their weight class but would be good games.798924 wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 10:19 amBridgeport and Fairmont senior have mostly standard set schedules every year and dont have to deviate much or travel much. Linsly is considered a D7 school in Ohio and just came off an 0-10 season. Probably not the best opponent for the upcoming season. However, Wheeling Central or Wheeling Park would be intriguing.798924 wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 3:28 pmLinsly Academy Football in Wheeling. Was just about to say that Wheeling Central as AA and Park as AAAA would warrant some good points Ohio recognizes both as Park as D II and Central as D VII howeveeJason Vorhees wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 6:32 pmLinsly is considered a D7 school in Ohio and just came off an 0-10 season. I’d see no reasoning they wouldn’t. Both Parkersburg and South are guaranteed to make the playoffs. Would be big points game for Ironton as they’d be D I/ D II like Cabell-Midland was.

It's time for Ashland's coach and AD to quit whining and put on their big boy pants and get the Tigers back on schedule.
It's a travesty that these 2 long time rivals no longer play each other.
Quit hiding and crying and get Ironton on schedule

Any of the WV schools in the MSAC would offer Ironton a playoff point harvest, but I believe they play nine conference games making scheduling problematic. Competition wise, other WV schools like Bridgeport, Fairmont, Morgantown and Park would be good.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 3:45 pm798924 wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 10:44 amMaybe Pburg or Pburg south as well?Jeaux Burreaux wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2024 10:06 pm

Ironton might need to look more at Kentucky. Belfry, Johnson Central and even Boyle County near Lexington or Boone County near Cincy. Points and competition.
With glory comes the complication of scheduling.

I would love to see Steubenville but their philosophy is we are above everyone else and if you want to play is you travel we don't. The usually have 7 home games at least.

Of course St Ed was way down and Boyle had one of their best teams ever. Still programs like Boyle need to be on Ironton's schedule to be battle tested for the playoffs. Again the price of glory for Ironton comes with unique challenges in scheduling .
